A tremendous amount of information has been accrued over the weekend and, candidly, it is difficult to
discern what should be prioritized; therefore, the data are provided en-masse [initially] regarding issues
that have been categorized and about which the hyperlinks require no additional commentary [beyond
points made previously]. Thereafter, key-concerns about which color-commentary is indicated, are
conveyed in a subsequent Blast e-mail. The topics included herein are as follows: Levity, Illegals,
Harrisburg, Foreign Affairs [Islamism, Iraq, Israel, Russia, China, Venezuela, etc.], and Domestic Policy
[EPA, IRS, VA, ObamaDontCare, Economy, Guns, etc.]. One overall point is pivotal, regardless of the
issue and its associated politics: this nation is based on rule-of-law, and no one is permitted to fail to
enforce it [regardless of whose actions are ignored, in any given locale], so neither Illegals nor gun-
owners should be given a pass by claiming any type of discretion [administrative/prosecutorial].

This is also why AG-Kane abrogated her oath when she invoked discretion when failing
to defend DOMA. Illustrative of this duty is the decision of the SCOTUS to hire a lawyer
to argue the Individual Mandate in ObamaDontCare was a tax rather than a penalty
[on that fateful March Monday Morning] when BHO had refused to permit his Solicitor
to do so *noting, also, that this was the pivotal component of Roberts decision, as
fatally-flawed as it was due to its violation of the Origination Clause]. {Also note that the

This rule-of-law issue animates Boehners impending litigation which Obama ignored ['I'll keep taking
actions on my own' and Obama: 'I'm Just Going to Make It Up As I Go Along'], the White House Press
Secretary belittled ['Were Not Just Going To Sit Around And Wait' For Congress To Write Laws] and
Dems were unable to defend [Chris Wallace Confronted Dem Congressman On Obamas Executive
Actions: Is He Rewriting The Law?]; thus, McConnell correctly predicted 'Imperial President Obama'
Won't Be Humbled By SCOTUS NLRB Ruling and Jeff Sessions said Obama 'Should Be Shamed' by
Unanimous SCOTUS Rebuke, despite the fact that DURBIN LIKENED GOP LAWSUIT AGAINST OBAMA TO
LINCOLN'S CIVIL WAR STRUGGLES. Indeed, a Liberal Law Professor characterized Obama as The Very
Danger The Constitution Was Designed To Avoid and, as a result, Half The Nation is Calling For a
Convention of the States To Stop Obama. {Also, Krauthammer said, If BHO Were Republican, he

out-in-force on MSNBC [Melissa-Harris-Perry: GOP-Want-To-Humble-Uppity-Obama].

A Montana newspaper [The Billings Gazette] that endorsed President Obama over John McCain in 2008
(but went with Romney in 2012) admitted 'We Were Wrong' because Obama is Worse than Bush;
apparently, the potential collapse of Iraq (and the disastrous consequences sure to follow) was the last
straw. One cannot, however, conclude that such recognition has influenced the mainstream media
noting, for example, that oreilly used MRC Stat to Show the Liberal Media is 'Subverting American
Democracy'; CBS Finally Covered House Speaker's Lawsuit Against Obama Administration [spending
seconds, NBC spending minutes, ABC not bothering at-all+. Thats why DRUDGE said the News business
is 'psychotic' during a RARE INTERVIEW ON WTOP. ,Note that FNC isnt immune from scrutiny, as Phone
records of IRA terror informant went to NEWS INTERNATIONAL provoking more questions for Murdoch.}

Far too many Americans see no shame in living on government assistance or scamming
the system; the Lefts campaign led by the Obama Administration to instill an
entitlement mindset in many has proven successful. But Americans are getting sick of
seeing taxpayer dollars abused through welfare, and states are adopting measures to try
to deal with the waste and fraud in the system. Louisiana Just Banned Welfare Benefits
for Tattoos and Bling. In Florida, the legislature passed a bill criminalizing welfare
fraud. In Mississippi, their state senate just gave the stamp of approval to a bill that
would require drug testing of welfare recipients deemed likely to be substance abusers.

The disruption of unlimited demand but limited supply affects everything, not just ObamaDontCare;

What must be appreciated is the fact that Rush Limbaugh Was Right; For Liberals In And Out Of Media,

Megyn Kelly Utterly Destroyed Obama. Essentially, the tremendous number of hyperlinks reflects how

American troops are getting Ramadan training in Bahrain [but the Military Bans Bibles But Forces
Soldiers to Adhere to Ramadan Rules], the subjugation of "dhimmitude" has begun, in furtherance of
the lefts-war-on-moderate-muslims and islamophobia. {Also, reacting to the Mindblowing Dhimmitude
of the Presbyterian Church, BHO was silent while BB gave them the diplomatic finger.}


Iraq

As the Al-Qaida breakaway formally declared its Islamic State, the adverse-effects upon America are
being experienced acutely [Gasoline prices continue to climb] and chronically [the Crisis in Iraq Puts
Americans at Risk of Terrorism]; meanwhile, Archbishop & 20 Priests Remain After Iraqi Christian Town
Evacuates, prompting Iraqi Christians to exclaim that the 'US Must Act Now to Stop Religious Genocide.'
In addition, there is direct involvement of Iran [which Surged Forces in Iraq and Plundered Opposition
Camp] and Russia [First batch of Russian jets arrives in Iraq]. Yet, the reaction to these events in Syria
and Iraq remains a 'Yes, Prime Minister' Foreign Policy of the West [from the hit British political sitcom],
as noted by those notoriously hawkish hacks at the Washington Free Beacon. {Finally, US Now Flying
Weaponized Drones over Baghdad.}

As the Iraqi Military is Fighting to Reclaim Tikrit from ISIS, it has been predicted that ISIS
Won't Take Baghdad. As it solidifies gains, it is promoting a softer, almost philanthropic
image of their jihadist cause on the internet; yet, ISIS [Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham]
is Conducting Mass Executions, Throwing Iranians Over Cliffs in Syria, having committed
War Crimes in Tikrit, Iraq. ISIS is also Kidnapping and Brainwashing Children to Use as
Suicide Bombers and Chechnian snipers who have been turned into professional killers
during the war in Syria have now been stationed in Iraq to fight the Iraqi people.

Recalling the fiction that American influence in the Middle East was what was driving recruitment to
radical groups, the above successes has prompted ISIS Influence to expand with Saudi and Indonesian
Nationals; to edge closer towards Jordan and SAUDI ARABIA [whose ARMED FORCES are ON HIGH ALERT
AS ISIS APPROACHES; to Openly Operate in Gaza [Flags Seen Waving at Funeral (VIDEO)]; and to Edge
Closer to Israel [noting that Former National Security Council director Yaakov Amidror said Israel needs
to be prepared to assist Jordan in fighting off ISIS]. {Blatantly, ISIS invited the ARGENTINE SOCCER
SUPERSTAR LIONEL MESSI to 'JOIN THE JIHADIST CALL.'}

As Israelis banded together over their kidnapped boys, the worlds silence was deafening, although PM
Netanyahu Received a Letter from Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan Condemning the Abduction of
the Three Youths and Demanding Their Unconditional Release [perhaps due to Israeli assistance with
the kidnapping of the schoolgirls last month and noting Islamists torched churches and killed scores in
Nigeria yielding DOZENS' DEAD AS BOKO HARAM SACKS CHURCHES IN CHIBOK]. In America, Susan Rice
Finally Weighed in on Kidnapped Israeli Boys While Obama Remained Silent; characteristically, Sen. Ted
Cruz said the Full weight of the world should bear down on Hamas until they return kidnapped Israeli
teens. In addition to mass-arresting Hamas members and announcing Israel has in custody two prime
suspects in teens abduction, ISRAEL NAMED TWO HAMAS TERRORISTS SUSPECTED IN KIDNAPPING OF 3
TEENS [who are all in-hiding]; also, following the Abduction of the Teens, the Israeli Embassy Released a
Study on Hamas Kidnapping Handbooks.

