Quotes from Cersei Lannister from "Game of Thrones"

"Game of Thrones: Lord Snow (#1.3)" (2011)

Cersei Lannister: Someday, you'll sit on the throne, and the truth will be what
you make it.
Cersei Lannister: Everyone who isn't us is an enemy.
Cersei Lannister: A good king knows when to save his strength and when to destro
y his enemies.
Cersei Lannister: When Aerys Targaryen sat on the Iron Throne, your father was a
rebel and a traitor. Someday, you'll sit on the throne, and the truth will be w
hat you make it.
Joffrey Baratheon: [about Sansa] ... Do I have to marry her?
Cersei Lannister: Yes, she's very beautiful, and young... and if you don't like
her, you only need to see her on formal occasions, and when the time comes, to m
ake little princes and princesses... and if you'd rather fuck painted whores, yo
u'll fuck painted whores. And if you'd rather lie with noble virgins, so be it.
You are my darling boy, and the world will be exactly as you want it to be.
Jaime Lannister: I think we can outfox a ten year old.
Cersei Lannister: And my husband?
Jaime Lannister: I'll go to war with him if I have to... they can write a ballad
about us, "The War for Cersei's Cunt!"
[Cersei slaps Jaime. He chuckles, and she tries to slap him again, but he grabs
her arm and holds her from behind, firmly but gently]
Cersei Lannister: Let me go...
Jaime Lannister: Never.
Cersei Lannister: Let me go...
Jaime Lannister: [whispers reassuringly in Cersei's ear] The boy won't talk. And
if he does, I'll kill him, Ned Stark, the king, the whole bloody lot of them un
til you and I are the only people left in this world.
[Cersei and Jaime quietly sink into a loving embrace]
"Game of Thrones: Valar Dohaeris (#3.1)" (2013)
Tyrion Lannister: What are they doing here?
Cersei Lannister: Protecting me... I assume. Will you let me in?
Tyrion Lannister: No, I don't think so.
Cersei Lannister: If I wanted to kill to you, do you think I'd let a wooden door
stop me?
Tyrion Lannister: they stay outside!
Cersei Lannister: I'm not afraid of you, little brother.
Cersei Lannister: [referring to Tyrion's new quarters] A bit of a comedown from
chamber of the Hand. But then I don't suppose you need much room.
Tyrion Lannister: Grand Maester Pycelle made the same joke. You must be proud to
be as funny as a man whose balls brush his knees.
Cersei Lannister: You're a clever man. But you're not half as clever as you thin
k you are.
Tyrion Lannister: Still makes me more clever than you.
"Game of Thrones: Mockingbird (#4.7)" (2014)
[Gregor "the Mountain" Clegane kills prisoners very brutally and mercilessly whi
le Cersei watches. She approaches]
Cersei Lannister: Ser Gregor, Welcome to the capital. Thank you for riding here
so quickly.
[Cersei glances at the dead bodies]
Cersei Lannister: You seem to be in good form.
Gregor Clegane: Who am I fighting?
Cersei Lannister: Does it matter?
[Gregor shakes his head]
Cersei Lannister: Sir Gregor. Welcome to the capital. Thank you for riding here
so quickly. You seem to be in good form.
Gregor Clegane: Who am I fighting?
Cersei Lannister: Does it matter?
[Clegane gestures "no"]
"Game of Thrones: The Wolf and the Lion (#1.5)" (2011)
[Robert sits alone, drinking. Cersei enters]
Cersei Lannister: [teasing] I'm sorry your marriage to Ned Stark didn't work out
. You seemed so good together.
Robert Baratheon: [dryly] I'm glad I could do something to make you happy.
Cersei Lannister: Without a Hand, everything will fall to pieces.
Robert Baratheon: I suppose this is where you tell me to give the job to your br
other Jaime.
Cersei Lannister: He's not serious enough. I'll say this for Ned Stark: he's ser
ious enough. Was it really worth it? Losing him this way?
[Robert places the cup on the table and stands]
Robert Baratheon: I don't know. But I do know this: If the Targaryen girl convin
ces her horselord husband to invade and the Dothraki horde crosses the Narrow Se
a... we won't be able to stop them.
