SYNOPSIS
CIVIL ENGINEERING PROJECT 1 enables students to apply and practice knowledge and
skills in civil engineering. This course will train the student in communication skills, group
work, work planning, decision making, recommendation and gain creativity using all the
facilities.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. acquire and apply the knowledge and information in civil engineering studies
according to procedures and standard
2. demonstrate technical skills in civil engineering practices in proposing creative and
innovative projects
3. identify project feasible for long life learning and career development
4. present effectively civil engineering project using multimedia tools.

Propose a suitable topic for the project from the following
categories: laboratories practice, produce civil engineering
product/design, academic research/study on product. Selection
of concepts/principles/methods suitable for project.

4.0 PREPARATION AND PRESENTATION OF THE PROJECT
PROPOSAL PAPER
Preparation method of project proposal, basic content/data for
each part of the project proposal. Conduct presentation of
proposal with complete information.

5.0 PRODUCING THE PRELIMINARY PROJECT REPORT
Produce the first project report by gathering all the related
information/data to complete the first project report. Produce the
printed project report and prepare a complete report consist of
Chapter 1, 2 and 3.

3.2.2 Conduct research on concepts/principles/methods related to the
topic of the project.
3.2.3 Analyse the result of the research above.
3.2.4 Organise selection of concepts/principles/methods that will be used
in the project correctly to achieve the stated objectives.
3.2.5 Estimate the project cost.
3.2.6 Derive a specific topic from the category chosen.
3.3 Know the suitable objectives
3.3.1 Identify the suitable objectives for the topic selected.
4.0 PREPARATION AND PRESENTATION OF THE PROJECT PROPOSAL PAPER
4.1 Know the exposure to the preparation method of project proposal
4.1.1 Provides understanding of the basic content/data for each part of
the project proposal which includes topic, objective, brief
description/general overview, operational sequences, block diagram
and others.
4.1.2 Conduct presentation of proposal.
4.2 Understand the needs to seek more information and details after the
project proposal is approved
4.2.1 List the tasks to be executed.
4.2.2 Identify the required components/concepts/methods.

5.0 PRODUCING THE PRELIMINARY PROJECT REPORT
5.1 Understand the research/study should be carried out to produce the first
project report
5.1.1 Gather all the related information /data to complete the first project
report consist of:
a. Chapter 1 (Introduction)
b. Chapter 2 (Literature Review)
c. Chapter 3 (Methodology).
5.1.2 Analyse the selected information/data collected.
5.1.3 Draw/sketch the schematic of the products that will be produced.
5.1.4 Create and prepare flowchart.
5.1.5 Prepare an early planning of the design.
5.1.6 Determine, prepare and choose the required tools.
5.1.7 Prepare a target schedule of the project.
5.1.8 Produce the Gantt chart.
5.2 Understand to produce the printed project report
5.2.1 Prepare a complete report consist of Chapter 1, 2 and 3.
5.2.2 Produce a complete project report according to the format given by
the school/department/program.

The course assessments through 100% Continuous Assessment

CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT (CA):
Continuous assessment is carried out throughout the semester and comprises of the followings:
a. Presentation (minimum 2) 20%
b. Log Book, Weekly Progress work 40%
c. Report (proposal, research introduction,
literature review and methodology) 40%