The Kidnapping has been placed into a context including the Settlements and History.
As the second week of the ordeal of the three Israeli teens kidnapped by Hamas
terrorists begins, there were few signs, other than yesterdays announcement of the
names of two suspects, of progress in the search. But the indifference of much of the
world to the abduction stems from the fact that the yeshiva to which the trio was
hitchhiking is located in the West Bank settlement of Kfar Etzion. But, as historian Benny
Morris noted this week in Tablet, the notion that a resident of this community is an
illegal settler contradicts history.

To most Westerners, the West Bank is a place where illegal Israeli colonies have been
planted among Palestinians in order to rule over them. That this territory is the heart of
the historic Jewish homeland to which Jews have legal, religious, and moral claims is
something that is almost never discussed. But even if you wish to ignore the fact that
the West Bank is merely disputed territory where both Jews and Arabs have valid claims
rather than occupied Palestinian land, it is not possible to classify Kfar Etzion in that
manner.

As Morris writes, the existence of what is known as the Gush Etzion bloc of settlements
south of Jerusalem on the road between Bethlehem and Hebron predates Israels War
of Independence. When war broke out in 1947 after the Arabs rejected the United
Nations partition of the country into Jewish and Arab states, the Etzion bloc came under
siege from Arab gangs and eventually the Arab Legion, the Transjordan army
commanded by British officers.

As referenced above and detailed by Caroline Glick, there is increasing Recognition of Jewish indigenous
rights to Eretz Yisrael. Fortunately, BB remains focused on its existential-threat; Israel stepped-up its
campaign against 'bad' nuclear Iran deal, and it was noted that U.N. experts traced recently-seized arms
to Iran and concluded, therefore, that Iran had violated the embargo.

The Lefties remained relentless, not dissimilar to BHOs posturing. Robi Damelin of
Parents Circle, a terror victims organization, cried-out for sanity and the curbing of what
she referred to as the repeated call for vengeance (Break the cycle, we beg of
you, Times of Israel, June 24, 2014). She asked for more reconciliation, more dignity,

planes in an apparent rebuke of the United States, which Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki
accused of being too slow in sending military aid.
Ukraine: Ukraine's president and his Russian counterpart talked with EU leaders to discuss a
settlement to the crisis in Ukraine's east as clashes between separatists and government forces

recently interviewed regarding the Kurdish Engine of Middle Eastern Democracy [with the translation

Overall, Kurds See a Silver Lining in Iraq Cataclysm, for at least the Kurds in Northern Iraq are fighting
ISIS! The Kurds know they are screwed if ISIS takes over completely and know they cannot depend on
the Iraqi Army in the slightest to defend them. The Kurds have eked out an existence in the region for
centuries and they are not about to give up now. Thats why a Kurdish unit [which appears pretty well
trained and using what looks like U.S. equipment] took-out an ISIS position in Kirkuk during a night raid.

Pennsylvanias New Mandatory Holocaust Education LAW

Before delving into what has transpired during the past three days, it is desirable to emphasize the
importance of oversighting the process of educating youth; critics are worried, both with regard to
public education [American students learn about Hamas and Hezbollah without being told they are
terrorist entities and college [rot of intolerance at Swarthmore]; how this is happening has been detailed
in the book by Dinesh DSouza on America which, specifically elucidates how Bill Ayers became an
educator, observations that are particularly relevant tonight [after Former Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers
was interviewed by Megyn Kelly] when one tries to appreciate how very anti-American BHO has been.

As usual, central to these concerns is Common Core [Oklahoma GOP Rep. claimed
Common Core Is Indoctrinating Kids With Socialism; National Association of State Boards
of Education Sued OK Over Common Core Repeal; Battle Continued Between Louisiana
Gov. Jindal and State Superintendent over Common Core Exit; Connecticut Gov. Malloy
Moved Forward with Common Core, Saying Teachers Support Initiative; Common Core
Critics Speak Out in Texas; POLL: PUBLIC OPINION TURNS AGAINST COMMON CORE... IN
CALIFORNIA!; and a Common Core Sample Lesson Teaches 'Evolving Nature of the
Constitution.'

The phrase Have you no shame? was first uttered six decades ago to expose McCarthyism, but
applicability to events that transpired over the weekend seems apt; in an unprecedented editorial move,
a Comment by Laura Goldman was supplanted after I exposed its pervasive errors, parsing it line-by-line.
Indeed, her second posting was also in-error; there is no button offered to the public to alter what
he/she had posted, let alone remove it. Thus, she must have received the connivance of a powerful
member of the editorial staff of the Jewish Exponent; it would seem the goal was to rescue the actions
of the Federation [and its Harrisburg lobbyist] from being exposed as being rankly hypocritical.

{Because the letters are printed with the most-recent atop its predecessors, I wrote a
series of comments separately, and then posted them in reverse-chronological order;
this allows the reader to read down the page, rather than having to skip-around.}

This is what she initially posted:

Every sentence in the entry by Ms. Goldman is in-error; I cant figure-out which is worse,
her narrative or the journalistic deficiencies of Mr. Berger.

I painstakingly explained what transpired in two dozen entries, uploaded previously;
they are replete with hyperlinks that elaborate upon the blow-by-blow which occurred
during the past - year.

Although I had resolved to depend upon others to correct the record, I have been
prevailed upon to recapitulate key-clarifications that are necessary to weighand then
to consider the implications of the mendacity that has been evinced.

In the process of parsing the entry of Ms. Goldman, errors in the piece by Mr. Berger will
become glaring.

Had these individuals not been aggressively and tenaciously opposed by Ms. Rhonda
Fink-Whitman and Mr. Chuck Feldman [and myself], a bill would have been passed that
would not have included a [delayed] mandate.

Thats right, absent from both this piece and this comment is SPECIFIC reference to the
fact that a mandate will be triggered if at least 90% of the schools do not voluntarily
comply within two years.

What is particularly appalling is that both know better; I spoke extensively with Ms.
Goldman in January regarding this particular concern; also, I spoke forcefully [nose-to-
nose] with Mr. Berger a few weeks ago @ the Federation, prompting him to correct the
aforementioned articlewhich he had to compose thrice before it approximated the
truth.

Ms. Goldman attempts to perpetuate the fiction that we were abusive while
communicating with Harrisburg legislators, absent any documentation; indeed, Mr.
Berger was confronted when he wrote of this accusation but, sadly, he not only could
not provide specifics, but he also did not wish to attempt to research this issue.

Essentially, Ms. Goldman is issuing an accusation that Mr. Berger has, journalistically,
refused to scrutinize; it is most decidedly falseand they know it.

The proof that we were not overzealous is in the pudding because of the inclusion
of the [delayed] mandate. We refused to compromise on our principles, but we had
no problem with the final language because it found common-ground.

Ms. Goldman doesnt recognize the irony embedded within her assertion, because our
fear was that the Federation lobbyists preferred not having a bill passed [anticipating a
Democrat governor in 15+ than having an immediate mandate included; this is proven
by noting what Mr. Butler wrote and said.

Mr. Butler sent to all Senators [after we had prevailed upon the Senate Appropriations
Committee to do-the-right-thing] in which he strongly advised our efforts be reversed.
Also, Mr. Butler repeatedly was quoted in the Exponent issuing [unreferenced]
predictions that a mandate wouldnt be passed.

He was banking upon people depending upon his lobbying experience; we were
depending upon the legislators to recognize the urgency of this concern.

This bill is historic despite it not having a mandate; it is the first time the words
Holocaust education are enshrined in Pennsylvania statue.

