character as the Cement Paint, but with a limited ageing process. The product has excellent weatherproofing and durability properties, with superb
abrasion resistance giving an impressive balance of long life and toughness to the coating.

COLOUR RANGE

A standard range of 14 earthy tones, tinted using light-fast oxides and other inorganic oxides, are available:
Putty Lime White
Anthrocite Karoo Brown
Lions Head String
Dirty Straw Roman Ochre
Paternoster Sand Morrocan
Driftwood Boulders
Sandstone Atlantic Beach

SPECIAL NOTE: Colours can be tinted using Zero VOC, Glycol Free, APEO free, NPEO free, and Formaldehyde free strainers which do not add to
the VOC of the product, unlike the standard tinters used within the paint industry.

PACKAGING

5 litre and 20 litre

RECOMMENDED FOR

EXTERIOR surfaces.

Ideal for use on new or previously painted plastered walls, fairfaced or bagged cement or clay brickwork and cement blockwork.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR

Not suitable for interior use.

APPLICATION

PLEASE NOTE: Correct preparation is essential. All surfaces must be sound and prepared in the recommended manner. For more information
on surface preparation contact your closest Midas Earthcote store.

For previously painted surfaces:
Spot priming with Midas Masonry Primer may be necessary on raw and patched plasterwork.

For previously painted surfaces that are powdery:
Clean with a high pressure water-jet, allow to dry and then apply 1 coat of Midas Masonry Primer prior to painting at the stipulated spread rates.
Allow to dry before overcoating.

For sound unpainted plaster:
Need not be primed prior to painting.

Friable newly plastered surfaces:
Clean and remove all friable materials and prime with 1 coat of Midas Masonry Primer prior to painting at the stipulated spread rates. Allow to dry
before overcoating.

Dampening surfaces:
All new or previously painted concrete, masonry and plastered surfaces must dampened prior to application of Earthcote Tradition.

Coatings
Thoroughly stir and apply 2 coats of Earthcote Tradition to prepared surfaces using a block brush at the stipulated spread rates. Allow to dry before
over-coating. The best application results are achieved with the block brush using criss-cross or vertical strokes.
Should thinning be required only use clean water. The entire contents of the container must be used immediately as the hydration process of the
cement will cause the product to thicken.

SPREADRATE

4m/litre/coat

NOTE: The spread rates quoted are approximate and should only be used as a guide as the actual rate will vary depending on the condition
and porosity of the substrate.

OVERCOATING TIME

> 6hours

NOTE: It is very important that over coating times, as set out for the various products, are adhered to and also that the prevailing weather conditions
are taken into account. Ambient and substrate temperatures, humidity and wind etc. can influence drying times of all coatings. Performance
problems can occur if any of the previous coats have not been allowed to dry properly before being overcoated.

IMPORTANT: To prevent surface contamination, coatings must not be left longer than 48 hours between coats. If environmental or
weather conditions have caused surface contamination, all surfaces must be thoroughly washed down before applying the next coating.

PREVENTING PROBLEMS AND GENERAL INFORMATION

IMPORTANT: The ambient temperature must not be below 10C and not higher than 35C. Humidity must not be below 10% and not higher
than 85%. Walls should be dampened in hot and windy conditions.

Keep a wet edge at all times otherwise dry lines will be evident.
Imperfections are more easily hidden by using criss cross strokes.
Even if coating over a previously painted surface, it is also necessary to dampen the surface before the application of the first coat of
Earthcote Tradition.
Earthcote Tradition is a cement-based product, and will harden very quickly.
Do not add the remains of a previous mixture to a new mix, as this will cause the paint to dry off-colour.
Earthcote Tradition should never be re-applied to areas which are not completely dry.
The application method should be selected at the outset, and adhered to throughout the application.
Earthcote Tradition splashings on footpaths, brickwork, timber etc. should be removed immediately.
Always work on walls that are in the shade.
On hot, dry or windy days the surface may have to be re-dampened during application.
Walls can be dampened by mist spray with a hose or using an ordinary clean paint roller dipped in water.
Earthcote Tradition is generally made to order, ten days lead time must be allowed for the execution of any orders.
Shelf life - 6 months. Store in dry conditions.
Newly plastered surfaces are often crazed. To test for crazing, first dampen wall with a jet of water from a hosepipe. Water will enter
the fissures and crazing will be clearly visible. This same mirroring effect will be visible once the Earthcote Tradition is applied.
Earthcote Tradition should only be applied once all building operations have been completed to ensure a uniform finish.
Earthcote Tradition cannot be touched up. Similar to any other textured coating, touching up successfully is almost impossible. If touching up is
unavoidable it must be carried out from one clear cut off point to another. Even so, like any textured coating, this will create an area of greater
coating density and therefore colour variance may result unless skillfully applied.
If plaster patching occurs after the application of the first coat of Earthcote Tradition, then spot prime the patched area with 2 coats of Midas
Masonry Primer prior to the application of the first coat over the patch. Then the second coat must be applied uniformly to the entire surface.
If rain or excessive dew occurs before the Earthcote Tradition has cured, the coating will effloresce and turn white.
Weather patterns are predictable, please check before application. If severe, the area will need to be brushed down thoroughly and then re-coated
(A jet of water under light pressure might suffice however).
Streaking will occur below exposed tops of walls and will be more prevalent on darker colours. This is particularly noticeable if dew or rain occurs
soon after application.
Dirt and dust collecting on top of exposed walls are washed down the face of the wall and will stain the surface.
Boundary walls are particularly subject to streaking. Similarly dirt collecting on sills will streak down walls.
The effect created by it streaking is often desirable and enhances the ageing process.
Please adhere strictly to the manufacturers detailed instructions for mixing and application of Earthcote Tradition.
IMPORTANT: All tops of exposed walls, sills, mouldings and any other exposed horizontal surfaces must be weatherproofed/waterproofed with
a suitable Midas weatherproofing/waterproofing system to prevent moisture or water penetration into the substrate.
Tops of exposed walls, sills, mouldings and other exposed horizontal surfaces must slope to prevent any ponding of water.
If Earthcote Tradition has to be use on vertical areas (e.g. tops of gable end walls, parapet walls, garden walls, screen walls etc.) Midas Cemproof
must be added to the Earthcote Tradition. The Earthcote Tradition coating must also be sealed after application using a suitable sealer to help to
seal the surface against moisture penetration as well as retarding streaking and staining.
A WORD OF CAUTION : Avoid ingestion, skin and eye contact. Wear eye protection and rubber or synthetic gloves. In case of eye or skin irritation,
flush with cold water for 15 minutes. If swallowed do not induce vomiting and seek immediate medical attention.

Suggested weatherproofing methods for tops of exposed walls, sills and mouldings:

Using the Midas Fibreforce, Midas Fibrflex or the reinforced Midas Midaflex weatherproofing/waterproofing systems using a finishing coat the colour
to match the Earthcote Tradition as it is not recommended to use Earthcote Tradition on horizontal surfaces.
NOTE : The laps of the reinforcing membrane will show through on the Midaflex system.
Apply the reinforced Midas Cemproof System followed by the Earthcote Tradition coating and a suitable sealer.
NOTE : The laps of the reinforcing membrane will show through on the Cemproof system.

GENERAL NOTES :

Weatherproof high binder content ensures durability.
Superb adhesion due to synergistic effect of polymeric and cementitious binder system.
High abrasive resistance due to top quality binder and high percentage in formulation.
Light fast pigments result in the coating maintaining the attractive appearance of the newly applied product year in and year out.
Tough silica aggregates gives the coating a superior balance between strength and durability.
Easier to apply than powder-based coatings.