Cersei Lannister: The Dothraki don't sail. Every child knows that. They don't ha
ve discipline, they don't have armor, they don't have siege weapons.
Robert Baratheon: It's a neat little trick you do: you move your lips, and your
father's voice comes out.
Cersei Lannister: Is my father wrong?
Robert Baratheon: Let's say Viserys Targaryen lands with 40,000 Dothraki screame
rs at his back. We hole up in our castles. A wise move. Only a fool would meet t
he Dothraki in an open field. They leave us in our castles. They go from town to
town, looting and burning, killing every man who can't hide behind a stone wall
, stealing all our crops and livestock, enslaving all our women and children. Ho
w long do the people of the Seven Kingdoms stand behind their absentee king, the
ir cowardly king hiding behind high walls? When do the people decide that Visery
s Targaryen is the rightful monarch after all?
Cersei Lannister: [pours herself wine and sits] We still outnumber them.
Robert Baratheon: Which is the bigger number, five or one?
Cersei Lannister: Five.
Robert Baratheon: [holds up his left fingers] Five...
Robert Baratheon: [clutches his right fist] ... one. One army, a real army, unit
ed behind one leader with one purpose. Our purpose died with the Mad King.
[Robert pours himself wine]
Robert Baratheon: Now we've got as many armies as there are men with gold in the
ir purse, and everybody wants something different: your father wants to own the
world. Ned Stark wants to run away and bury his head in the snow.
Cersei Lannister: What do you want?
Robert Baratheon: [drinks and sits] We haven't had a real fight in nine years. B
ack-stabbing doesn't prepare you for a fight. And that's all the realm is now: b
ack-stabbing and scheming and arse-licking and money-rubbing. Sometimes I don't
know what holds it together.
Cersei Lannister: Our marriage.
[Robert stares at Cersei, then bursts out laughing. Cersei joins his laughter]
Robert Baratheon: So here we sit, seventeen years later, holding it all together
. Don't you get tired?
Cersei Lannister: Every day.
Robert Baratheon: How long can hate hold a thing together?
Cersei Lannister: Seventeen years is quite a long time.
Robert Baratheon: Yes, it is.
Cersei Lannister: Yes, it is.
[they drink from their cups]
Cersei Lannister: What was she like?
Robert Baratheon: [slightly puzzled] You've never asked about her, not once. Why
now?
Cersei Lannister: At first, just saying her name even in private felt like I was
breathing life back into her. I thought if I didn't talk about her, she'd just
fade away for you. When I realized that wasn't going to happen, I refused to ask
out of spite. I didn't want to give you the satisfaction of thinking I cared en
ough to ask. And eventually it became clear that my spite didn't mean anything t
o you. As far as I could tell, you actually enjoyed it.
Robert Baratheon: So why now?
Cersei Lannister: What harm could Lyanna Stark's ghost do to either of us that w
e haven't done to each other a hundred times over?
Robert Baratheon: [leans forward] You want to know the horrible truth? I can't e
ven remember what she looked like. I only know she was the one thing I ever want
ed... someone took her away from me, and seven kingdoms couldn't fill the hole s
he left behind.
Cersei Lannister: I felt something for you once, you know?
Robert Baratheon: [lowers his gaze] I know.
Cersei Lannister: Even after we lost our first boy. For quite a while, actually.
Was it ever possible for us? Was there ever a time, ever a moment?
Robert Baratheon: [hesitates before answering] No.
[Cersei drinks from her cup]
Robert Baratheon: Does that make you feel better or worse?
Cersei Lannister: It doesn't make me feel anything.
[Cersei places her cup on the table, stands and leaves]
"Game of Thrones: Blackwater (#2.9)" (2012)
Cersei Lannister: Sansa? Come here, little dove.
Sansa Stark: My queen.
Cersei Lannister: What are you doing?
Sansa Stark: Praying.
Cersei Lannister: You're perfect, aren't you? Praying? What are you praying for?
Sansa Stark: For the gods to have mercy on us all.
Cersei Lannister: Oh? On all of us?
Sansa Stark: Yes, your Grace.
Cersei Lannister: Even me?
Sansa Stark: Of course, your grace.