This bill HAS a mandate *as detailed earlier+ and its historic nature is based upon the
fact that a fragmented statute has now been codified, for the unit of holocaust,
genocide and human rights violations will be ensconced within the curriculum.

Educating the legislators regarding this fact was complicated by the fact that two staff-
people [perhaps due to the prior lobbying of Mr. Butler] generated and refused to
correct a staff-memo regarding this issue; all members of the House Education
Committee had been informed falsely that this topic had already been covered in a
cursory fashion. Specifically, Messrs. Transue [who wrote the memo] and Miskin [who
refused to correct it] perpetuated a fiction that served the nefarious goals of Mr. Butler,
namely, to confuse the legislators.

We were forced to play whack-a-mole as the Federation lobbyists keep conjuring
roadblocks, the most notorious of which was that we were allegedly advocating an

unfunded mandate; this accusation was taylor-made for a GOP-controlled Assembly,
and undoing the damage constituted an ongoing task.

The law calls for a survey which will tell us which school districts are teaching the
curriculum; it also calls for an advisory panel to advise the Pa Department of Education
on appropriate Holocaust curriculum.

Ms. Goldman failed to explain the rationale for the survey, namely, to discern if there
has been sufficient compliance [and to scrutinize the lesson-plans employed]; again, this
is a key-feature to what has been enacted for, if there is insufficient voluntary
compliance [a concept that Mr. Berger totally ignored], the mandate kicks-in.

misinformed. The bill requires school districts to offer Holocaust education if a

Specifically, this unit SHALL be integrated within courses REQUIRED by the PDE.

Ms. Goldman would be best-advised [after having had her prior letter deleted over the
weekend] to follow the infamous adage advising someone who has embarrassed herself
to "stop digging."

In my view, my having assiduously functioned as a truth-squad has resulted in the revelation of the fact
that the Emperors and Empresses are sporting no clothingand know it. The intensity of the effort of
Federation to portray itself as having won was what drove posting of Ms. Goldmans initial Comment
andafter it had been promptly debunkedwas what prompted her incorrect posting this-a.m. Thus,
inexcusable it was [after so many prior errors] for a climactic news-article to eschew mentioning the

Regarding AG-Kanes report on the Sandusky investigation by Corbett, the fact that she misspoke
regarding whether the delay allowed the perpetrator to abuse more kids is tangential, for the major
concern is whether the delay was justified in conjunction with having so few investigators assigned;
indeed, its desirable to note the Mystery tip that broke Sandusky case, but its far more important to

gauge the accuracy of Corbetts incorrect claim *Gov: I've never condemned Paterno, 'never will'].
Therefore, I blogged heavily and repeatedly on the politics pa website detailing corbetts alleged refusal
to attack JoePa; the interested-observer is invited to read the comments in ascending order.

Of personal interest also, are Details of UPMC-Highmark deal; it may be recalled that I
tried legally to preclude the creation of Highmark, more than 15 years ago, only to be
rebuffed by AG-Corbett [during his first stint] after he reversed the decision of his
antitrust division; when I inquired of him regarding this issue during his gubernatorial
campaign [while he attended a picnic hosted by Rep. Curt Schroder], he said he did not
recall the details of the events [that, then, were a decade remote]. It is also worthy of
note that PinnacleHealth-Penn State Hershey is the new giant in PA.

After the budget has been signed-off, the only way Corbett can improve his polling [which dropped
precipitously from 2010 to 2012] will be to demonstrate legislative achievements that can be viewed as
fulfilling his campaign promises.

The GOP is the Party of Civil Rights, a fact that is lost after a half-century of media-indoctrination;
inasmuch as Blacks havent emerged from inner-city poverty, it has been posited that liberals should
stop trying to help black Americans. Part of this ongoing obfuscation is when three examples of
reverse-racism are noted, just in the past week: Typical-Liberal Whoopi Goldberg felt she could Silence
a Guest by Spouting [reverse] Racism; Charlie Rangel claimed the Tea Party Is 'Same Group' Of 'White
Crackers' Who Fought Civil Rights; and Spike Lee said America is addicted to violence fomented by the
NRA, Video-Games and John Wayne.

Disappointing when one recalls how he made-his-mark in City Council campaigning
against tobacco, Philadelphias Mayor claimed Young Black Men Are Not Responsible
For Their Actions; this contradicted sages such as Ben Carson, M.D. and Bill Cosby. Thus,
a commentator wrote: Michael Nutter is well, a nutter, which is Brit-slang for a crazy
person. Hey, at least he has that truth in labeling thing going for him. He penned a
piece for theHuffington Post today in which he exposes myths that are keeping young
black men from succeeding. Not only doesnt he disprove any myths, he essentially says
that black men are not responsible for their own actions and their only saving grace is
massive government intervention. Like I said: a nutter.

concludes that the basis for this critique is attacking capitalism; and posits that the

I have summarized less than 1/3 of the book, which everyone is invited to read and to
memorize, for the basic concepts in this book provide an appreciation of how BHO
continues to flood the zone with his radical, well-strategized and smoothly-

Tomlinson are said to be holding up the Senate's hybrid pension push, the PA House stalled pension
reform, sending a plan to committee; this was viewed as a DIGIROLAMO POWER MOVE but, regardless,
PA PENSION REFORM WAS DEALT A SERIOUS BLOW. [Know that 3 House Rs (from Southeastern PA)
voted 'no' on PA budget (Gene DiGirolamo, John Taylor and Nick Miccarelli).] The implications of this
impasse were experienced in Philly [PA Senate passes $2-pack Philly cigarette tax; Philly cigarette tax bill
heads to uncertain fate; Philly's request for school funding-cigarette tax adds to drama; Philly schools

Regarding the gubernatorial race, there is No coup de grce, as a new F&M POLL showed Corbett still
trails Wolf big; I blogged extensively on this issue on PoliticsPA within two seemingly-divergent contexts
[Budget and Sandusky]. Regarding the former, I elucidated why I was thrilled that corbett-refused-to-
sign-budget, citing increased recognition that Corbett is [finally] confronting the unions as they affect
the three major unfulfilled promises of 2010 [Paycheck Protection, Pension Reform, and State Stores].

The focus on the latter also was split between distilling the essential concern with Corbett and the level
of culpability of JoePa, noting that Penn State now leads US in reported sex offenses; ignored was the
fact that the DA ASSOCIATION HAS CRITICIZED KANE AND BACKED SANDUSKY PROSECUTORS because
[1]it is R-dominated and [2]it did not capture key-points unearthed in my analysis of available data.
It should be recalled that SARA GANIM of The Patriot-News first published of this scandal [3/31/2011]
{see p. 247 of the Moulton Report} and that JoePa provided an Interview Three Weeks Before Firing, and
know that PA court won't speed up Spanier lawsuit v. Freeh, based on the claim that there were
missteps in Freeh's PSU report [if, for no other reason, many key-people werent interviewed+. My view

paterno-should-be-condemned-for-his-conduct-concerning-the-sandusky-scandal; I showed why more
information must be weighed by factfinders before retroactively adjudging JoePa [noting the ~50-50
straw-voting split], and I distilled my two-year critique of Corbett thusly {see pp. 112-113}:

From May 2009 through early 2011, the Sandusky investigation was conducted largely
by three individuals, SDAG Jonelle Eshbach, Agent Anthony Sassano, and Tpr. Scott
Rossman.In 2011, after Michael McQueary was identified as a witness and after

the investigation increased significantly.Without the additional investigative resources,
the systematic canvas of Second Mile participants that led to the discovery of J.S.

Corbett to be done by more staff, starting after the case had been referred in 2009.

