CHAPTER 21: PLANS AND ELEVATIONS

Paper 2

1. (a) The diagram shows a solid right prism. The surface HGRS is its uniform cross
section. The base PQRS is a rectangle on a horizontal plane. The rectangle EHSP
is an inclined plane and the square EFGH is a horizontal plane. The edges FQ and
GR are vertical.

Draw to full scale, the elevation of the solid on a vertical plane parallel to SR as
viewed from X.

(b) Another solid right prism is joined to the solid in (a) at the vertical plane SRGK to
form a combined solid as shown in the diagram below. The trapezium UVML is
its uniform cross section and SMVW is an inclined plane. The rectangle TUVW is
a horizontal plane. The base PSMLRQ is on a horizontal plane. The edge UL is
vertical.

Draw to full scale
(i) the elevation of the combined solid on a vertical plane parallel to PM as
viewed from Y.
(ii) the plan of the combined solid.

2. (a) The diagram shows a solid right prism. The surface CDEFGH is its uniform cross
section. The base ABCD is a horizontal rectangle. The rectangle BCHI is an
inclined plane and the rectangles EFKL and GHIJ are horizontal planes. The
edges ED and FG are vertical. FG =GH =3 cm.

Draw to full scale, the elevation of the solid on a vertical plane parallel to DC as
viewed from X.

(b) A half-cylinder is joined to the solid in (a) at the vertical plane AQPL to form a
combined solid as shown below. P and Q are the midpoints of LE and AD
respectively and ML =2 cm.

Draw to full scale,
(i) the elevation of the combined solid on a vertical plane parallel to AD as
viewed from Y.
(ii) the plan of the combined solid.
