th
SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME A
I bless you Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things
from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children
(Matt 11: 25). The things of the divine life are secrets hidden to the clever
because Jesus is talking about the intelligence of those who are full of
themselves and dont have an! s"ace for #od. The! onl! allow what the!
have learnt and what the! think the! know to get in the wa!.
$e also could be these learned "eo"le. %s soon as we think we know
something& our attachment to it can block the greater truths that #od still
wants to reveal us. Toda!& Jesus invites us to become 'children(& because
onl! one who is a 'child( is rece"tive enough to have faith& to believe in a
m!ster! that "asses understanding& the m!ster! of the incarnation of #od.
The child is one who is at the beginning of a life& has o"ened e!es to
realit! and receives ever!thing as a gift. The child reacts with wonder and
sur"rise& while the adult sees onl! what has become familiar& and he sees the
other realities with a sus"icious sight.
Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened and I will give
you rest (Matt 11: 2)). To be a child& to be one of those to whom the *ather
is revealed& is to find rest. +n this morning& Jesus ,hrist tells to !ou: ',ome
to me(& awa! from !our self& awa! from !our worries and an-ieties& awa!
from !our sus"icions& awa! from the sins that make life itself unbearable.
.ou know ver! well !ou cant become a child b! !ourself& and !ou cant
delete !our sins with !our onl! strength. /ut Jesus the 0ord has not let !ou
alone. +n the evening of the 1aster 2unda!& 3e gave to the ,hurch the
sacrament of 4econciliation with 3im& the sacrament of ,onfession.
There& in the ,onfession& !ou will find the rest !ou need& and to find rest
is to find salvation& the everlasting life where there is no !esterda! neither
tomorrow. 5ont be concerned about tomorrow& but sim"l! with the 'one
thing necessar!(& with the 6resence that refreshes and gives "eace of heart.
Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light (Matt 11: 78). 2ince the
dawn of sin& we have all laboured for bread& but now ,hrist has "laced the
cross on his own shoulder& and it is #od who bears most of the weight& and
gives to us the 1ucharistic /read& the /read of eternal life.
0ord& call me to !ourself& awa! from m!self. *ree me from m! burdens
and an-ieties. 3el" me to find "eace at !our side.