Regarding the murder of the three Israeli teens and their moving funeral, emotions are enhanced when
it is noted that Arabs stoned ambulances carrying corpses; NETANYAHU vowed 'Hamas will pay' and
Weighs strikes; predictably, Obama advised he Slow down [ignoring shelling from Gaza and not having
timed the provision of such even-handed advice when Israelis have been victimized+. Noting that
terrorism-strikes-at-children, the Recording Of Kidnapped Teen's Frantic Call To Police demonstrated the
children had been shot immediately after they Put Up a Serious Fight, information known three weeks
ago but withheld; this was predictable when no one claimed credit for the abduction and no
communicated ransom/swap offers. Israeli intelligence believes the Hamas cell that carried out the
abduction was run by a Hamas leader who lives openly in Turkey. My focus is to support institution of
the death-penalty in Israel and to help to expose BHOs Bias Against Israel, which has led to consist
adoption of policies whose effect is to make Hamas rule in Gaza easier; Secretaries Clinton and Kerry
insist the U.S. taxpayer should continue funding the Palestinian Authority even if it forms a "unity
government" with Hamas, for example. Meanwhile, Jewish-Lefties are beyond obnoxious; the NY-Times

The Obama Era and the Collapse of Trust in Our Governing Institutions

According to a new survey by the Gallup organization:
Americans confidence in all three branches of the U.S. government has
fallen, reaching record lows for the Supreme Court (30%) and Congress
(7%), and a six-year low for the presidency (29%). The presidency had
the largest drop of the three branches this year, down seven percentage
points from its previous rating of 36%.
These findings are a powerful indictment of the Obama presidency. But they are also
part of a broader, extraordinary collapse of trust in government weve witnessed during
the last 50 years.
After his landslide election in 1964, Lyndon Johnson proclaimed that Americans were
living in the most hopeful times in all the years since Christ was born in Bethlehem.
Not exactly.
In fact, in less than four years America lurched from one of our more tranquil political
periods to perhaps the most tumultuous since the Civil War. It happened in the blink of
a historical eye, and it was driven by a complex set of factors, some the result of public
policy and some not, but eventually the accretion heavily implicated government.
The public, especially young people, began to turn against the Vietnam War, to the
point that President Johnsonbattered and brokendecided not to run for reelection in
1968. Student protests spread, including onto college campuses. The nation was
convulsed during the struggle over civil rights, while cities burned in the aftermath of
the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Robert Kennedy was murdered just two
months laterand only five years after his brother was gunned down in Dallas. We
experienced the killings at Kent State and the March on the Pentagon, Woodstock and
Watergate, black power salutes in the Mexico City Olympics and violence at the
Democratic Convention in Chicago. Social pathologiesincluding crime, drug use, out-of-
wedlock births, those on welfare, and moreworsened. And trust in government eroded
at an extraordinary pace.
According to the Pew Research Center, in 1964, 76 percent of the public said they
trusted government in Washington to do what was right most of the time or just about
always. Just a decade later, the figure had fallen to 36 percent. By 1980, it dropped to 25
percent. In only a decade and a half, trust in government fell by 50 percentage points.
We have never seen anything quite like it.
While public trust increased during the presidency of Ronald Reagan (to 47 percent), it
dropped sharply following it. By the summer of 1994 public trust was at 17 percent, the
lowest recorded. Those figures fluctuated during the Clinton second term, falling to 24
percent during the run-up to the Clinton impeachment trial but rising to more than 40
percent by the end of the Clinton presidency (June 2000). During George W. Bushs first
term, public trust in government spiked to more than 60 percent in the aftermath of the

9/11 attacks. But by October 2008, in the midst of the financial crisis, trust was again
down to 17 percent.
This deep, durable unhappiness with government, and the longing of the public to once
again believe in it, was something that Barack Obama brilliantly tapped into during his
campaign for the presidency. The centerpiece of his run was not a particular policy; it
was the promise to elevate our political debates and restore government to a respected
place in our national life.
Yet here we are, in the sixth year of the Obama presidency, with the level of confidence
in his presidency (29 percent) lower than at a comparable point for any of his
predecessors and the ratings for the legislative and judicial branches at or near their
lowest points to date.
I cant say that these judgments are unwarranted. But Im not convinced that such
corrosive mistrust of our governing institutions is particularly good for our country,
either. In a free nation, massive distrust of our governing institutions is a self-indictment
of sorts. Government is, after all, the offspring of our own choice, in the words of
George Washington, who added it has
a just claim to your confidence and your support. Respect for its
authority, compliance with its laws, acquiescence in its measures are
duties enjoined by the fundamental maxims of true liberty.
Today respect for governments authority has never been lower, and the American
people cannot be happy with this state of affairs or with themselves. In the wake of the
Obama era, where expectations were raised to such dizzying heights, only to collapse
into ruins, the public will be understandably wary about the next person promising to
heal the planet and repair the world, who claims the power to halt the rise of the ocean
tides, who says that this time will be different than all the rest and declares that we are
the ones weve been waiting for. (To remind yourself of the stratospheric expectations
set by Mr. Obama, Id urge you to watch this short clip of Obama in 2008.)
Given where we are, it seems to me that the proper response from a Republican
candidate is not to celebrate in this distrust but to help correct it; to candidly and with
some sophistication explain why its happened and to show how a modern conservative
governing agenda (perhaps something along these lines) can help restore trust in a
responsible, limited government. With the Obama presidency lying in ashes, and with
liberalism itself terribly damaged, an opportunity exists. Who on the right will seize it?

Biden is NOT Vindicated on Iraq

Here is a terrifying, but oddly explanatory, opening sentence from the Sunday edition of
the New York Times on Iraq: From the first summer of the Obama
administration, Iraq has been considered Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.s account.
While giving such an important strategic portfolio to the man who famously is on the
wrong side of nearly every foreign-policy issue may not have been the best idea, the

article at first sounds like itll at least be a demotion of some kind. After all, a self-
declared caliphate is currently burning Iraq to the ground.
But no. Believe it or not, that sentence serves as the introduction to the Timess attempt
to claim that the current mess in Iraq is Bidens vindicationor at least the vindication of
his proposal in 2006 to divide Iraq into three pieces. The country currently looks headed
that way, goes the logic, and so perhaps Biden was right after all.
Wrong. Lets first dispense with the faulty logic employed by the Times. Just because
Biden suggested something that is now happening does not mean the United States
should have facilitated that outcome. There are various reasons for this, one of which
Christian Caryl reported a few days ago:
For the past 2,000 years, Iraq has been home to a distinct and vibrant culture of Eastern
Christianity. Now that storied history appears to be coming to an end. Even if the ISIS
forces are ultimately driven back, its hard to imagine that the Mosul Christians who
have fled will see a future for themselves in an Iraq dominated by the current Shiite
dictatorship of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, which enjoys strong support from Iran.
Its worth adding, perhaps, that Christians arent the only ones in this predicament. Iraq
is also home to a number of other religious minorities endangered by the countrys
polarization into two warring camps of Islam. The Yazidis follow a belief system that has
a lot in common with the ancient Persian religion of Zoroastrianism; about a half a
million of them live in northern Iraq. The Mandaeans, numbering only 30,000 or so, are
perhaps the worlds last remaining adherents of Gnosticism, one of the offshoots of
early Christianity. By tradition many Mandaeans are goldsmiths a trade that has
made them prominent targets for abduction in the post-invasion anarchy of Iraq. Losing
these unique cultures makes the world a poorer place.
Feeding Iraqs sectarianism meant obliterating in some cases its ethnic minority
communities. Thats what is happening now, and I dont think Biden or his staff wishes
they could take credit for it.
Now, theres an important distinction Biden makes: he insists he didnt want three
separate countriesa true partitionbut instead three semi-autonomous territories with
a central government. Yet a look at Iraq today tells you all you need to know about how
well the center could hold under such a federal system. What that division would do is
accelerate the disintegration.
Once you devolve power from the center and encourage sectarian division, that division
will only concretize leaving the federal center without enough enforcement power. A
federal system can thrive in certain conditionsBiden himself is currently vice president
of a federal republicbut one important condition is a commitment to a certain level of
nationalism. Iraqs borders never possessed the legitimacy such a state would need. The
legitimacy, instead, was held by sectarian loyalties.
Theres also more than a bit of irony in the supposed vindication of Bidens old idea.
The tone of the story is that if only we had listened to Biden, things might have been
different. But the story opens up by stating, explicitly, that we have been listening to
Biden all along. Iraq has been his portfolio. The truth is that neither of Bidens ideas

about how to solve the Iraq puzzle were good ones, and the current situation there is
demonstrating the failure of boththe failure of one leading to the failure of the other.
More than anything else, Iraqs dissolution is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The
Obama/Biden team was elected on a platform of ending Americas involvement in the
Iraq war as soon as the president could make the retreat happen. When that took place,
which was before it was strategically sensible, the fragile calm achieved but still being
secured when Obama came into office was lost. The administrations overall policy has
been disastrous, and that did not happen because no one took Joe Bidens advice.

