Cruell and sodaine, has thou since De púrpura manchaste, sem demência,
Purpled thy naile, in blood of innocence? As unhas com o sangue da inocência?
In what could this flea guilty bee, Essa pulga seria tão daninha,
Except in that drop which it suckt from thee? Só por te haver sugado uma gotinha?
Yet thou triumph'st, and saist that thou Porém, exultas porque após tal morte
Find'st not thyself, nor mee the weaker now; Nenhum de nós se mostra menos forte.
'Tis true, then learne how false, feares bee; Bem, vê como o temor é ruim;
Just so much honor, when thou yeeld'st to mee, Perderás tanto de honra ao vires para mim.
Will wast, as this flea's death tooke life from thee. Quanto de vida porque a pulga teve fim.

HOLY SONNETS. X.
Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so ;
For those, whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy picture[s] be,
Much pleasure, then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou'rt slave to Fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy, or charms can make us sleep as well,
And better than thy stroke ; why swell'st thou then ?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally,
And Death shall be no more ; Death, thou shalt die.
