Terminology

Click To use a mouse or key combination to pick an item that begins an
action. For example,
Click Apply to save the changes.
Select To mark an item by highlighting it with key combinations or by picking
it with your cursor. Selecting does not initiate an action. After
selecting an item, you click the action you want to affect the item. For
example,
Select the file original.dat from the list box, then click Delete to
remove it from the directory.
In addition, you would select items to define parameters, such as
selecting toggle buttons. This also applies to selecting graphic
elements from the design file. For example,
Select the line string to define the graphic template.
Tentative-select To place a tentative point on an existing graphic element in a design
file. If you are using the CLIX operating system, you tentative-select
by double-clicking with a mouse or pressing <T> on a hand-held
cursor. If you are using the Windows NT operating system, you
tentative-select by pressing a left-button, right-button chord.
Double-click To select and execute a command by clicking the mouse or hand-held
cursor button twice in rapid succession. This term implies that you are
clicking the data button (<D>) as part of a menu or dialog box action.
For example,
Double-click on the file original.dat to load it into the new surface.
Drag To press and hold the data button (<D>) while moving the mouse or
hand-held cursor.
Type To key a character string into a text box.
Key in To type in data and press ENTER to enter the data and execute the
default action.

In a dialog box, pressing TAB after keying in data will
enter the data and move the cursor to the next field.

Introduction
________________

1. Introduction

The DesignReview Integrator provides an intelligent link between PDS and Intergraph
Corporations DesignReview package. You can use DesignReview to walk through a PDS
model in full shaded mode and review the design and alphanumeric data.
PD_Review is used to create the necessary DesignReview control and label files. Label files
can be created from PEHVAC, Piping, Equipment, Structural, Raceway, and PLANTGEN
models.
Engineering data such as instrument numbers, equipment numbers, line numbers, and line
sizes are available when walking through the model. Comments are stored in a separate tag
file and can be accessed later during the review session. On subsequent walk throughs, the
original comment can be reviewed along with the responsible designers actions.
The DesignReview Administrator provides file management for label files that are input to
DesignReview and tag files that are returned to PDS. The software also allows you to create a
list of PDS models either by selecting design areas or by selecting individual files. Non-PDS
design files can be specified as well.
The DesignReview Tag Environment allows you to review and respond to comments for a
selected PDS model via a graphical interface. This command is similar to the DesignReview
command of the Piping Designer module.
1.1 PD_Review Setup
PDS uses the following organization to break the plant into smaller pieces that can be handled
more easily.
A project is a convenient grouping of either all or part of the items that constitute a plant. The
project is the fundamental structure for working in PDS. Each project contains all the
information required to work in a PDS task.
The Project Administrator controls the creation and modification of PDS 3D projects. Each
project consists of a project control database, project design database, piping and equipment
models, reference models (structural, HVAC, and electrical raceway), a set of drawings, and
a collection of reference data. The reference data may be specific to one project or shared by
more than one project.
A project and all of its accompanying files must be defined with the Project Administrator
before you can use any of the other PDS 3D modules. Refer to the Project Administrator
Reference Guide for more information on:
Loading PDS 3D products.

________________

Editing the control script to identify the location of the project data.
Setting up a project and creating the associated database schemas.
Accessing the PDS 3D products remotely using NFS.
1.1.1 Model Files

A set of model files for the project must be defined before you can use the DesignReview
Integrator. Refer to the following documents for information on creating and manipulating
PDS 3D Models:
Piping Design Graphics Reference Guide
PDS Equipment Modeling Users Guide
Frameworks Plus Reference Guide
PE HVAC Modeling Reference Guide

1.2 File Names
The automated naming conventions for the DesignReview control file and the DesignReview
label files are as follows:
The DesignReview control file name is formed from a user-specified prefix with the
extension .dri.
Each DesignReview label file name is formed as <model_number>.drv.

DesignReview Defaults Setup
________________

3. DesignReview Defaults Setup

This command activates the DesignReview Defaults Setup form, which is used to specify the
default location on the network to which PD_Review will ship the control and tag files when
they are created.
This form also allows you to specify a range of model status values to be processed by
PD_Review. This allows control over whether or not the system processes models defined as
temporary or preliminary.

The model status range definition of this option is independent of the model
status options used by the PDS Interference Manager module.

The status for each model is defined at model creation; it is maintained in the
Model Data Table (PDtable_113) through Project Environment Manager).

