Your phone has a browser that brings the Internet to your mobile phone.
Use the Internet to access online services such as news, banking and Google.

Before you start


Make sure you have your EDGE, GPRS, GSM or UMTS network operator and/or service provider
subscription information ready before you start entering settings. Support documents, settings and more
information are available at www.sonyericsson.com/support.

To be able to access the Internet with your phone, you need:

• A phone subscription that has data transmission.

• Data account settings for access to an Internet server.

• An Internet profile with settings for Web browsing.

Your phone may already contain Internet profile and data account settings when you buy it, or you can
receive or enter them yourself.

You may also have to register as an Internet and email user with your network operator or service
provider.

Internet settings
You can receive or enter Internet profile and data account setting in three ways:

• Automatically, by using the Sony Ericsson Phone setup for Internet (if supported by your service
provider) % 3 To receive settings using the Phone setup for Internet.

• Automatically, by receiving them from your service provider % 3 To receive settings from your service
provider.

• Manually, by entering the settings in your phone % 4 To enter settings manually.

Entering the necessary settings automatically is recommended, if possible, as this takes less time
and effort than entering them manually.

To receive settings using the Phone setup for Internet


You find the Sony Ericsson Phone setup for Internet at www.sonyericsson.com/support. First select region
and country, then select Phone setup and your phone model. To receive the correct settings, you need the
following information:

• Phone model

• Country (the country you are in)

• Mobile network

• Data connection type

Follow the instructions on the screen. You will receive the auto configuration via SMS. When you receive
the text message, simply } Yes to install your new settings. You are now ready to start using the Internet
with your mobile phone.

To receive settings from your service provider


Check your service provider’s Web site for information or contact their support desk and ask about
automatic remote configuration of Internet.

If remote configuration is possible, your service provider will send you auto configuration via SMS. When
you receive the text message, simply } Yes to install the settings.

To enter settings manually


To be able to enter settings manually, you must have the relevant information which you get from your
service provider:

Enter the settings in the phone


1. } Settings } the Connectivity tab } Internet settings } Internet profiles } New profile.
2. } Add to enter the Name: field. Enter a name for the profile } OK.
3. Press and select the Connect using field. } New account } Add.
4. Select PS data to set up a GPRS account, or CS data to set up a GSM account.

In some phones you select GPRS data or GSM data instead.

5. Enter a name for the account } Continue.


6. } Edit to enter the required information. After you enter each information item } OK.
7. } Save.
8. Select the data account you have just created } Save.
9. Select the profile you have just created. Press and hold to return to standby. You are now ready
to start using the Internet browser.

Accessing the Internet


With your phone you have access to the Internet wherever you are as long as you have coverage. The
following symbols tell you if you have coverage:

3G (UMTS) network is within range and can be used.

GPRS network is within range and can be used.

Tells you the strength of the GSM network signal.

You can access the Internet quickly and easily in several ways:

• By selecting Internet in the main menu % 5 Using the Internet Services in the main menu.

• By selecting the ”Sony Ericsson” bookmark in Internet % 6 Adding a bookmark.

• By entering a Web address in the browser % 5 Entering a Web address.

Internet security and certificates


Your phone supports secure browsing. Certain Internet services, such as banking require certificates
in your phone. Your phone may already contain certificates when you buy it or you can download new
certificates.

To check certificates in your phone


} Settings } the General tab } Security } Certificates.

Using the Internet Services in the main menu


Select Internet from the menu. This can be a pre-loaded Web page stored in the phone or it can be a link
to an online Web page. Here you can access online services designed to support your phone. You can
access different services depending on the phone or model you have, for example:

• SonyEricsson: Go to the Sony Ericsson predefined homepage set for the current profile.

• Search: Direct access to www.google.com. Google services let you search for Internet sites.

• Accessories: A site where you can maximize the potential of your phone.

• FUN&downloads: Here you can download, for example, ringtones, images, video and more to your
phone.

• Settings: Settings and configurations such as MMS can be downloaded.

• Registration: Register your phone with Sony Ericsson for extra member benefits, exclusive content,
online tools, own storage area and more.

Your phone may not support this service.