Cersei Lannister: Even Joffrey?
Sansa Stark: Joffrey is my...
Cersei Lannister: Oh, shut up, you little fool. Praying for the gods to have mer
cy on us all? The gods have no mercy, that's why they are gods. My father told m
e that when he caught me praying. My mother had just died, you see. I didn't rea
lly understand the concept of death. The finality of it. I thought if I prayed v
ery very hard, the gods would return her to me. I was four.
Sansa Stark: Your father doesn't believe in the gods?
Cersei Lannister: He believes in them, he just doesn't like them very much.
Cersei Lannister: Tears aren't a woman's only weapon. The best one's between you
r legs.
"Game of Thrones: The Lion and the Rose (#4.2)" (2014)
[at Joffrey's wedding, Pycelle is making a pass at a servant girl. Cersei approa
ches them]
Grand Maester Pycelle: No, no, no. Come to my chambers and I will examine you pe
rsonally.
Cersei Lannister: [interrupts] She'll do no such thing.
Grand Maester Pycelle: [to Cersei] Oh, Your Grace. This young lady sought my adv
ice on a rather, uh...
Cersei Lannister: [to the girl] Just see Qyburn, he's quite good.
[the girl leaves]
Grand Maester Pycelle: Qyburn? Deplorable man. Brought shame on the Citadel with
his repugnant experiments...
Cersei Lannister: More repugnant than your gnarled fingers on that girl's thighs
?
Grand Maester Pycelle: Your Grace, I am a man of learning...
Cersei Lannister: My little brother had you sent to the black cells when you ann
oyed him. What do you think I could do to you if you annoyed me?
Grand Maester Pycelle: I never meant to annoy anyone...
Cersei Lannister: But you ARE. You're annoying me right now. Every breath you dr
aw in my presence annoys me. So here's what I want you to do. I want you to leav
e my presence. Leave this wedding right now, go to the kitchens, and instruct th
em that all the leftovers from the feast will be brought to the kennels.
Grand Maester Pycelle: Your Grace, uh, Queen Margaery said they were to be...
Cersei Lannister: The QUEEN is telling you the leftovers will feed the dogs... o
r you will.
[Pycelle leaves; Cersei waits until he is gone, smiles, and walks away]
[Tywin and Cersei are strolling through the wedding feast]
Tywin Lannister: You're in rather a good mood.
Cersei Lannister: I suppose I am.
Tywin Lannister: I won't ask why.
Cersei Lannister: Small pleasures.
[Oberyn and Ellaria walk past]
Oberyn Martell: Your Grace! Lord Tywin!
Tywin Lannister: Prince Oberyn.
Oberyn Martell: I don't believe you have met Ellaria. This is the Lord Hand, Tyw
in Lannister, and Cersei Lannister, the Queen Regent. I suppose it is "former Qu
een Regent" now. Lord Hand, Lady Cersei... Ellaria Sand.
Ellaria Sand: My lord. My lady.
Tywin Lannister: Charmed.
Cersei Lannister: Can't say I've ever met a Sand before.
[awkward silence]
Ellaria Sand: We are everywhere in Dorne. I have ten thousand brothers and siste
rs.
Oberyn Martell: Bastards are born of passion, aren't they? We don't despise them
in Dorne.
Cersei Lannister: No? How tolerant of you.
Oberyn Martell: I expect it is a relief, Lady Cersei, giving up your regal respo
nsibilities. Wearing the crown for so many years must have left your neck a bit
crooked.
Cersei Lannister: I suppose you'll never know, Prince Oberyn. It's a shame your
older brother couldn't attend the wedding.
Tywin Lannister: Please give him my regards. With any luck, the gout will abate
with time and he'll be able to walk again.
Oberyn Martell: They call it a rich man's disease. A wonder you don't have it.
Tywin Lannister: Noblemen in my part of the country don't enjoy the same lifesty
le as our counterparts in Dorne.
Oberyn Martell: People everywhere have their differences. In some places, the hi
ghborn frown upon those of low birth. In other places, the rape and murder of wo
men and children is considered distasteful. What a fortunate thing for you, form
er Queen Regent, that your daughter Myrcella has been sent to live in a latter s
ort of place.