Field Descriptions

DesignReview Path This field contains the path to where the control (.dri) file will
be created. This is also where the label files will be shipped after their creation.
DesignReview Node This field contains the node name of the machine on which the
control (.dri) file will be created. This is also where the label files will be shipped after
their creation.
15
DesignReview Integrator April 2002
________________

Model Status Ranges for Preliminary Data Allows you to define a specific range
of model status values as preliminary; models that fall into this range will not be
processed.
Low Range This field contains the numeric value of the lowest model status number
which will be considered preliminary; models with this status value will not be
processed.
High Range This field contains the numeric value of the highest model status
number which will be considered preliminary; models with this status value will not be
processed.

The status range specification option does not apply to the Revise Project List
command used during creation or revision of DesignReview sessions because
the Revise Project List command allows user selection of models to be
processed.

The data defined by this option is maintained in the Project Control Data
Table (PDtable_103) of the Project Control Database.

________________

Control File Node Key in the node name where the control file will be located. The
path entered here will be echoed to the Tag File Node field.
Tag File Name When a Control File Prefix (above) is keyed in, the system echoes
that file name with the .tag extension to the Tag File Name field.

The tag file is created at a later time by the DesignReview system, and it
contains the tag data for the models included in the control file. For
more information about tag files, refer to
DesignReview Tag Environment.
Tag File Path After a Control File Path (above) is keyed in, the system echoes the
file path to the Tag File Path field. The tag file path represents the location of the tag
file.
Tag File Node After a Control File Node is keyed in, the system echoes the node to
the Tag File Node field. The tag file node represents the node where the tag file is
located.

If default settings were set previously using the DesignReview Defaults Setup
option, that information appears in the Control File Path, Control File Node,
Tag File Path and Tag File Node fields. Refer to DesignReview Defaults
Setup, page 15, for more information.
Options

Use Existing Session This option activates the secondary Label Builder Interface
form that allows you to select an existing session as the basis for a new session. When
you select an existing DesignReview session from this form, the current session will use
the same .lst file that the existing session does.

This option does not copy the .lst file that tells the software which
models to process; this file will be shared between each session that uses
it. This means that any modifications made to the geographic extents of
either session (via the Modify Label Extents command, for example)
will affect each session that shares the .lst file.

4.1.1 DesignReview Administrator Form

This form has four options that are primarily used in defining the scope of models to be
included in the tag file. Submission time can also be specified using this form. Select your
settings, and then select the Confirm button to accept the settings on the form. The system
then creates the DesignReview session using the specified information.

When the DesignReview session is created, no preliminary models are
processed unless they are specified by the Revise Project List option.

You cannot use more than one option to create a DesignReview session. Each
option is independent of the others.

The first three options (Project, Piping Design Area(s), and Design Area(s))
all write the .lst file in a format that is readable by RIS, while the Revise
Project List creates a file that can be edited for revision purposes by an
external text editor such as (vi, emacs, I/Edit, or Notepad).
Options

Project Selects all model files in the project for processing.
Piping Design Area(s) Creates a list of all the model files in selected piping area(s).
See Piping Design Area(s), page 25, for information on using this option.
Design Area(s) Allows you to select a PDS discipline and the areas which it
contains. The system uses the selected areas to generate a list of models. See Design
Area(s), page 26 , for information on using this option.

DesignReview Administrator Form
________________

Revise Project List Allows you to select models to be included in the model list.
See Revise Project List, page 27, for information on using this option.
Field Descriptions

Create Labels / Do Not Create Labels The setting of this toggle controls whether
or not the software creates the label file when the form is accepted. (The label file
contains the database information associated with all elements within a model.) This
file can be created immediately upon confirming this form, or it can be delayed until a
specific day and time (either with the Submit Immediately / Delayed Submit Time
toggle on this form, or with the various Label Builder options available from the main
DesignReview Administrator form). If this toggle is set to Create Labels, the next
two toggles are presented on the form.

In order to read and store the label files in a project database more
easily, DesignReview Integrator outputs entries in the label file using the
format name : value. VAX-based projects may require regeneration of
label data prior to display set creation.

There is a limit of 65 entries in the label file.
Do Not Ship to DesignReview / Ship Files to DesignReview This controls whether
DesignReview Integrator copies the resulting files to the node being used for the
DesignReview sessions. (This path is defined in the DesignReview Defaults Setup
form.)
Submit Immediately / Delayed Submit Time When delayed submission is
selected, you are prompted to specify the time to submit the request for processing.
Enter the day, hour, and minute; then select AM or PM. If immediate submission is
selected, the request is processed immediately when the form is accepted.
Add Weld Graphics / Do NOT Add Weld Graphics This toggle controls whether
graphical representations of welds appear in the DesignReview session. When weld
graphics are added, they are stored in the copy of the files sent to DesignReview; they
are not saved in the project files. Attributes of the weld, such as the weld number or the
weld type (as defined in Label 353), are included in a tag file.

