between the North and the South. The
living standards in the South-East,
South, South-West, East Anglia and
the East Midlands are much better
than in the peripheral areas, aka the
North. There are mutual prejudices
between a complacent population in the
south and a proud but aggrieved one in
the north.

Traditionally ‘southerners’ (see map for details) have been seen as


flashy, ‘rich’, quick talking, semi skilled workers who like the theatre
and wine. Most southerners (especially Londoners or anyone south of
Luton) are seen as ‘Cockneys’.