"Game of Thrones: You Win or You Die (#1.7)" (2011)
Cersei Lannister: When you play the game of thrones you win or you die. There is
no middle ground.
Cersei Lannister: You should have taken the realm for yourself. Jaime told me ab
out the day King's Landing fell. He was sitting on the Iron Throne and you made
him give it up. All you needed to do was climb those steps yourself. Such a sad
mistake.
Eddard Stark: I've made many mistakes in my life, but that wasn't one of them.
Cersei Lannister: Oh but it was. When you play the game of thrones you win, or y
ou die. There is no middle ground.
"Game of Thrones: Second Sons (#3.8)" (2013)
Cersei Lannister: [to Margaery] If you ever call me sister again, I'll have you
strangled in your sleep.
Loras Tyrell: My father once told me...
Cersei Lannister: Nobody cares what your father once told you.
"Game of Thrones: Kissed by Fire (#3.5)" (2013)
Tywin Lannister: [Tyrion Lannister enters Tywin's meeting chambers. He sees his
sister Cersei and his father Tywin sitting at the table] You're late.
Tyrion Lannister: What is she doing here?
Tywin Lannister: Our business concerns her too. Sit.
Tyrion Lannister: [Tywin sits with a thick book in his hand] You'll be pleased t
o learn that after one conversation with Olenna Tyrell, I've saved the Crown hun
dreds of thousands on this wedding.
Tywin Lannister: Never mind that now. We have something important to discuss.
Tyrion Lannister: I'm Master of Coin. Saving money is important.
[Cersei smirks to the point of almost snickering. He looks at her with fuming an
noyance]
Tyrion Lannister: Stop that. You're making me uncomfortable.
Tywin Lannister: Your sister has learned that your new friends the Tyrells are p
lotting marry Sansa Stark to Ser Loras.
Tyrion Lannister: Very well. She's a lovely girl. Missing some of Loras' favorit
e bits, but I'm sure they'll make do.
Tywin Lannister: Your jokes are not appreciated.
Tyrion Lannister: It wasn't my best, but I thought...
Tywin Lannister: [interrupting Tyrion] I bring them into the royal fold and this
is how they repay me, by trying to steal the key to the North out from under me
.
Tyrion Lannister: Sansa is the key to the North? I seem to remember she has an o
lder brother.
Tywin Lannister: The Karstarks have marched home. The young wolf has lost half h
is army. His days are numbered. Theon Greyjoy murdered both his brothers. That m
akes Sansa Stark the heir to Winterfell. And I'm not about to hand her over to t
he Tyrells.
Tyrion Lannister: The Tyrell army is helping us to win this war. Do you really t
hink it's wise to refuse them?
Tywin Lannister: There's nothing to refuse. This is a plot. Plots are not public
knowledge. And the Tyrells won't carry this one out until after Joffrey's weddi
ng. We need to act first and kill this union in its crib.
Tyrion Lannister: And how do we do that?
Tywin Lannister: We find Sansa Stark a different husband.
Tyrion Lannister: Wonderful.
Cersei Lannister: Yes, it is.
Tyrion Lannister: [Tyrion looks at his sister beaming at him. His eyes widen and
immediately learns he's the one his father plans to marry Sansa Stark. He looks
back at his father, appalled] You can't mean it.
Tywin Lannister: I can and I do.
Tyrion Lannister: Joffrey has made this poor girl's life miserable since the day
he took her father's head. Now she's finally free of him and you want her to gi
ve her to me? That's cruel even for you.
Tywin Lannister: Do you intend on mistreating her? The girl's happiness is not m
y concern - nor should it be yours.
Tyrion Lannister: She's a child!
Cersei Lannister: She's flowered, I assure you. She and I have discussed it at l
ength.
Tywin Lannister: There, you see? You will wed her, bed her, and put a child in h
er. Surely you're capable of that.
Tyrion Lannister: And if I refuse?
Tywin Lannister: You wanted to be rewarded for your valor in battle. Sansa Stark
is a finer reward than you could ever dare hope for. And it is past time you we
re wed.
Tyrion Lannister: [angrily] I was wed. Or don't you remember you?