Weld graphics are generated only where piping, instrumentation, and/or
components form a weld connection. Weld graphics are not generated to
represent welded ends that are not connected to other items.
23
DesignReview Integrator April 2002
________________

Dimensions of weld graphics are determined by the information in the
DRV_WELD_DEF table in the Piping Job Specification tables library.
If this table does not exist in that library or if no NPD range includes the
specified weld NPD, the dimensions of the weld graphic are determined
using the following two rules:
Diameter = 130% of the NPD at the weld
Thickness = 25% of the NPD at the weld

path entered here will be echoed to the Tag File Path field.
Control File Node Key in the node name where the control file will be located. The
path entered here will be echoed to the Tag File Node field.
Tag File Name When a Control File Prefix (above) is keyed in, the system echoes
that file name with a .tag extension to the Tag File Name field. The tag file contains
the tag data for the models included in the control file.

PDS uses the defined Tag File Path to look for the tag file. If this
location is the same as the Control File Path, the system can access the
file across the network. Otherwise, it may be necessary to copy the tag
file to the location of the control file.
Tag File Path After a Control File Path (above) is keyed in, the system echoes the
file path to the Tag File Path field. The tag file path represents the location of the tag
file.
Tag File Node After a Control File Node is keyed in, the system echoes the node to
the Tag File Node field. The tag file node represents the node where the tag file is
located.

Revise DesignReview Session
________________

Options

Use Existing Session This option activates the Label Builder Interface form.
When you select an existing DesignReview session from this form, the current session
will use the same .lst file that the existing session does.

This option does not copy the .lst file that tells the software which
models to process; this file is shared between each session that uses it.
This means that any modifications made to the geographic extents of
either session (via the Modify Label Extents command, for example)
that share a .lst file will affect any sessions that share the .lst.

When this form is accepted, you return to the Label Builder Interface form, which will
have inherited the data from the DesignReview session you just selected.
Once the appropriate information has been defined and the Label Builder Interface
form is accepted, the system displays the DesignReview Administrator form.
Create Labels / Do Not Create Labels This controls whether or not the software
creates the label file when the form is accepted. (The label file contains the database
information associated with all elements within a model.) This file can be created
immediately upon confirming this form, or it can be delayed until a specific day and
time (either with the Submit Immediately / Delayed Submit Time toggle on this
form, or with the various Label Builder options available from the main
DesignReview Administrator form). If this toggle is set to Create Labels, the next
two toggles are presented on the form.

In order to read and store the label files in a project database more
easily, DesignReview Integrator outputs entries in the label file using the
format name : value. VAX-based projects may require regeneration of
label data prior to display set creation.
31
DesignReview Integrator April 2002
________________

There is a limit of 65 entries in the label file.

Dimensions of weld graphics are determined by the information in the
DRV_WELD_DEF table in the Piping Job Specification tables library.
If this table does not exist in that library or if no NPD range includes the
specified weld NPD, the dimensions of the weld graphic are determined
using the following two rules:
Diameter = 130% of the NPD at the weld
Thickness = 25% of the NPD at the weld
Do Not Ship to Design Review / Ship Files to DesignReview This controls
whether or not DesignReview Integrator moves the resulting files to the node where the
DesignReview product resides.
Submit Immediately / Delayed Submit Time When delayed submission is
selected, you will be prompted to specify the time to submit the request for processing.
Enter the day, hour, and minute; then select AM or PM. If immediate submission is
selected, the request is processed immediately when the form is accepted.
Modify Label Extents This option activates the DesignReview Administrator
Form, which allows you to define the geographic extents to be processed by the
session. Refer to DesignReview Administrator Form, page 22, for more information.

This option makes changes to the .lst file, and if this session is sharing a
common .lst file with another session, both sessions are affected.

Modify Label Extents: DesignReview Administrator Form
________________

4.2.1 Modify Label Extents: DesignReview
Administrator Form

This form has three options that are primarily used in defining the scope of models to be
included in the tag file.

Options

You cannot use more than one option to create a DesignReview session. Each
option is independent of the others. Also remember that, if the project list was
specified using the Revise Project List command during the Create
DesignReview Session phase, any further modification to the .lst file must be
done using an external text editor.
Project Selects all model files in the project for processing.
Piping Design Area(s) Creates a list of all the model files in selected piping area(s).
See Piping Design Area(s), page 25,for information on using this option.
Design Area(s) Allows you to select a PDS discipline and the areas which it
contains. The system uses the selected areas to generate a list of models. See Design
Area(s), page 26, for information on using this option.

