Lesson Plan

Date: Tuesday November 11, 2008


Time: 1 (9:00-9:40)
Class: 3-7
Teachers: Matthew (Native Teacher – NT)
Gloria Teacher (Korean Teacher – KT)
Unit: It’s Snowing (Lesson 8-1)

Objectives: Familiarize the students, with actions and phrases to express if they
want to put something on. They also can express if something is too big
or small.
Materials: Textbook, CD-Rom, Computer with internet, Flash Cards

Introduction and Review (5-6 minutes)


Do a short introduction and review to prepare the class with the previous day materials
and teachers. This introduction will go as follows:
 NT & KT: “Good morning students”
Students (Ss) “Good morning Matthew Teacher…”
 KT: “How are you today?”
 Ss “I’m fine, thank you”
 NT: “How’s the weather today?”
 Ss “It’s ________________”
 NT: “Ok, very good!”

Lesson Preview – Action Cards (2-3 minutes)


Begin the lesson by doing different actions from the previous chapters and have
students say “I can ___________________”. We can continue this activity and maybe
have some students come to the front and perform those actions.

Look and Listen (10 minutes)


Next we do the look and listen and do the pre-listening exercises. The NT can ask some
questions about the screen.
After the students hear the dialog for the first time, we practice a little listen and repeat
with the dialog. Then the NT can ask some easy questions about the pre-listening
dialog.
PRE-LISTENING DIALOG
1) Julie It’s cold.
Julie’s mom Put on your gloves.
2) Julie’s mom Put on your gloves.
Julie Yes mom
3) Tony Too small
Then we tell the students to listen and watch the screen for the longer dialog.
DIALOG
Julie’s mom It’s cold. Put on your gloves.
Julie Yes, mom [tries to put on gloves] Too small!
Ask the students some simple questions about the dialog for comprehension.
 NT Is this Minsu?
 SS No.
 NT Is this Julie?
 SS Yes.
 NT Good. Where are they? Are they at school?
 SS No.
 NT Are they at supermarket?
 SS No.
 NT Are they at Niagara Falls?
 SS No.
 NT Are they at home?
 SS Yes. They are at Julie’s housel
We will watch and listen one more time and some more questions
 NT What does Julie’s mom say?
 SS Put on your gloves.
 .NT Good. What does Julie say?
 SS Yes mom.
Go through the dialog one more time.

Listen and Repeat (5-10 minutes)


Next, have the students listen carefully to the listen and repeat.
1) Julie It’s cold
Julie’s mom Put on your gloves.
2) Julie’s mom Put on your gloves.
Julie Yes mom.
3) Minsu Put on your sweater
Mina It’s too small.
Now, with the teacher’s help, the student’s practice the listen and repeat. After one time,
the student’s can be split up into groups (maybe boys and girls, or row-by-row). Then
after that, we can have two or three students role-play the dialog. The teacher can be
there to help them.

Powerpoint (10-15 minutes)


Next do a powerpoint exercise to review the lesson the students have learned. The
powerpoint has a little game in between that we can play. The students must follow the
teachers instructions. If the teacher says “Put on your gloves”, the students have to
follow that instruction. If the teacher says “Take off you jacket”, the students have to
follow that instruction.

Wrap-Up
Time to finish the class
 NT “Ok, children we are finished English Class today.”
 KT “Did you have fun today?”
 Ss “Yes!!!!”
 KT “Ok, goodbye students, say goodbye to Matthew Teacher”
 Ss “Goodbye, goodbye Matthew Teacher
 NT “Goodbye, see you next time.”
