TEACHER/LEAD TEACHER

WORKING SCHEDULE
Will vary according to operations hours and needs of classroom and overall center.
Schedule may be changed as the needs of the program dictate. Minimum of 8 hours
per day

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Lead Teacher is responsible for all elements of their assigned classroom. These
include: creating lesson plans, maintaining licensing regulations for education, health
and safety, developing individual developmentally appropriate goals for each child and
incorporating them into the larger classroom/individual child plan. He/she is responsible
for maintaining the classroom environment with appropriate materials and toys. Lead
Teacher is responsible for supervising the assistants, substitutes, volunteers and interns
in their classroom including the training of their staff to act in their absence as the
classroom lead. Lead Teacher will participate on a team to identify the strengths, needs
and supports necessary for each of the children and/or their families in the classroom.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plan, implement, evaluate and supervise an educational program for pre-
schoolchildren, including but not limited to:
1. Weekly Lesson Plans that aligned with OSSEs Learning Standards,
Individual Child Goals, and Home-School Connection for Parents.
2. Weekly Individual Child Observations
3. Assess the children in the program based on the Learning Standards for
children entering twice a year using the Teaching Strategies Gold
Assessment tool.
4. Use the Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS) and the Early Language and
Literacy (ELLCO) to identify areas of strength and/or needs.

Utilize the Creative Curriculum Checklist to establish and maintain a classroom
environment that motivates nurtures and prepares the child for the next step in
educational process.
Coordinate general classroom housekeeping duties such as preparing meals and
general clean up.

Assess, evaluate and document individual childrens developmental progress
including strengths and weaknesses (initial assessment, monthly goal
measurement and data collection, IFSP, quarterly reports, etc)
Maintain an inclusive classroom environment where children with special needs
learn along side their typically developing peers.
Produce daily written reports for each child in the classroom.
Conduct Teacher/parent conferences at least 2x per year and as needed.
Conducts team meetings.
Work with Technical Assistance/Comprehensive Services Team to ensure an
effective program and integration of training into professional development plans.
Actively participate/in staff and parent meetings and in-service trainings
Assist with marketing the program to visitors at the center or in the community
Bring to the attention of management any suspicions of Child Abuse and Neglect
on the part of anyone associated with the center.
Maintain professional demeanor and dress at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned, to support the health and welfare of the children
and the families, the operation of the center and the continuing growth of the
program and organization.

QUALIFICATIONS
At minimum, hold an Associate Degree, preferably in Childhood Development, Early
Childhood Education or child and family studies and within 90 days enrolled in
Bachelors degree program on track to receive the degree within (2) years.
Minimum of two-year experience in childcare setting, involving face-to-face
interaction and problem solving with children and their families, preferably with
preschool aged children.
Demonstrated commitment to putting children and families first.
Excellent written and oral skills
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with participants, families and
community referral sources.
Self-motivated and detail-oriented
Ability to take initiative and problem solve.
Spanish speaking skills a plus.

Education/Experience
Bachelors Degree, preferably in Early Childhood Development and/or
Special Education.

Language Ability: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Spanish speaking
skills is a plus.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to plan, develop alternative strategies to resolve problems,
skills to support staff and families to make decisions regarding their childrens health
and safety.