4.3 Delete DesignReview Session
Selecting this command activates the Delete DesignReview Session form, which displays a
list of available review numbers and descriptions. There is also a toggle that allows the option
to delete the associated .lst file and control file. Because the files can be shared by multiple
sessions, this toggles default setting is Do Not Delete Associated Files.

If the associated files are not deleted, the operating system can still recognize
them, and you will not be allowed to create new sessions with the same names.

After selecting the DesignReview session definition to delete, select Confirm to accept the
selection; then select Confirm again to delete the review session.

________________

4.4 DesignReview Label Builder
Selecting this command activates the DesignReview Label Builder form, which allows you
to select the sessions for which you want to create (or re-create) label files. You can select
multiple sessions; the selected sessions are highlighted.

Label files have a .drv extension, and they are created in the directory in which
the associated model file resides.
Label files that are up to date (that is, they are more recent than the models to
which they belong) are not processed; the system only creates labels for
models that have been revised since its label file was last built.
To create labels for PE_HVAC models, the name of the PE_HVAC project
database must be prj_[pdsprojectname], where [pdsprojectname] is the exact
name of the PDS project. If you want to use a different PE_HVAC project
schema name, you can set the system environment variable
PDS_HVAC_SCHEMA_NAME to prj_[myhvprojname], where
[myhvprojname] is the name you want to use for the PE_HVAC project.
The order in which DesignReview labels are displayed is hard-coded, and can
not be changed.

Options

Ship Files to DesignReview / Do NOT Ship to DesignReview This toggle controls
whether or not the label files being created will be shipped to the node being used for
the DesignReview session. (This path is defined in the DesignReview Defaults Setup
form.) If the toggle is set to Do NOT Ship to DesignReview, the files remain on the
local system where they were created.

________________

5.1.1 Review Tags

While in the tag environment, you can review the comments by number, by a substring
search, or by selecting the next or previous comment number. You can also respond to any
comment.
When using the next comment or previous comment option, this command filters out any
comments that are not associated with the active model. This filter is applied by comparing
the physical location of the comment with the volumetric range of the active model.
If a comment was made for a specific component during a DesignReview session, that
component is highlighted in the specified screen view and the orientation tee is displayed at
the tag point. If the component is not found, the system displays a message indicating that the
component was deleted.
Selecting the Review Tags option activates a form that allows you to select a tag file.

PDS uses the defined Tag File Path to look for the tag file. If this location is
the same as the Control File Path, the system can access the file across the
network. Otherwise, it may be necessary to copy the tag file to the location of
the control file.
Make sure the file protections on the tag file are such that it can be accessed by
the PDS user.
Select the tag file to be reviewed, and then select Confirm. The system displays the
DesignReview form that allows you to review and revise tag comments.

Camera View

This option activates five options that allow you to define the target, position, and clipping
planes for a view camera.

Setup This option allows you to set the target, position, and clipping planes for a
view camera and turn on the camera for the view. The camera lens is set with the Lens
option. Place a data point to define the camera target. The point becomes the focal
point (center) of the view. Objects that are beyond the target point appear smaller due
to the nature of the perspective projection. Objects that are in front of the target point
appear larger and may be excluded from the viewing pyramid.
Place a data point to define the camera position. A dynamic pyramid is displayed to
show the viewing volume with the camera at the pointer location.
Place a data point to define the front clipping plane (display depth). Any elements or
portions of elements in front of this plane are not displayed.
Place a final data point to define the back clipping plane (display depth). Any elements
or portions of elements that are beyond this plane are not displayed, but the view is
turned on.
Target This option allows you to set the target of a view camera without changing
the camera position. This is as is you are standing in one position and moving the
camera to view different angles.

Field Descriptions

I/Plot Parameter Files Place a data point in this field to select an I/Plot parameters
file to be used in plotting with your model. If no I/Plot parameters file is selected, the
default queue is used.
Queues Select a plot queue to process the plot job. If a queue is not selected, the
default plot queue is used.
Scales Allows you to select a plot scale. These scales are defined in the Standard
Note Library (Standard Note 1201) in the following format: m m"=n n"
where m is the scale on the plot, and n is the scale on the model. For example, 1/4"=1
indicates that 1/4 inch on the plot represents 1 foot in the model.

If you select a scale that would result in the plot being larger than the
size of the paper in the plotter, and if the selected queue is local so that
the size verification is accessible, then an error message is displayed and
you must either select a smaller scale, redefine the volume to be plotted,
or select a larger plotter.

