A
fter four years of late
night studying, jug-
gling sports and ex-
tracurricular activities, and
volunteering, the top schol-
ars at area high schools are
discovering that hard work
truly does pay off as they
prepare to start a new chap-
ter in their lives.
Va l edi ct or i a ns a nd
salutatorians from local high
schools are headed to col-
leges and universities across
the country, with some of the
top choices being Indiana
University, the University of
Southern Indiana and Pur-
due University.
Some of the other destina-
tions also included the Uni-
versity of Evansville, the
University of Louisville, the
University of Kentucky and
the University of Chicago.
But no matter where their
destination may be, all of
these students have cred-
ited a variety of things to
their success over the past
four years and most of
them have agreed that hard
work and perseverance have
pushed them to the top of
their class.
Centrals Ashley Yeaden
said that the most impor-
tant thing Ive taken from
high school is how important
education is. Working hard,
especially when you want to
give up, truly pays off in the
end.
Olivia Morris from Harri-
son said there are no short
cuts or easy route to being
your best. Achievement is
not a sprint, but a long dis-
tance marathon.
Eric Klipsch from Memo-
rial attributes time manage-
ment skills and self disci-
pline as some of the most
important tools one can de-
velop throughout their high
school years.
Very rarely do we
have one event or task at a
time. More often than not,
we have several running in
completely different direc-
tions, making it difficult
to keep track of them all.
Ive found the best way to
deal with this fact of life is
through good time manage-
ment and disciplined focus,
both of which Ive developed
in high school, said Klipsch.