Turkeys Last Chance?

Turks will go to the polls on August 10 to elect a new president, the first time that office
will be filled by direct election. This weekend, incumbent Abdullah Gl, a Justice and
Development Party (AKP) acolyte, has announced he will step down and the AKP will
determine its nominee on July 1. The partys nominee will likely be Recep Tayyip
Erdoan, Turkeys Islamist, corrupt, and increasingly authoritarian prime minister.
Rather than roll over and accept Turkeys slide into autocracy or kleptocracy without a
fight, the center-left Republican Peoples Party (CHP) and Nationalist Movement Party
(MHP) have nominated a joint candidate, Ekmeleddin hsanolu, the former head of the
Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Turkish history reflects the significance of
such a choice: For decades, the CHP and MHP were at each others throats. Gangs
affiliated with each targeted supporters of the other. The heightened political
polarization in Washington today is nothing compared to what the CHP and MHP
wrought. What happened in Turkey is as if Valerie Jarrett and Karl Rove suddenly
decided to mount a joint candidate against a greater threat.
I spent the last week in Turkey, talking to several CHP and MHP officials as well as
contacts who arent involved in politics about the hsanolu choice and Turkeys way
forward. Admittedly, many CHP and MHP members are uneasy: hsanolus credentials
are primarily because of his Islamic scholarship. While members bend over backwards to
say he is not an Islamist, he is far different from the typical CHP and MHP candidate, and
their respective bases suggest as much. Some outside the parties suggest that the
choice of hsanolu effectively acknowledges the end of secularism in Turkey, although
party leaders hotly deny this.
What there does appear to be consensus about, though, is that an Erdoan presidency
will permanently end the Republic of Turkey as anyone knows it. Erdoan is increasingly
blunt in his desire to remake Turkey and Turkish society, hence his declaration that We
will raise a religious generation. Some politicians even suggest Erdoan sees himself
more as a caliph responsive to the Islamic umma (community) rather than simply a
leader for Turks. The autocracy under which Turkey now suffers was reflected in the
debate about which Medvedev might succeed Erdoan as prime minister.
If Erdoan wins the presidencyeither in the first round on August 10 or, if he receives
less than 50 percent, in the second round on August 24then Turks believe he will
increasingly rule as a dictator, remaking the once more ceremonial presidency even as

his old party withers under his thumb or falls apart. Indeed, given accusations that the
AKP has fiddled with ballot boxes, some Turkish politicians suggested that Erdoan
would automatically gain a fraud bonus of perhaps five percent, which the opposition
will have to overcome.
Under Erdoan, Turkey has shifted its diplomatic posture away from Europe and toward
the Middle East. Rather than even align with the more secular dictators of the Middle
East, Erdoan has aligned instead with religious radicals, whether in Qatar, the Muslim
Brotherhood, or Hamas. Elections matter. But after 12 years of electoral wins, the
August polls might mean the end of meaningful elections in Turkey, for an Erdoan
victory would likely mean years more of using the institutions of state to attack anyone
in politics, business, or society who dares to stand in his way.

It is first desirable to provide some levity [sleight of hand], to reference two pet-topics [gun-laws and the
Mandatory Holocaust Education Law], and then to recapitulate issues involving foreign policy
[particularly on the Middle East, as usual] and domestic policy; thereafter, the repeatedly-deferred
discussion of politics is to be probed, focused on how the GOP could optimize midterm performance.

Regarding gun-laws, it is claimed in THE ATLANTIC that DOCTORS are the MOST QUALIFIED TO DECIDE
WHO'S FIT TO CARRY A GUN, emphasizing the doctors role-in-stopping-gun-violence. It may be recalled
that I feared this could emerge following publication of sub-optimal gun-themed articles in the academic
literature, and this is what had prompted me to write a letter-to-the-editor [recently published in the
Annals of Internal Medicine] intended to warn against efforts to invoke faulty medical studies to justify
enhancing gun-confiscation laws. [In the process, I debunked both an allegedly-scientific review and an
accompanying editorial; neither author refuted the observations I had made.] Therefore, the reader
should be forewarned against efforts to politicize the sacred patient-doctor relationship. {Also noted is
the fact that a Man is Suing after he was arrested for Legally Carrying a Gun in Connecticut.}

Regarding the Mandatory Holocaust Education Law, it was again necessary to correct-the-record being
generated by the Jewish Exponent; in the process, hyperlinks were used to skewer [justifiably] defenders
of the Federations dogged lobbying *statewide and, sadly, locally] in opposition to the Mandate.
Indeed, when railing against the dissemination of misinformation [in both the articles and Comments],
some suggested gently that [when uploading a bunch of 12-line comments, abiding by the posting limit]
I was perhaps becoming a bit overbearing; publication of two articles by national-entities illustrates
precisely why I had painstakingly prioritized avoidance of unfortunate outcomes. Although one article
was just-fine [JNS+, one wasnt *JTA]; the former contained original scholarship, whereas the latter
simply lifted the first few graphs from the original online article [which has since been supplemented
following dissemination of my strong protestations, vide infra]. Note how RFW provided a succinct
summary of the salient features of what occurred [to her for a year, for Chuck for two years, and for
myself during the past half-year]:

How unfortunate that the Jewish Exponent, week after week, chooses to confuse its
own readers by carefully wording its articles so that they dance around the issue of the
requirement. YES VIRGINIA, THERE MOST CERTAINLY IS A REQUIREMENT. This bill was a
compromise, It starts out as a "MAY" and ends in a necessary "SHALL." That's how it
passed unanimously. It seems as if the Exponent doesn't really want you to know that.
This same one-sided story has been cut, pasted, and virtually reprinted by the Exponent
over and over again for the last several weeks. This week they even plucked our photo
of Gov. Corbett from right off the blog at www.94maidens.com!

The Exponent's coverage of this bill has been lazy, blatantly biased, and irresponsible. If

that an attempt to indulge in "historical revisionism" has been thoroughly rebutted and rebuffed. Far

Nazi Germany [and elsewhere, prior thereto and subsequently].

It is necessary to document my concern regarding how the Exponent has been
[successfully] prevailed upon to alter the Comments section of this web-page.

One need only note the fact that all entries are timed [with the most recent atop, except
of a "reply" has been composed in-isolation].

Then note [assuming no one changes what i now see] that the first entry is by Ms.
Goldman [with its having supplanted the one that I'd trashed, line-by-line] and its
timeline is "June 29 at 8:05pm."


Then note that, except for reactions to a few comments, all other "fresh" comments are
posted in chronological order, as one ascends, with the most-recent atop [in this case,
this entry].