DesignReview Model Transmittal
________________

6. DesignReview Model
Transmittal

This command automatically transmits a selected DesignReview data set to the applicable
DesignReview workstation.
The system copies the DesignReview models and the corresponding label files to the network
address and the path name for the DesignReview control file, as specified with the
DesignReview Default Setup command.

If you consider a DesignReview model as a snapshot of that part of the project,
it is highly recommended that a unique path name be used for each control file.
Hence, the data set for each DesignReview model is maintained separately and
the relationship between a version of a model and its corresponding label file is
consistent.
When this option is selected, the system activates the File Transmittal Interface form.

coordinate The location of a point along the X, Y, or Z axis.
coordinate system A geometric relation used to denote the location of points in the design
cube. The most common coordinate system is the rectangular coordinate
system, whereby points are located by traversing the X, Y, and Z axes of the
design cube. Normally, coordinate systems have their origin defined as
0,0,0, though this is not required. Other coordinate systems are used to more
easily express the coordinates of specific geometric entities. For example,
you can use a spherical coordinate system to help define points on a sphere,
and you can use a cylindrical coordinate system to help define points on a
cylinder.
coordinates An ordered set of absolute or relative data values that specify a location in a
coordinate system.
core files The image files written by System V for a number of reasons, the most
common of which are memory violations, illegal instructions, bus errors,
and user-generated quit signals.
cursor The pointer that the user moves on the screen to indicate an item or area.
data button The mouse button used to place data points and tentative points, to accept

and workstations. NFS allows you to mount a remote resource to your local
workstation so you can access the data as though it were local. NFS is
usually used to access centralized data on a server.
node Any addressable device (such as a workstation or a server) that is connected
to a network. The network enables the connected nodes to share data and
system control.
node address The hard-wired Ethernet address assigned to each node when it is
manufactured. It is necessary for each node to identify and communicate
with another node in the network.
node name A name, or alias, that can be assigned to the node address of a device on a
network.

DesignReview Administrator Form (replaces
4.1.1)
Note: The information in this section supersedes the information in the corresponding
section of previous versions of the DesignReview Integrator Reference Guide (pp 22-24
in the PDS 7.1 version of the document).
The following information has been added:
Weld ownership information
DRV_WELD_DEF table clarification
Project with Model Search Criteria button
Project button renamed to Complete Project
See the following text for details.
This form has five options that are primarily used in defining the scope of models to be
included in the tag file. Submission time can also be specified using this form. Select
your settings, and then select the Confirm button to accept the settings on the form. The
system then creates the DesignReview session using the specified information.

Note: When the DesignReview session is created, no preliminary models are processed
unless they are specified by the Revise Project List option.
Note: You cannot use more than one option to create a DesignReview session. Each
option is independent of the others.
Note: The first four options (Complete Project, Project with Model Search Criteria,
Piping Design Area(s), and Design Area(s)) all write the .lst file in a format that
DesignReview Integrator Reference Guide Addendum February 2003
72
is readable by PDS, while the Revise Project List creates a file that can be edited
for revision purposes by an external text editor such as (vi, emacs, I/Edit, or
Notepad).
Options
Complete Project Selects all model files in the project for processing.
Project with Model Search Criteria Selects models in the project based on user-
defined search criteria.
Piping Design Area(s) Creates a list of all the model files in selected piping
area(s). See Piping Design Area(s), page 25, for information on using this option.
Design Area(s) Allows you to select a PDS discipline and the areas that it
contains. The system uses the selected areas to generate a list of models. See Design
Area(s), page 26, for information on using this option.
Revise Project List Allows you to select models to be included in the model list.
See Revise Project List, page 27, for information on using this option.
Field Descriptions
Create Labels / Do Not Create Labels The setting of this toggle controls whether
or not the software creates the label file when the form is accepted. (The label file
contains the database information associated with all elements within a model.) This
file can be created immediately upon confirming this form, or it can be delayed until a
specific day and time (either with the Submit Immediately / Delayed Submit Time
toggle on this form, or with the various Label Builder options available from the
main DesignReview Administrator form). If this toggle is set to Create Labels, the
next two toggles are presented on the form.
Note: In order to read and store the label files in a project database more easily,
DesignReview Integrator outputs entries in the label file using the format
name : value. VAX-based projects may require regeneration of label data
prior to display set creation.
Note: There is a limit of 65 entries in the label file.
Do Not Ship to DesignReview / Ship Files to DesignReview This controls
whether DesignReview Integrator copies the resulting files to the node being used for
the DesignReview sessions. (This path is defined in the DesignReview Defaults
Setup form.)
Submit Immediately / Delayed Submit Time When delayed submission is
selected, you are prompted to specify the time to submit the request for processing.
Enter the day, hour, and minute; then select AM or PM. If immediate submission is
selected, the request is processed immediately when the form is accepted.
Add Weld Graphics / Do NOT Add Weld Graphics This toggle is available
only if the Ship Files to DesignReview option is selected. This toggle controls
whether graphical representations of welds appear in the DesignReview session.