• Scoopt: Send your pictures or videos for possible sale to news organizations or other publishers. For
more information, visit www.scoopt.com.

Your phone may not support this service.

Entering a Web address


Use your phone to access the Internet wherever you are. Use Internet services for entertainment or to find
information.

To enter a Web address


1. } Internet. When the page is downloaded } More.
2. } Go to } Enter address } New address.
3. Write the address, for example www.sonyericsson.com.
4. } Go to. The phone connects to that site.

Adding a bookmark
Bookmarks are a convenient way of handling Internet addresses. Use bookmarks to handle the addresses
of your favourite Web pages.

To add a new bookmark


1. } Internet } More } Go to } Bookmarks } New bookmark.
2. In the Title: field enter a name for the bookmark } OK.
3. In the Address: field enter the address for your new bookmark } OK.
4. } Save.

You can also add the Web page you are currently viewing to your list of bookmarks. } More } Tools
} Add bookmark.

To use the Sony Ericsson bookmark


You have direct access to Sony Ericsson “Fun and Downloads” at www.sonyericsson.com/fun. } Internet
} More } Go to } Sony Ericsson. Here you can download sounds, games, pictures, themes and MMS
templates.

Using shortcuts
When using the Internet you can use keypad shortcuts to menu options.

To use Internet keypad shortcuts or access keys


1. When browsing, press and hold to select Shortcuts or Access keys.
2. If you select Shortcuts you can press a key for a function as follows:

Changing homepage
You can select an Internet page of your choice as homepage in your phone. When you have set a
homepage, a direct link to this page will appear in } More } Go to.

To set homepage
1. } Internet } More } Go to } Bookmarks.
2. Highlight the bookmark of the page you want to use as homepage } More } Set as homepage.
3. } Yes to confirm the new homepage.

Internet profiles
You can select another Internet profile if you have more than one.

To select an Internet profile


} Settings and use the navigation key to scroll to the Connectivity tab } Internet settings } Internet profiles
and select a profile.

Internet profile for Java™ applications


Some Java™ applications need to connect to the Internet to receive information, for example, games that
download new levels from a game server.

Settings must be in your phone before you start, see % 3 Internet settings.

To select a profile for Java


} Settings } the Connectivity tab } Internet settings } Settings for Java and select an Internet profile.

Cookies, cache and passwords


When browsing, you can save the following information:

• Cookies – improve Web page access efficiency.


• Passwords – improve server access efficiency.

It is advisable to clear all sensitive information from previously visited Internet services. This is to
avoid misuse of personal information if your phone is misplaced, lost or stolen.

To allow cookies
} Internet } More } Options } the Browsing tab } Allow cookies } On.

To clear cookies, cache or passwords


} Internet } More } Options } the Other tab and select an option } Yes.

Internet browser options


With the browser open } More to view a list of browsing options. The options may vary depending on the
site you are visiting.

• } Go to to select from the following options:


• Sony Ericsson – to go to the predefined homepage set for the current profile.
• Bookmarks – access an existing bookmark or add the current Web page to the list of bookmarks.
• Enter address – enter the address of a Web page you want to visit.
• Search Internet – direct access to www.google.com.
• History – list of previously visited Web pages.
• Saved pages – list of your saved Web pages.

• } Tools to select from the following options:

• Add bookmark – add the current Web page to the list of bookmarks.
• Save picture – save the picture from the Web page.
• Save page – save the current Web page.
• Refresh page – refresh the contents of the current Web page.
• Send link – send a link to the current Web page to another phone.
• Make a call – make a call when browsing the Internet. } More } End call to end the call and continue
browsing.

• } View to select from the following options:

• Fullscreen – select normal or fullscreen. Note: Full/normal are only available with portrait mode.
• Landscape – select landscape or portrait view.

• Text only – select full content or text only.


• Zoom – zoom in or out on a Web page.
• } Options } the Browsing tab to select from the following options:

• Smart-Fit – adjust the Web page to your screen to avoid horizontal scrolling.
• Show pictures – set on or off.
• Show animations – set on or off.
• Play sounds – set on or off.
• Allow cookies – settings for Web page information for quicker access when re-visiting Web pages.
• Keypad mode – select from: Shortcuts for browser keys or Access keys for visiting Web pages again,
if available.

