An Epistle from Ed
By Ed Cadwallader, Pastor

In a very moving scene, found in the first chapter of the Book of Acts, Jesus takes his disciples out to
the Mount of Olives following the resurrection, and, in their sight, ascends into the clouds.
Now the disciples are all craning their necks, watching Jesus go - wondering what exactly their next
move should be when these two figures in dazzling white garments show up just as we are told
that angels are around us all the time, only usually not in a form visible to us.
It seems to me, at a time like this, that the disciples should be allowed a little bit of a rubber-necking
privilege. After all, you dont see someone just rise up into the sky every day. The angels, however,
dont seem to have much patience with the disciples. Perhaps the work of Gods kingdom is just too
pressing. At any rate, they remind the disciples of their next move their ultimate task: Why are you
standing here look up into the sky? Hes going as he said he would. Now why dont you get to work
as he told you to do?
I guess we could say, like the angels, that its as simple as that: Jesus is risen! Alleluia! He has ascend-
ed! He went to make a place for us! Now get to work!
But somehow, we tend to look for balance. We come to worship to tap into the power and promise of
the resurrection, we are sent out into the world to be the hands and feet of Christ, and we are commis-
sioned to proclaim the good news that his love is for everyone always.
Its as simple as that. But whats keeping us from getting at it?
Maybe it isnt a case of getting started for figuring out each move, but just staying in the rhythm of
our own ministries. Maybe we just need to keep at it. Maybe its a process of being reminded, day af-
ter day, Sunday after Sunday, that the power of the resurrection is made available to us, that God is at
work creating and sustaining life at every moment. In the Spirit, as we talked about on Pentecost,
Gods breath of life blows through us, Gods own people, so that we can speak and reflect to the world
of Gods marvelous doings.
I marvel that God chooses to work through us? Its true. Look up, for a moment, and take time to
watch Jesus go to the Father. Then, expect him to blow into your life, and put you to work!
Think about it.
Summer Sundays
By Sue Bayer, Worship Committee

The Worship Committee is delighted to announce that the Reverend Ingrid Kalchthaler-
ordained minister, youth services librarian, and stand-up comedian, will return to the
pulpit at Bradford Woods church! Rev Ing is scheduled to deliver the message on the
mornings of June 29, July 6, and Aug. 31 while Pastor Ed is on vacation. If you missed
hearing Rev Ingrid last summer, make it a point to find a spot in the pew to hear the uplifting message
of this talented, engaging speaker!
Parking Lot Fund Raiser
By Jane Siefers, Hospitality Committee

Thanks to everyone who contributed to our special parking lot fund drive.
Those generous donations will more than cover the cost of the recent gravel
and grading project! We all should know that newly surfaced parking lots
are just like washed dishes, organized play rooms and painted siding they
look great when they are recently finished; but its only a matter of time
until you have to tend to them all over again. Parking lot funds left over
after paying our contractor will be reserved for future maintenance of the
parking lot.

Softball
By Bob Doak

We had a nice doubleheader this past Sunday. It only took 10 total innings to win both games by the 15
Run Rule after 5 innings (15-0 & 18-3 respectively). Next weeks opponent will be a little better than
St. Ferd. Orange. We play the First Place team Grace Community at 12:45 p.m. Sunday June 29 at War-
rendale. Their 10-1 Record vs. our 9-2 Record. It would sure be nice to pay them back for the loss they
gave us back in May. Take a look at our upcoming schedule:
July 6 - 11:30 Warrendale Field
July 13 - 2:00 Warrendale Field
Playoffs will be on July 19, 20, 26 and 27. We still need to take care of business. We can still win the regular season
title!
As soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near. ~ Luke 21:30
Please Come Lend A Hand

Note From The Treasurer
By Pam Hendrickson, Treasurer

As we start into the hazy, lazy days of summer, please don't forget your financial part to our "Church In
The Woods. The next couple of months tend to be less attended due to vacations and family events, but
we can receive your support via the good old USPS (PO Box 421, Bradford Woods, PA 15015), although
we would much rather see your smiling face. Have a fun summer!
Art Open House at the Church
By Norma Liebenguth

Local resident Eric White will hold an open house of his monoprint artwork at the church on Friday,
July 18 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 19 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Monoprints are made by drawing or painting on a smooth, non-absorbent surface. The image is then
transferred to a sheet of watercolor paper using a special tool called a barren. After the print is dry, the
process is repeated, usually with different variations of colors. Eric describes each one-of-a kind finished piece as a tap-
estry of sorts made of several layers of ink.
Eric says he strives to evoke something ethereal, magical and surreal. Through his work, he desires to transport the
viewer to another world or state of consciousness. He adds, I imbue my work with a feeling of shared sensibility with
all people, a sense of beauty and peace that takes you in, informs you of some deep, cosmic secret and brings you back to
earth with all senses intact.
Coffee Hour Lite
By Jane Siefers, Hospitality Committee

Everything is more casual in the summer including coffee hour. Because of the early worship service,
Hospitality will not be hosting any lunches after church in July or August. We are encouraging the summer hosts to
keep it light with just a simple snack and some beverages. Please consider signing up to host a coffee hour this sum-
mer, to give the committee (and the church ovens) a break. Thanks for your help!