73
When weld graphics are added, they are stored in the copy of the files sent to
DesignReview; they are not saved in the project files. Attributes of the weld, such as
the weld number or the weld type (as defined in Label 353), are included in a tag file.
Note: Weld graphics are generated only where piping, instrumentation, and/or
components form a weld connection. Weld graphics are not generated to
represent welded ends that are not connected to other items.
Note: Dimensions of weld graphics are determined by the information in the
DRV_WELD_DEF table in the Piping Job Specification tables library, using
the owning component of the weld. If this table does not exist in that library,
weld graphics are added for all welds, using the following default values:
Diameter = 130% of the NPD at the weld
Thickness = 25% of the NPD at the weld
If the DRV_WELD_DEF table does exist in the Piping Job Specification
tables library, then weld graphics are added for only the welds that satisfy the
NPD and Weld Type ranges in the DRV_WELD_DEF table.
DesignReview Integrator Reference Guide Addendum February 2003
74
Project with Model Search Criteria
This option allows you to filter models to be processed during label file creation and
transmittal. The search criteria are based on model data contained in pdtable_113.

When you select an attribute, applicable operator options are displayed along the bottom
of the form.
The combination of these operators with either attribute values or (where applicable)
code list values enables you to fully specify an attribute restriction (for example,
discipline = Equipment). You can combine these specifications as needed using the And
and Or options, which are displayed in place of the operator options after you have
defined a model attribute restriction.
When you select a code-listed attribute, the Review Standard Notes form is displayed.
This form provides a list of valid codes for the specified attribute. Simply select a code
from the list and click Accept to continue with the specification.
When you specify search criteria and click Accept, the system creates a discrimination
data file with the same name as the associated control file and a .crt file extension.
When you are using this form to revise existing search criteria, additional options are
provided for you to insert, remove, or clear search criteria specifications.

DesignReview Integrator Reference Guide Addendum February 2003
78

Field Descriptions
DesignReview Number Key in a DesignReview number (up to 25 characters).
The DesignReview number is used for identification purposes only.
DesignReview Title Key in a DesignReview title (up to 40 characters). The
DesignReview title is used for identification purposes only.
DesignReview Type When this field is active, the system displays the Review
Standard Notes form. Select either Client Review or Informal Review and select
Confirm. Currently, the DesignReview Type has no impact on the DesignReview
Integrator software.
Control File Prefix Key in a unique name for the control file, or select Use
Existing Session to choose an existing session whose information you want to use.
The system automatically updates the Control File Name and Tag File Name fields.
Control File Name The system appends a .dri extension to the control file prefix.
The control file contains model data and parameter data for DesignReview. For more
information on the .dri file, refer to the DesignReview Users Guide.
Control File Path Key in the directory where the control file will be located. The
path entered here will be echoed to the Tag File Path field.
Control File Node Key in the node name where the control file will be located.
The path entered here will be echoed to the Tag File Node field.
Tag File Name When a Control File Prefix (above) is keyed in, the system echoes
that file name with a .tag extension to the Tag File Name field. The tag file contains
the tag data for the models included in the control file.

79
Note: PDS uses the defined Tag File Path to look for the tag file. If this location is
the same as the Control File Path, the system can access the file across the
network. Otherwise, it may be necessary to copy the tag file to the location of
the control file.
Tag File Path After a Control File Path (above) is keyed in, the system echoes
the file path to the Tag File Path field. The tag file path represents the location of the
tag file.
Tag File Node After a Control File Node is keyed in, the system echoes the node
to the Tag File Node field. The tag file node represents the node where the tag file is
located.
Options
Use Existing Session This option activates the Label Builder Interface form.
When you select an existing DesignReview session from this form, the current
session will use the same .lst file that the existing session does.
Note: This option does not copy the .lst file that tells the software which models to
process; this file is shared between each session that uses it. This means that
any modifications made to the geographic extents of either session (via the
Modify Label Extents command, for example) that share a .lst file will affect
any sessions that share the .lst.

