December 2009

Dear Friends,
One of the trends on Facebook during the month of November has been for people to use
the “status update” feature to share with their friends something for which they are thankful every
day. It’s been kind of neat for me to see people I know from many different areas of my life, for
example from church, grade school, high school, college, seminary, colleagues, relatives, etc., each
reflect daily on something that is meaningful enough for them to offer their thanks.
Perhaps some of the things for which they offer thanks are also on your list. Here are a list
of some of my favorites:
• For the red velvet doughnut I am going to consume before going to the job I love!
• For good books; so many hours of my life filled with pure joy!
• For the smell of freshly ground coffee. I wish I enjoyed drinking it more!
.03
• For mild November days and the sunshine!
• For the crunch of the leaves under my feet AFTER I’ve finished raking!
• For taking our daughter home from the hospital sooner than expected!
• For my lovely husband! (From her) And I’m thankful for you lovely wife! (from him) Don’t
forget me (from their daughter) Of course for C, especially when she cleans her room (from
her) And puts away her clothes (from him)! We love you always C! (from her)
• For the fact that I’m getting “inked” tonight – I’ve always wanted a tattoo!
• For our small community even during this time of loss of one of our own (referring to Amy
Krueger); I’ve never been prouder to live here!
• For love, because it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!
• For you God, for all the gifts you give me every day!
Soon many of us will be gathering around our tables to give thanks kicking off the .05
Christmas season of gratitude for the greatest gift born to us in Christ! Maybe it would be
neat for us during this time to give a “status update of thanks” to someone in our lives every
day of at least one gift God in which has enriched our lives!
In Thanksgiving always for the many ways you bless me, PV

SCRIP for the Season

Please consider giving gifts of SCRIP for Christmas this year! Many companies give a higher per cent
during Christmas time and this would benefit Gloria Dei.Again, remember scrip does not cost you
extra, but retailers will give a per cent to the church. Gloria Dei could use your help with the free
bonus. It is easy to give gifts of scrip from church, especially for those on your Christmas list for whom
it may be hard to shop.

Check out the scrip web site to find retailers who accept scrip (www.glscrip.com and then click on
retailers). We have many companies who do accept scrip and Great Lake Scrip keeps us up-to-date on
per cent the companies give. On the scrip web site find retailers that you would like to buy scrip cards
from and then buy these from the scrip table at church on Wed. before service or on Sunday after
service. All help is appreciated! Thanks! Michael Field