Tywin Lannister: [displeased with his son's tone] Only too well.
[Cersei smiles at her brother gloatingly]
Cersei Lannister: You should be thanking the gods for this. This is more than yo
u deserve.
Tywin Lannister: Tyrion will do as he's bid.
[Tywin turns to Cersei]
Tywin Lannister: As will you.
[Cersei's smile fades. She turns to her father, confused and uncertain of what h
e's talking about]
Cersei Lannister: What do you mean?
Tywin Lannister: You'll marry Ser Loras.
[Tyrion's eyes go from his father to his sister]
Cersei Lannister: I will not.
Tywin Lannister: The boy is heir to Highgarden. Tyrion will secure the North. Yo
u will secure the Reach.
Cersei Lannister: No, I won't do it.
Tywin Lannister: Yes, you will. You're still fertile. You need to marry and bree
d.
Cersei Lannister: [snaps with intense anger] I am Queen Regent, not some broodma
re.
Tywin Lannister: [shouts angrily and almost interrupting her] You're my daughter
! You will do as I command and you will marry Loras Tyrell and put an end to the
disgusting rumors about you once and for all.
Cersei Lannister: [pleading] Father, don't make me do it again, please.
[Tywin gets up, pounding the table with his fist]
Tywin Lannister: Not another word!
[Tywin looks at his children with complete disappointment]
Tywin Lannister: My children. You've disgraced the Lannister name for far too lo
ng.
"Game of Thrones: Mhysa (#3.10)" (2013)
Tyrion Lannister: You have children. How happy would you say you are?
Cersei Lannister: Not very. But if it weren't for my children, I would have thro
wn myself from the highest tower in the Red Keep. They're the reason I'm alive.
Tyrion Lannister: Even Joffrey?
Cersei Lannister: Even Joffrey.
Tyrion Lannister: How long does it go on?
Cersei Lannister: Until we've dealt with all our enemies.
Tyrion Lannister: Every time we deal with an enemy, we create two more.
Cersei Lannister: Then I suppose it will go on for quite a long time.
"Game of Thrones: A Man Without Honor (#2.7)" (2012)
Tyrion Lannister: It's just you, me, and Joffrey. The Lord of the Seven Kingdoms
and Protector of the Realm.
Cersei Lannister: I'm sure you'll make a point eventually.
Tyrion Lannister: He needs to start acting like a king. This war you started is
coming to our doorstep. And if the entire city wants Joffrey dead...
Cersei Lannister: I'm not the one giving the boy whores to abuse.
Tyrion Lannister: I thought the girls might help him.
Cersei Lannister: Did you?
Tyrion Lannister: I was wrong!
"Game of Thrones: The Night Lands (#2.2)" (2012)
Cersei Lannister: You want to be Hand of the King? You want to rule? This is wha
t ruling is; lying on a bed of weeds, ripping them out by the root, one by one,
before they strangle you in your sleep!
Tyrion Lannister: I'm no king, but I think there's more to ruling than that.
Cersei Lannister: I don't care what you think! You've never taken it seriously;
you haven't, Jaime hasn't! It's all fallen on me.
Tyrion Lannister: As has Jaime repeatedly, according to Stannis Baratheon.
Cersei Lannister: You're funny. You've always been funny, but none of your jokes
will match the first one, will they? Do you remember, back when you ripped my m
other open on your way out of her and she bled to death?
Tyrion Lannister: She was my mother too.
Cersei Lannister: Mother gone, for the sake of you. There's no bigger joke in th
e world than that.
"Game of Thrones: The Pointy End (#1.8)" (2011)
Grand Maester Pycelle: [reads the day's proclamations in court] Lastly, in these
times of treason and turmoil, it is the view of the council that the life and s
afety of King Joffrey be of paramount importance.
Cersei Lannister: Ser Barristan Selmy.
Barristan Selmy: [steps forward and kneels] Your Grace. I am yours to command.
Cersei Lannister: Rise, Ser Barristan. You may remove your helm.
[Selmy does so]
Cersei Lannister: You have served the realm long and faithfully. Every man and w
oman in the Seven Kingdoms owes you thanks. But it is time to put aside your arm
or and your sword. It is time to rest and look back with pride on your many year
s of service.
