It's unfair for Jonathan Tobin to view people who fear appeasement as
engaging in a "Dialogue of the Deaf" (A Matter of Opinion, June 2),
when challenging the Israeli government's decision.

Even those who hope for a two-state solution are uneasy in the face of
daily reports of increased terrorism.

As a member of the Board of the Zionist Organization of America, I was
authorized to ask one question of Lt. Col. Lior Lifschitz when he visited
Philadelphia last month.

It is inappropriate to characterize the other questioners as "ZOA
tormenters" because, if they were ZOA members, they were querying
solely as individuals. It was even necessary to correct the speaker when
he used the phrase "occupied territory," instead of "Gaza, Judea and
Samaria."

Recalling how Israel was almost dismembered a half-decade ago, this
adage is apt: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Immigration has emerged as perhaps President Obama's worst issue
definitely for today, and maybe of his entire presidency when it comes
to public perception.

A new poll from AP-GfK shows more than two-thirds of Americans (68
percent) disapprove of Obama's handling of the immigration issue in
general. Just 31 percent approve down from 38 percent two months
ago.

When you separate those most passionate about the issue, the
difference is even more stark, with 57 percent opposed and just 18
percent in favor. That's more than three-to-one.

Oklahoma AG Adds Jonathan Gruber's Subsidies Comments as Evidence in Obamacare Challenge -
Wednesday, the State of Oklahoma filed a motion to inform a federal judge of newly-discovered facts
in the states challenge of Obamacare. These new facts were two audio tapes of Jonathan Gruber, the
Obamacare Architect, stating that Obamacare subsidies are tied only to the existence of state exchanges
and not a federal exchange. One of these newly-discovered facts was the audiotape reported last Friday
morning by Breitbart News and John Sexton.

DESPITE OBAMA'S PRESSURE, ISRAEL CONTINUES THE FIGHT AGAINST HAMAS

Last Sunday, President Barack Obama called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to press Israel to
agree to an "immediate, unconditional, humanitarian" ceasefire. This came just days after Israel
firmly rejected a ceasefire proposal (read it here) offered by Secretary of State John Kerry. Israel
objected to the proposal because it treated Hamas' demands as legitimate while making no mention
of Israel's demand to demilitarize Gaza.

David Horovitz, founding editor of the Times of Israel, called Kerry's ceasefire proposal a "betrayal".
The proposal also gave Qatar and Turkey a key role in the process, shutting out Egypt, Jordan, and
other U.S. allies in the region. The New York Times reports that, "Egypt has led a new coalition of Arab
states - including Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates - that has effectively lined up
with Israel in its fight against Hamas." Fatah was also ignored, leading Palestinian Authority officials to
denounce the proposal.

The RJC responded to the administration's pressure by calling on President Obama to remember his
own words, spoken in Sderot in 2008:

What I think that Israel has to do is to make sure that that peace is not purchased at -
by putting Israel's security at risk. And it's the job of the United States I think, to
make sure that that peace is centered and promotes Israel's long-term security.

The RJC stated:
Israel is at war with an implacable enemy, one that has victimized its own people and
kept them in poverty in order to build terrorist tunnels and stockpile weapons in
hopes of killing thousands of Israeli civilians. Israel is determined to destroy Hamas'
capability to carry out its heinous agenda. Any ceasefire that forces Israel to stop
short of that goal is indeed purchasing only a temporary ceasefire at the cost of
Israel's long-term security.
At the start of an emergency cabinet meeting in Tel Aviv this morning, Prime Minister Netanyahu
asserted that the Israel Defense Forces will dismantle the Hamas tunnel network in the Gaza Strip
"with or without a cease-fire."

CONGRESS BACKS ISRAEL
The U.S. Congress has demonstrated strong support for Israel in several different ways this week.
A bipartisan group of House members are gathering signatures on a letter that calls on the United
Nations "to formally recognize Gaza's rockets as an impenetrable barrier to regional peace, and to
make their immediate removal a top priority."

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner both made strong
statements supporting Israel's right to self-defense.

The House and Senate each passed a resolution condemning the Hamas attacks on Israel and
affirming Israel's right to defend itself from such attacks.

Republicans in Congress continued to lead the charge for more funding for Israel's Iron Dome
program.

On the other hand, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi made a naive comment in a CNN interview,
saying, "We have to confer with the Qataris who have told me over and over again that Hamas is a
humanitarian organization." RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks reacted to the comment in an
interview with WUSA reporter Jim Osman:

Reporter: Pelosi's spokesman says Pelosi does also believe Hamas is a terrorist
organization, but Matt Brooks with the Republican Jewish Coalition says Pelosi's initial
remarks feed into what he sees as a part of a misinformation campaign.
Brooks: I think the Palestinians and Hamas and their proxies have done a good job at
waging a public opinion battle, but I think here in the United States, I think a lot of
Americans really understand what's at stake, that this is a conflict between good and
evil.

POLLS SHOW PARTISAN DIVIDE ON ISRAEL

Two weeks ago, a Pew poll showed once again that Republicans support Israel more than Democrats
do - by a 29 point margin. This week another Pew poll asked, "Who is most responsible for the current
violence [between Israel and Gaza]?" Sixty percent of Republicans answered "Hamas", while only 29%
of Democrats said the same. Nearly half of Republican respondents to that poll (46%) said Israel's
response to the conflict has been about right, while 35% of Democrats said Israel's response has gone
too far.

That partisan divide is also seen in a new Washington Post/ABC poll on President Obama's handling of
the Mideast crisis. When asked, "Overall, do you approve or disapprove of the way Obama is handling
the situation between Israel and the Palestinians?" a whopping 78% of Republicans disapproved (57%
strongly) while 65% of Democrats approved (28% strongly) of the job the President is doing on this
issue.

Bill McGurn argues in the New York Post that when President Obama leaves office in 2017, "the
Democratic Party he leaves behind will be one whose sympathies no longer embrace the Jewish state."