Therefore, clearly, her original entry was replaced, with the individual who did this
[having access to the Exponent and, thus, presumably an employee thereof] having
been so sloppy so as to have failed to place her "revision" in its proper location [i.e.,
AFTER the comments by myself that she was attempting to rebut, albeit without a shred
of justification].

I'm told by an individual who has known the innards of the Exponent for decades...that
this constitutes an unprecedented series-of-events.

An update on the pension crisis and state budget in PA

Governor Tom Corbett has fought hard over the past three and a half years to build a
stronger Pennsylvania that lays a solid foundation for our children and grandchildren. It
wasn't easy for Governor Corbett to stabilize things when he inherited a $4.2 billion
budget deficit from the previous administration, but that's exactly what Governor
Corbett did; he put an end to the reckless government spending practices that increased
taxes and created a weaker Pennsylvania.

Our Commonwealth has come a long way under Governor Tom Corbett's leadership.
Unemployment has gone from 8.2 percent the day he was elected to 5.6 percent today -
a five-year low. Our state has also created over 175,000 new private sector jobs and we
now have more people working in the private sector than at any other point in state
history. That's a stronger Pennsylvania.

Unfortunately, our state is facing a pension crisis that threatens to destroy the
financial stability of our state. If we do not address this crisis, it would be catastrophic
to the Pennsylvania taxpayers. Consider these sobering facts on our state's pension
crisis:

Within four years, our pension liabilities will be twice the size of our annual state
budget.
For every new dollar of revenue generated in Pennsylvania, $.60 cents goes to new
pension liabilities.
If we do not act to address the pension crisis, the Commonwealth faces a potential
credit downgrade, driving borrowing costs higher, and further straining future budgets.
Pension costs are also a major cost driver for local school districts and has led to
increasing property taxes.

Governor Corbett has repeatedly sounded the alarm on the need to address this crisis
and has encouraged the state legislature to include meaningful pension reform as part
of their 2014-2015 state budget agreement. Unfortunately, the legislature has failed to
address this critical issue. Governor Corbett is committed to working with the
legislature to pass a meaningful pension reform bill, and has decided to withhold his
signature from the budget, as he reviews its impact on the people of Pennsylvania.

Governor Corbett means it when he says that he didn't come to Harrisburg to make
friends - he came here to build a stronger Pennsylvania, and that is what he's fighting for
each and every day.

The Supreme Court ruled Monday that the government's contraception mandate as

Restoration Act, which was signed into law by Bill Clinton in 1993. The Court held that
the government could provide coverage for contraceptives and abortifacients without
forcing Americans, like the Christian family that owns Hobby Lobby, to violate their
sincerely held religious beliefs.

battle in order to survive. We dont. We only have to survive as an army in being. We will pick off
incumbents (Cantor and Bennett) and prevent the elevation of establishment cronies (Dewhurst and
Crist) and we will bleed them on a hundred battlefields in a war of attrition. The loss to senile adulterer
Thad Cochran {if it is not overturned} will be seen in retrospect as the time when the tide began to turn.
The GOP establishment had to spend millions of dollars and they had to illegally recruit Democrat voters
in order to haul Cochrans moldering, putrescent near-corpse over the finish line. One has to wonder
how many of their donors will pony up money in 2016 for another bloody round of primaries with the
presidency in the balance.

The Day the Establishment Died - The strategy used in the Mississippi Senate runoff revealed just how

With Email Newsletter Overload, the topic of todays Washington Free Beacon essay:

Ive got a little list, sang Ko-Ko in Gilbert and Sullivans Mikado. I have gotor, more
accurately, I am onabout 20 of them: Email newsletters to which I subscribe, and
which appear in my inbox throughout the day. How I made it through life without all of
these lists, which bring me the latest news on economics, politics, literature, foreign
policy, defense, and media, I do not know. I am not quite sure how I will make it through
life with them, either.

Email newsletters, an old-school artifact of the web that was supposed to die along
with dial-up connections, are not only still around, but very much on the march, writes
David Carr of the New York Times. And newsletters, in my experience, are not lone
wolves. They overwhelm. Carr says that MailChimp, a sort of postal service for business-
to-consumer emails, distributes more than 400 million of them a day. They all seem to
end up in my Gmail.
The newsletters march into ones inbox in platoons, in brigades, even divisions. Some
sneak in under cover of night, waiting to ambush a subscriber as soon as he awakens.
Others attack in a group formation, in the mid-morning, just when our subscriber
believes he has completed his pre-lunch reading. And still others wait until the
afternoon to pounce, unexpectedly, as our subscriber prepares to sip his afternoon
coffee in peace. By the time he is done reading all of his newsletters, is finished sorting
the missives into folders for future reference, our subscriber wonders how he has
managed to complete any work at all.

The best newsletters trick you into believing that the links and images and oddities they
contain are indispensable, pressing, absolutely required for a life of sophistication and
depth. And yet I find that I enjoy reading newsletters in inverse proportion to their
connection to my daily routine. The July 1 edition of the Writers Almanac, for example,
included a poem by Emily Dickinson, and stories about the creation of postal ZIP codes,
Walkman cassette players, and William Strunk, Jr.
I hadnt a clue that ZIP codes and the Walkman shared a birthday with Strunk, nor that
the French writer George Sand (1804-1876) produced more than 90 novels, 35 plays,
and a multivolume autobiography. Dazzled and humbled by her productivity, I am
nonetheless convinced that I could have spent my days happily ignorant of Sands
output. That didnt stop me, however, from clicking on the almanac as soon as it arrived.
Its one of my favorites.
My work would have been unaffected if I had ignored the picture of the solar flare to
which Micah Mattix, in his excellent literary newsletter Prufrock, linked in his July 1
edition. But studying the image of the suns corona as seen in ultraviolet lighta
swirling, dizzying, hallucinatory canvas of red, blue, greens, and purples that resembles a
gigantic, spherical lava lampwas more than a distraction. It was a pleasure, and not a
totally empty one. Procrastination through newsletter browsing can be edifying: How
else would I have learned that the sun regularly experiences solar indigestion, expelling
super-heated jets of plasma millions of miles into space?
As the day progresses, and I make my way through the columns of newsletters, the
charms of literature and the glories of the solar system give way to the minutiae of
politics. The political emails are dense thickets of bullet points and press clippings, of
poll numbers and ad expenditures. They never fail to darken my mood. I read them for
work, and it takes work to read them. A long-time subscriber to the Hotlines Wake-Up
Call!, I find it increasingly difficult to pay attention to items such asstop the presses

Scanning the political newsletters out of a sense of professional duty, I find my eye
being drawn to items unrelated to the campaign air war, web war, and ground
war. Jonathan Lasts great newsletter for the Weekly Standard is an unpredictable mix
of political and cultural analysis, noteworthy links, and passages from some of the best
writing to appear in the magazines pagesand I say all this free of charge. The Wake-
Up Calls trivia challenge, the This and That section of Mark Bednars entertaining
and informative Morning Buzz newsletter, the Top Tweets section of the PBS
Newshours Morning Line, and the cultural and personal asides in Jim Geraghtys
Morning Jolt are far more interesting than the dreary play-by-play of House
Republican caucus meetings and Chris McDaniel skullduggery, more worth ones time
than read-outs of President Obamas latest trip to Taylor Gourmet or Shake Shack or
Great Falls or the Georgetown Waterfront Park.