• } Options } the Other tab and select from the following options:

• Clear cookies – clear all Web page information (cookies) saved in your phone.
• Clear cache – clear all temporarily stored Internet files saved in your phone.
• Clear passwords – remove used passwords.
• Status – show connection information, for example, profile, access type, security or address.

• } Exit browser – to disconnect and go to standby.

RSS reader (Web site information updates)


When browsing, you can receive frequently updated content such as news headlines, as feeds via a Web
site. You can browse to a Web page to add new feeds if available. Really Simple Syndication (RSS)
options are set via the RSS reader and shown in the Internet browser.

To add new feeds


1. When browsing on a Web page } More } RSS feeds.
2. Mark the feeds you want to add to the RSS reader } Continue.

To create a new feed


1. } Messaging } RSS reader } More } New feed.
2. Enter the Web address.

To set and use RSS reader options


1. } Messaging } RSS reader } More.
2. Select one of the following options:
• Update now – to update the selected feed.
• Schedule update – select how often the feed should be updated.
• Delete – to delete the selected feed.
• Information – information about the feed, for example, size and when it was last updated.
• New feed – enter the Web address } Go to and the feed will be located.
• Update all – to update all saved feeds.
• Settings – select whether to send and receive data via your home or any network.
• Add symbol – add a symbol to the Web address.

• Copy all – to copy the entered Web address.


• Paste – to paste the copied Web address.

Using networks other than your home network may cause extra costs.

Downloading
With your phone you can download ringtones, themes, games and more from Sony Ericsson at
www.sonyericsson.com/fun.

Before you can use this functionality, please make sure that your subscription supports Internet, and that
your Internet settings are stored in your phone. See % 3 To receive settings using the Phone setup for
Internet.

Download a ringtone
Using the direct link
The instructions below are valid for the direct link in the phone to the Sony Ericsson Fun and Downloads
Internet site, www.sonyericsson.com/fun, where the ringtones are available.

Download a ringtone via Internet


1. } File manager } Music } Ringtone.
2. } Sony Ericsson } Go to. The phone is now connecting.
3. Follow the instructions on the Sony Ericsson Web site.
4. After selecting phone signal } Download to download the ringtone. Information about the download, if
you will be charged for example, is shown. You are notified if there is not enough memory to store the
ringtone in the phone.
To free memory you need to remove files from your phone. For memory status } File manager } More
} Memory status or press from standby.
5. When the download is completed } More } Exit browser. The downloaded ringtone is saved in
} File manager } Music.
6. To use the downloaded ringtone, } File manager } Music. Select the downloaded ringtone } More
} Use as } Ringtone.

Download a theme
The instructions below are valid for using the direct link to the Sony Ericsson Fun and Downloads Internet
site, www.sonyericsson.com/fun, where the themes are available.

Download a theme via Internet


1. } File manager } Themes }.
2. } Sony Ericsson } Go to. The phone is now connecting.

3. Follow the instructions on the Web page.


4. After selecting a theme } Download to download the theme. Information about the download is shown
on the screen, for example, if you will be charged. You are notified if there is not enough memory to
store the theme in the phone.
5. When the download is complete } More } Exit browser. The downloaded theme is saved in
} File manager } Themes.

To free memory you need to remove files from your phone. For memory status } File manager } More
} Memory status or press from standby.

Download a game
The instructions below are valid for the direct link to the Sony Ericsson Fun and Downloads Internet site,
www.sonyericsson.com/fun, where the games and applications are available.

To download a game via Internet


1. } File manager } Games }.
2. } Sony Ericsson } Go to. The phone is now connecting.
3. Follow the instructions on the Sony Ericsson Web site.
4. After selecting a game } Download to download the game. Information about the download, if you will
be charged for example, is shown. You are notified if there is not enough memory to store the game in
the phone.
5. When the download is complete } More } Exit browser. The downloaded game is saved in
} File manager } Games.

To free memory you need to remove files from your phone. For memory status } File manager } More
} Memory status or press from standby.