When this form is accepted, you return to the Label Builder Interface form, which
will have inherited the data from the DesignReview session you just selected.
Once the appropriate information has been defined and the Label Builder Interface
form is accepted, the system displays the DesignReview Administrator form.
DesignReview Integrator Reference Guide Addendum February 2003
80
Create Labels / Do Not Create Labels This controls whether or not the software
creates the label file when the form is accepted. (The label file contains the database
information associated with all elements within a model.) This file can be created
immediately upon confirming this form, or it can be delayed until a specific day and
time (either with the Submit Immediately / Delayed Submit Time toggle on this
form, or with the various Label Builder options available from the main
DesignReview Administrator form). If this toggle is set to Create Labels, the next
two toggles are presented on the form.
Note: In order to read and store the label files in a project database more easily,
DesignReview Integrator outputs entries in the label file using the format
name : value. VAX-based projects may require regeneration of label data
prior to display set creation.
Note: There is a limit of 65 entries in the label file.
Add Weld Graphics / Do NOT Add Weld Graphics This toggle is available
only if the Ship Files to DesignReview option is selected. This toggle controls
whether graphical representations of welds appear in the DesignReview session.
If the DRV_WELD_DEF table does exist in the Piping Job Specification
tables library, then weld graphics are added for only the welds that satisfy the
NPD and Weld Type ranges in the DRV_WELD_DEF table.

section of previous versions of the DesignReview Integrator Reference Guide (p. 33 in the
PDS 7.1 version of the document).
The following information has been added:
Project with Model Search Criteria button
Project button renamed to Complete Project
See the following text for details.
This form has four options that are primarily used in defining the scope of models to be
included in the tag file.

Note: You cannot use more than one option to create a DesignReview session. Each
option is independent of the others. Also remember that, if the project list was
specified using the Revise Project List command during the Create DesignReview
Session phase, any further modification to the .lst file must be done using an
external text editor.

83
Design Area(s) Allows you to select a PDS discipline and the areas that it
contains. The system uses the selected areas to generate a list of models. See Design

DesignReview Scheduled Label Builder
(replaces 4.5)
Note: The information in this section supersedes the information in the corresponding
section of previous versions of the DesignReview Integrator Reference Guide (pp 37-39
in the PDS 7.1 version of the document).
The following information has been added:
Updated Before Using This Command section
See the following text for details.
This command displays the DesignReview Scheduled Label Builder form that is used to
control scheduled, repeated creation of the label files for one or many DesignReview
sessions.

Before Using this Command
Note: DRI file locking prevents changes to DesignReview session parameters while the
label files are generated.
When running on the Windows NT operating system, Scheduled Label Builder uses the
at utility in conjunction with the Schedule Service. For the at utility to be available, the
schedule service must be running. It is suggested that this service be set to start
automatically. To do this, select Services from the Control Panel program group.
Note: You must be an administrator (or have administrative privileges) to submit a job
to the at scheduler. This is a Windows NT restriction, not a PDS restriction.

85

Select Schedule from the list of services, and click Startup to define the startup option.

Set the Startup Type to Automatic. Click OK on the Service dialog box, and click
Start on the Services dialog box to start the schedule service if it is not already running.
Note: The logon user (system account or "this account" will impact how you set the
account mapping in NT Batch Manager. For additional information, see the
System Administrator Responsibilities section of the PDS Project Setup
Technical Reference.
Note: For Windows 2000, the Task Scheduler service must be run as the system
account. If you want scheduled jobs to run as a specific user account you should
set the AT Service Account.
Open Task Scheduler. On the Advanced menu, click AT Service Account.
Click This Account, and then type the user account that will run tasks that are
scheduled by using the at command.
In the Password and Confirm Password fields, type the correct password for
the account.
Field Descriptions
Review Number This field displays the number that was assigned to the
DesignReview session upon creation or last revision.
Day(s) This field displays the day(s) that the label files will be built for the
DesignReview session in that row of the table.
DesignReview Integrator Reference Guide Addendum February 2003
86
Months This field displays the months(s) that the label files will be built for the
DesignReview session in that row of the table.
Time This field displays the time of day that the label files will be built for the
DesignReview session in that row of the table.
Node This field displays the node on which the schedule script and schedule data
files reside.
Note: Using the previous form as an example, the label file for the DeasonTech
Chemicals 1 session will be created every Monday and Thursday of every month
at 9:43 am, and the schedule script and its data will reside on the deason node.
Select a session to schedule; then select Confirm to activate the Scheduled Label
Builder form, which allows you to define the data for the schedule file. For more
information, see Scheduling Label Builder, page 40.