Newsletters are clicking, writes David Carr, because readers have grown tired of the
endless stream of information on the Internet. If readers are tired of infinite amounts
of reading material, they have a funny way of showing it. No one subscribes to just one
newsletter. My habit started in 2010, when I signed up for Thoughts from the
Frontline, a weekly newsletter of economic analysis by the investor John Mauldin, who
is in a state of constant motion, traveling to South America, to Europe, to Asia. When, in
one email, Mauldin recommended a second newsletter, Grant Williamss Things That
Make You Go Hmmm, I signed up for that, too.
Four years later, I seem to have replaced the endless stream of information on the
Internet with an endless stream of information in my inbox: In addition to the
newsletters I have mentioned, I receive emails from Israel Hayom, the Times of
Israel, TheTower.org, Tablet Magazine, Foreign Policy, Bill Kristol, Chris Stirewalt of Fox
News Channel, Real Clear Defense, the Wall Street Journals Political Diary, Politico
Playbook, Avik Roys Apothecary, Jason Hirschhorn, the Institute for the Study of War,
the Cato Institute, Lifenews.com, National Journals The Edge, Commentary magazine,
the 2017 Project, and, of course, the Washington Free Beacon. The Beacon also
subscribes to theSpike aggregation service, which sends me hourly updates on which
stories across the Internet are being shared the most. Hourly. Updates.
List, list, O list! cries the ghost of Hamlets father. So bad has my problem become
that, upon finishing Carrs piece, I promptly signed up for several of the newsletters he
recommended. I couldnt help it. The first of these new subscriptions arrived moments
ago. It is called 5 Intriguing Things, and is written by Alexis Madrigal of The Atlantic.
Seems promising. Especially promising, because it limits the number of intriguing things
to five.
The best newsletters are digital magazines. They contain a wide range of content, they
often have several departments, and the personality of their editor is apparent in every
aspect. Keeping this analogy in mind, I plan to cancel some of my email subscriptions
over the holiday weekend. Just as there is no reason to continue to receive a boring
magazine, there is no reason to keep collecting, and promptly deleting, boring
newsletters. The difference is that you can always let a magazine subscription lapse. Not
so with emails.

Suppose you and your family decide to celebrate the Fourth according to the old custom
this year, and at some point between the burgers and fireworks you gather everyone
together and read the Declaration of Independence out loud. Once you get past the
familiar openingWhen in the course of human events, etc.youll get into the list of
grievances against King George III, a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all
having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States.
Most of us are less familiar with this section, but the list follows a standard rhetorical
structure: it begins with the least severe crimes and gradually ramps up to the worst.
About two-thirds of the way down, youll notice a few injuries and usurpations that have
a certain resonance today, like imposing Taxes on us without our Consentthink
Obamacares individual mandate penalty, which was only construed as a tax by the
Supreme Court after the fact. The accusation that King George erected a multitude of
New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people should call to
mind the deliberate targeting and harassment of conservative groups by the IRS,
possible evidence of which was apparently lost when former IRS official Lois Lerners
computer crashed.
But pay close attention to one item a little further down on the list, about taking away
our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms
of our Governments. That one is especially germane. Earlier this week, U.S. Senator Ted
Cruz released the latest in a series of reports on the Obama administrations attempt to
expand federal power, highlighting a persistent pattern of lawlessness and a
willingness to disregard the written law and instead enforce policies through executive
fiat.
Cruzs report catalogs the administrations 20 unanimous defeats before the Supreme
Court during the past five-and-a-half years, a tally thats all the more striking for the
string of defeats it suffered in the Supreme Courts recently concluded term, including
rulings this week in the Hobby Lobby case and Harris v. Quinn. In a statement
accompanying the report, Cruz said the inescapable conclusion is that the Obama
Administrations view of federal power knows virtually no bounds.
Thats very much like the complaint Jefferson and the Founders had with King George. In
the spirit of the Declaration, the Cruz report lists some things the federal government
would be able to do had the White Houses lawyers won these cases:
Unilaterally install officers and bypass the Senate confirmation process (NLRB v. Noel
Canning);
Search the contents of cell phones without a warrant (Riley v. California);
Use international treaties to displace state sovereignty over criminal law (Bond v. United
States);
Expand federal mandatory minimum sentencing laws (Burrage v. United States);

Apply arbitrary immigration rules (Judulang v. Holder)
And the list goes on. Given the Obama administrations spectacular losses in court, one
could be forgiven for thinking that the president doesnt think much of altering laws
and fundamentally abolishing our forms of government. After all, thats been the
progressive project for more than a century. Woodrow Wilsonthe Founding Father of
American progressivism, if you willwas vexed above all by the Constitutions
separation of powers. For him, the maxims of the Founders were an impediment to
good governance and to truly democratic politics: The old political formulas do not fit
the present problems; they read now like documents taken out of a forgotten age.
One good thing about Wilson, though, was that he just came out and said exactly what
he thought. The Obama administration, in contrast, has tried to couch its effort to
dismantle the separation of powers in the language of the Constitution. In its brief

presidents 2012 recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board were
justified, and that disallowing such appointments would prevent the President from

the laws be faithfully executed, even when the Senate is unable, for a significant period
of time, to give its advice and consent to appointments.
The justices saw through this flimsy rhetoric and ruled unanimously that the president
had overreached. Even the New York Times recognized that the 9-0 ruling was
momentous, involving a constitutional adjudication of the balance of power between
the president and the Senate. In other words, it was a rare victory for the separation of
powers.

Israel should consider deporting rioters, perhaps c/w these sentiments:

This past month has made it very clear what Hamas' strategy is: taking over the
Palestinian Authority by entering into a unity government with PA President
Abbas, while capturing Palestinian hearts that brim with joy the moment they
hear about an attack by Hamas terrorists that left three Jewish youths dead.
Attempts to describe an imaginary situation in which the political Hamas is
separate from the military Hamas range from naive to pathetic. Israel must
strike while the iron is still hot and implement the most effective leverage of
deterrence: deportation. Deporting the Hamas terrorist infrastructure from the
West Bank to Gaza is a move that will create truly significant deterrence. As
someone who has seen this from up close for decades, I'm saying that a move
like this will have tremendous efficacy against terrorists and potential terrorists.

It is ominous that Palestinians in Gaza Fired 45 Rockets at Israel that struck a Day-Care Center; also, a
Sderot Family said It's a Miracle that We Were Saved. Thus, Israel Hit Gaza Targets in Response to
Rocket Fire and Israel Massed Forces on Gaza Border.

Obscene Rush to Judgment by Arlene Kushner

On Tuesday night, according to eye witnesses, a black car stopped near Mohammad Abu
Khdeir, 16, from the upscale Beit Hanina neighborhood of Jerusalem and then took off
with the boy inside. Some time later, the family reported him missing. By early
Wednesday morning, his burnt body had been found in the Jerusalem Forest area.

What happened next should not surprise us, as infuriating as it is: assumptions are being
made far and wide that this boy was killed by Jews in retaliation for the terrorist
murders of the three students. Unfortunately, we are seeing this even among some

Israelis, who, imagining themselves righteous people, are thumping their chests in an ill-
advised and premature mea culpa.

One of the most egregious of the accusations came from Secretary of State Kerry, which
should really, really not be a surprise. We know by now quite well who is our friend and
who is not. There is not even a pretense of evenhandedness. Rather, his bias is
exposed for all the world to see.

Yisrael Medad put out a comparison of what Kerry said after our boys were found dead,
and what he said now (with all emphasis from Medad):

Then:

The news of the murder of these three Israeli teenagers...is simply
devastating. We all had so much hope that this story would not end this
way. As a father, there are no words to express such a horrific loss that
shakes all people of conscience. We pray for these boys and their
families, and together we grieve with all of the people of Israel.
Knowing that Naftali was also an American citizen makes this an
especially heavy blow.

We condemn this despicable terrorist act in the strongest possible
terms. The killing of innocent youths is an outrage beyond any
understanding or rationale, and the perpetrators must be brought to
justice. This is a time for all to work toward that goal without stabilizing
the situation.

And now:

The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms the
despicable and senseless abduction and murder of Muhammad
Hussein Abu Khder.