Barristan Selmy: Your Grace, the Kingsguard is a sworn brotherhood. Our vows are
taken for life. Only death relieves us of our sacred trust.
Cersei Lannister: Whose death, Ser Barristan? Yours or your king's?
Joffrey Baratheon: You let my father die. You're too old to protect anybody.
Barristan Selmy: Your Grace...
Cersei Lannister: The council has determined that Ser Jaime Lannister will take
your place as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.
Barristan Selmy: The man who profaned his blade with the blood of the king he ha
d sworn to defend!
Cersei Lannister: Careful, ser!
Lord Varys: We have nothing but gratitude for your long service, good ser. You s
hall be given a stout keep beside the sea, with servants to look after your ever
y need.
Barristan Selmy: A hall to die in, and men to bury me.
[Selmy angrily removes his armor and throws it on the ground]
Barristan Selmy: I am a knight! I shall die a knight!
Petyr Baelish: A naked knight, apparently.
[the court laughs, except Sansa who feels sorry for the veteran knight. The crow
d suddenly falls into silence as Ser Barristan draws his sword. The other Kingsg
uard knights draw their swords too]
Barristan Selmy: [to the other knights of the Kingsguard] Even now, I could cut
through the five of you like carving a cake!
[pause]
Barristan Selmy: Here, boy!
[Selmy defiantly throws the sword down at the foot of the Iron Throne]
Barristan Selmy: Melt it down and add it to the others!
[Selmy stalks out of the courtroom. No one dares to stop him]
"Game of Thrones: The Kingsroad (#1.2)" (2011)
[Catelyn watches Bran, still in coma. Cersei enters. Catelyn stands, embarrassed
for not being dressed properly]
Cersei Lannister: Please.
Catelyn Stark: I would have dressed, your Grace.
Cersei Lannister: This is your home. I'm your guest.
[Catelyn sits. Cersei approaches Bran's bed]
Cersei Lannister: Handsome one, isn't he? I lost my first boy.
[surprised, Catelyn stares at Cersei]
Cersei Lannister: A little black-haired beauty. He was a fighter too... tried to
beat the fever that took him. Forgive me. It's the last thing you need to hear
right now.
Catelyn Stark: [shakes her head] I never knew.
Cersei Lannister: It was years ago. Robert was crazed, beat his hands bloody on
the wall, all the things men do to show you how much they care. The boy looked j
ust like him. Such a little thing... a bird without feathers. They came to take
his body away and Robert held me. I screamed and I battled, but he held me.
[Cersei's eyes are filled with tears]
Cersei Lannister: That little bundle. They took him away and I never saw him aga
in. Never have visited the crypt, never.
[long moment of silence]
Cersei Lannister: I pray to the mother every morning and night that she return y
our child to you.
Catelyn Stark: [nods] I am grateful.
Cersei Lannister: Perhaps this time she'll listen.
[Cersei leaves. Catelyn caresses Bran's hair]
"Game of Thrones: What Is Dead May Never Die (#2.3)" (2012)
[Sansa is dining with Cersei, Myrcella and Tommen]
Tommen Baratheon: Is Joffrey going to kill Sansa's brother?
Cersei Lannister: He might. Would you like that?
Tommen Baratheon: No. I don't think so.
"Game of Thrones: The Climb (#3.6)" (2013)
[Tyrion and Cersei are watching Sansa talking to Ser Loras]
Tyrion Lannister: I don't suppose there is anything we can do about this?
Cersei Lannister: We can have them both killed.
Tyrion Lannister: It's hard to say which of the four of us is getting the worst
of the arrangement. Probably Sansa. Though Loras will certainly come to know a d
eep and singular misery.
Cersei Lannister: Father doesn't discriminate.
"Game of Thrones: A Golden Crown (#1.6)" (2011)
[Robert strikes Cersei across the face]
Cersei Lannister: I shall wear this as a badge of honor.
Robert Baratheon: Wear it in silence or I'll honor you again.
"Game of Thrones: Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things (#1.4)" (2011)
Eddard Stark: I was trained to kill my enemies, Your Grace.
Cersei Lannister: As was I.