87
Scheduled Label Builder (replaces 4.5.1)
Note: The information in this section supersedes the information in the corresponding
section of previous versions of the DesignReview Integrator Reference Guide (pp 40-41
in the PDS 7.1 version of the document).
The following information has been added:
Weld ownership information
See the following text for details.
This form allows you to define the schedule file that the Scheduled Label Builder uses
to create the label file for the DesignReview session.

Field Descriptions
File Specification This field allows you to name the schedule file.
File Path This field determines where the schedule file will reside on the local
system.
Do Not Ship to Design Review / Ship Files to DesignReview This toggle
controls whether or not DesignReview Integrator copies the resulting label files to the
node being used for the DesignReview session. (This path is defined in the
DesignReview Default Setup form.)
Add Weld Graphics / Do NOT Add Weld Graphics This toggle is available
only if the Ship Files to DesignReview option is selected. This toggle controls
whether graphical representations of welds appear in the DesignReview session.
When weld graphics are added, they are stored in the copy of the files sent to
DesignReview Integrator Reference Guide Addendum February 2003
88
Select Month(s) / All Months This toggle controls in which month(s) the session
being scheduled will be processed. If this toggle is set to Select Month(s), the list of
months to select from will be activated when either the Day of Week or the Specific
Day box is checked.
Daily Checking this box sets the session to be processed daily, at the time
specified in the Hr:Min field.
Day of Week Checking this box activates the week day gadget, which allows you
to select specific days in the week for the session to be processed for building the
label files. Select the days in the month(s) that you want to create the label files.
Specific Day Checking this box activates the calendar day gadget, which allows
you to select specific days in the month(s) for the session to be processed for building
the label files. Select the numbers that correspond with the dates of the month(s) you
want to create the label files.
Hr:Min and AM/PM These fields allow you to define the precise time of the day
or night that you want to initiate building the label files.

Design Area(s) (replaces 4.1.1.2)
Note: The information in this section supersedes the information in the corresponding
section of previous versions of the DesignReview Integrator Reference Guide (p. 26 in the
PDS 7.1 version of the document).
The following information has been added:
Note about shipping FrameWorks Plus models to DesignReview
See the following text for details.
This option creates a list of all the models in the selected design area(s) for processing.
You can select areas from any of the PDS disciplines. The models that are processed are
those whose areas overlap.

Select the appropriate discipline from the list; then select Confirm. This displays a list of
available design areas and descriptions.

93

From the list, select the Design Area that contains the models to process. You can select
additional design areas as needed. When your selection is complete, select Confirm to
accept the highlighted design area(s). The system returns to the DesignReview
Administrator form.
Note: If you select propagated FrameWorks Plus models, the corresponding .sld, .lin,
and .nmg files are shipped along with the .drv files to the defined DesignReview
directory when you use the Ship to DesignReview option in the Label Builder.
The .sld, .lin, and .nmg files are structural binary files that contain attribute
information used in SmartPlant Review.

DesignReview Label Builder (replaces 4.4)
Note: The information in this section supersedes the information in the corresponding
section of previous versions of the DesignReview Integrator Reference Guide (p 35-36 in
the PDS 7.1 version of the document).
The following information has been added:
Note about FrameWorks Plus labels
Note about hard-coded label numbers
See the following text for details.
Selecting this command activates the DesignReview Label Builder form, which allows
you to select the sessions for which you want to create (or re-create) label files. You can
select multiple sessions; the selected sessions are highlighted.
Note: Label files have a .drv extension, and they are created in the directory in which
the associated model file resides.
Note: Label files that are up to date (that is, they are more recent than the models to
which they belong) are not processed; the system only creates labels for models
that have been revised since its label file was last built.
Note: To create labels for PE_HVAC models, the name of the PE_HVAC project
database must be prj_[pdsprojectname], where [pdsprojectname] is the exact
name of the PDS project. If you want to use a different PE_HVAC project schema
name, you can set the system environment variable
PDS_HVAC_SCHEMA_NAME to prj_[myhvprojname], where [myhvprojname]
is the name you want to use for the PE_HVAC project.
Note: The label numbers and the order in which DesignReview labels are displayed are
hard-coded, and can not be changed.
Note: PDS and FrameWorks Plus use different methods to generate DesignReview
labels for FWP models. PDS uses the label description library to build labels,
while FrameWorks Plus generates hard-coded labels. Thus, a label for an item in
a FrameWorks Plus model may contain different information depending on
whether the .drv file was generated by the DesignReview Label Builder or by
FrameWorks Plus.

95

Options
Ship Files to DesignReview / Do NOT Ship to DesignReview This toggle