It is sickening to think of an innocent 17 year old boy snatched off the
streets and his life stolen from him and his family. There are no words
to convey adequately our condolences to the Palestinian people.

The authorities are investigating this tragedy, a number of Israeli and
Palestinian officials have condemned it, and Prime Minister Netanyahu
has been emphatic in calling for all sides not to take the law into their
own hands.

Those who undertake acts of vengeance only destabilize an already
explosive and emotional situation. We look to both the Government of
Israel and the Palestinian Authority to take all necessary steps to
prevent acts of violence and bring their perpetrators to justice. The
world has too often learned the hard way that violence only leads to
more violence and at this tense and dangerous moment, all parties

must do everything in their power to protect the innocent and act
with reasonableness and restraint, not recrimination and retribution.

The difference in over-all tone between the two statements the far more passionate
distress when referring to the killing of the Arab boy is fairly obvious.

But what we must pay closest attention to are certain key judgmental words:
vengeance, destabilize, recrimination, retribution. He has Israel tried and convicted on
this, without evidence.

There we were, showing a nobility in our behavior with the funeral. But it wasnt
allowed to stand.

And naturally Abbas is referring to the murder of this boy as an Israeli war crime.

There will in the end be a final conclusion arrived at by the police, but my absolute
conviction is that he was murdered by Arabs. Allow me to share the evidence for this:

First, the body was burned. This is not the way Jews would operate.

Then, there is a report given by a senior former police officer that the family of the
boy was well-known to police sources. Its a problematic family with internal clashes
that have been going on for many years....I know the internal conflicts in that family,
and we need to wait and not rush to connect the murder of the Arab youth with the
abduction in Gush Etzion."

It is a misconception that the murder of three Israeli teenagers is
somehow unrelated to the new Fatah-Hamas "unity" government
established in early June.
Part of the agreement was that Hamas would be allowed to
operate in the West Bank - the kidnapping is an indirect consequence of
that provision. The newfound license for Hamas enshrined in the deal is
almost certainly what made this latest plot so tragically "successful."
Of course, the formal agreement did not explicitly condone
kidnapping or murder, but Hamas officially interpreted it as an opening
for militant activities of all kinds. The group's West Bank sympathizers
were newly encouraged to provide local cover, and mid-level PA security
officials suddenly became uncertain about where to draw the line in
preempting or thwarting Hamas operations.
Similarly, Abbas has proclaimed that his new government would
remain bound by the commitment to nonviolence against Israel. Yet
rockets keep raining on Israel from Gaza, and the PA - which is now
officially responsible for Gaza under the terms of the unity deal - has not
done or even said anything to stop them.
Washington would be on very firm ground in insisting that, as a
condition for continued U.S. aid and support, the PA must either act

unambiguously to end Hamas violence or dissolve its partnership with
that U.S.-designated terrorist organization.}

Palestinian Arab culture is clan-based. If you are interested in further information, to
help you understand what might be going on, you might want to see this:

Arab culture addresses security through balanced opposition in which
everybody is a member of a nested set of kin groups, ranging from very
small to very large. These groups are vested with responsibility for the
defense of each member and responsible for harm any member does to
outsiders. If there is a confrontation, families face families, lineage faces
lineage, clan faces clan.

There have been other suggestions that the boys murder may have been an honor
killing necessitated in the killers view by the fact that the boy is a homosexual, which
brings a shame to the family that must be rectified.

An honor killing is the homicide of a member of a family...due to the
perpetrator's belief that the victim has brought shame or dishonor upon
the family...usually for reasons such as refusing to enter an arranged
marriage, being in a relationship that is disapproved by their relative...or
engaging in homosexual relations. (Emphasis added)

Lastly, we have reports from several sources of conflicting information provided by the
mother and the father, including claims regarding an attempted kidnapping of the
boys younger brother some days before this incident. See, for example:

On Tuesday, police said, the mother called police to say that settlers
had tried to kidnap her younger son. She said that individuals had
stopped a car in front of her house where she was sitting with her son,
and that they tried to grab him. She managed to hold onto him, she
said, and they left, at which point she called police.

Officers arrived a few minutes later to take her statement, in which she
said settlers had tried to kidnap her son, but could give no details.
However, a few minutes later the father arrived, and he disputed his
wife, saying that it was Arabs who tried to kidnap the son.

Police asked the father if he was positive regarding the identity of the
would-be kidnappers, and he said he was. When they asked him to file a
police complaint, he said he would, but that he would come down to
the police station later on to do so in order to be able to comfort his
son. He never showed up, police said, who contacted him several times
asking him to file the complaint but to no avail.

The charge that Jews killed this boy has sparked severe riots in certain Arab sections of
Jerusalem in and near the Shuafat neighborhood and in Beit Hanina.

Rioters did damage to the light rail station in the Shuafat neighborhood and threw rocks
and homemade bombs at the police. Additional police forces had to be called out.

I pause here to point out the difference between the way we Jews responded to the
death of the three boys and the way Arabs are responding here. Unfortunately, this
difference will not be noted by mainstream media sources.

Jerusalem Councilman Aryeh King charged that the murder of the boy was planned to
incite unrest. I cannot speak to this, but what seems certain is that the fact of the
murder was used to inflame anger and promote rioting. Please note that the rioting is
making it difficult for the IDF to continue with its actions against Hamas in Judea and
Samaria something else that might well have been taken into consideration when the
unrest was fomented.

old Mohammed Abu Khedair in a Jerusalem forest. CNN reported, that Khedair was
heading from his home to a mosque in the middle-class neighborhood of Shoafat for
prayers around 4 a.m. when three men forced him into a car and drove off, according to
his father Hussain Abu Khedair. His burned remains were found an hour later. Who
were the three men who abducted and murdered Mohammed Abu Khedair is the
subject of investigations by Israels national Police. Moreover, why was the Jewish
Council compelled to issue this statement within less than 12 hours after news broke and
without any investigation by Israeli National Police?

As USA-Iran nuke-talks restarted, the ability to Elicit A Better Deal From Iran was felt to be elusive;
during a background briefing on the P5+1-Iran discussions by the U.S. State Department, two postures

My suggestion: Senators and Congressmen should force Obama to listen to the Israelis
who said in October 2013 that this is a BAD agreement and to resume the sanctions on

encounter would undoubtedly provide the stage for further US concessions if the
delegation wishes to come out with any sort of accord in hand."

leaders understand only force as "negotiation" is their strong weapon to get more and
more from the west without giving back anything.

For the first set, promoting Sen. Cruz and his linkage with Heritage Action [primarily, among the groups]
in defunding-efforts proved thematic; the pervasive action-item was simply to recruit adherents to
this activist perspective, as an outgrowth of the TEA *Taxed Enough Already+ Party Movement *TPM+.
In this regard, I organized [last fall] meetings of all local players on multiple national stages to challenge

grass-roots [of whatever ability to suck water and nutrients from the soil and to transmit same upwards
through a tree-trunk] are truly the only-game-in-town.

In many respects, I was writing to myself a form of a Twitter-Diary, in that I conveyed
impressions of lectures [for example] that most-others would not have attended; yet,
the details provide a roadmap as to how to become involved in [then to contend with]
the beauty of our system of government, that kids should learn [in Civics class, etc.].
But, alas, I was also writing to the proverbial Dem/Lib, who has been schooled in how to
heap scorn upon Sarah Palin and who viscerally fears the Pro-Life movement; here,
consternation has greeted the tentative conclusion that Im told Im simply unable to
feel with my brain and think with my heart. My rejoinder is that one usually does not
think-through issues by feelings, nor can one objectify ones emotions; regardless,
parallel with polls, most Dems [particularly Jews] are claiming that their ideology has not
been unduly besmirched by its faulty implementation by BHO and his cohorts-in-crime.
