COMMENTS If not getting the house packed up by a furniture removal company, begin clearing out room by room. Identify items to be sold, donated to charity or taken to the the tip. Clear out the garage first to use as a storage area. Contact your telephone network provider to arrange connection for your new home and new telephone number if required. Also transfer internet services if with the same provider. Contact your electricity provider to arrange the new connection Arrange paperwork from electrician to go to electricity providers for set up of solar power connected to the grid (if relevant). Arrange new doctor, dentist and vet in new area Contact your doctor, dentist and vet to arrange to collect medical records or transfer them If renting, formally notify landlord or intention to leave as required by your rental agreement. Provide a weeks buffer in case the builder runs over and to cover cleaning. Arrange for a cleaner to thoroughly clean the home before any final inspections to receive your bond back. If packing yourself, purchase packing boxes and tape Begin packing non-essential items that are rarely used, e.g. books, pictures, linen etc. Number each box and itemise what is in it on an inventory list and add what room it is to be put into in the new home (see separate tracking spreadsheet below). Suggest you sort the list by room to make it easier to check it off. Pack personal belongings required for moving day (and possibly day after) Arrange meals for moving day Get keys for new home from builder and carry out defects inspection COMMENTS Leave all manuals and spare keys for the landlord or new owner Take garage remote out of car and leave it on the bench or give to agent Do a final walk around once emptied and check every cupboard Do a walk around of the exterior to ensure nothing has been left behind Lock all doors and windows Show your removal company around the new home once you have arrived so they know which boxes and each item of furniture go in each room. Prioritise the setting up of furniture e.g. beds first Arrange to pick up young children and pets Once the removal company have completed the unload, quickly check off each room to ensure all boxes have arrived.
