generic configurations commonly called "9740 WAC" for WiMAX releases
W3MR1.
The following naming conventions are used in this document:
The Alcatel-Lucent 9740 WiMAX Access Controller will be later referred
as 9740 WAC, (former A9160 WAC)
The Alcatel-Lucent 9710 Compact WiMAX Base Station will be later
referred as 9710 C-WBS, (former A9116 WiMAX BS)
The Alcatel-Lucent 9753 WiMAX Operation and Maintenance Center will
be later referred as 9753 OMC, (former A1353WR OMC-R)
The WiMAX Access Control Server will be later referred as WAC.
The 9710 C-WBS refers also to 9715 Light WiMAX Base Station 9715 L-WBS,
(former A9117 L-WBS).

1.2 9740 WAC Cluster Basic Hardware Architecture
9740 WAC architecture is mainly based on cluster concept. WAC server linked
together and to same assembly of switches constitute a "WAC cluster".
Figure 1: General Hardware Architecture of the 9740 WAC Cluster
Note: For redundancy, WAC server have in fact Ethernet links connected to different
switches.
The Figure 1 shows the general architecture with redundancy links.
Without redundancy only one link of WAC is connected to each part of the
corresponding switch:
One link to WAC switch for 9710 C-WBS on the left side
One link to WAC switch for CN on the right side.
Note: For details regarding the HW used in this configurations see 9740 WAC
Cabinet Description.
10 / 36 3BK 21591 AAAA PGZZA Ed.12
1 Introduction
A WAC Cluster as a whole is made of WAC Servers and WAC Switches.
Switches in a standalone or a stack configuration, with regard to the Cluster
Configuration, are configured by the WAC Servers in a WAC Cluster. A WAC
Switch cannot be shared by 2 WAC Clusters or by any other equipment. All the
Switch ports are used and designed for a specific behavior as described in
the relevant documentation. Moreover, it is forbidden to launch on the WAC
Server any SW Application for which this equipment is not designed. Only HW
configurations defined in the relevant documentation are authorized.
3BK 21591 AAAA PGZZA Ed.12 11 / 36
1 Introduction
1.3 9740 WAC Basic Software Architecture
Figure 2: General Platform Software Overview of the 9740 WAC
The 9740 WAC Platform software internal structure covers the following parts:
OS Service Daemons The existing OS services that WAC can rely on.
They include:
HTTP server with security
SFTP server
SNMP daemon with security
SSH2 daemon in WAC.
Common Platform Service It defines the common service interfaces for
the upper layer 9740 WAC applications.
It covers the:
Buffer management
Timer management
Trace management
Inter-process communication management, etc.
The common service is provided as a library for the 9740 WAC application.
Equipment Management It is used to supply the WAC hardware
(DELL Servers) supervision and directs the hardware alarm notification to
the OAM-FM.
The OS Service Daemons covers the service provided by the OS (Linux).
They include the HTTP server with security, SFTP daemon, SSH2 daemon
and SNMP daemon (SNMP Master Agent daemon for WAC DELL Server HW
management). It is implemented by Net-SNMP v5.1.2 (included in RedHat
Linux ES4).

3.5.2 9740 WAC Rack to O&M Networks
The 9753 OMC has an interface with all WAC of the cluster (active and backup)
but there is no direct link to the 9753 OMC from WR02 rack. O&M data flow is
included in RAN link to external equipment.

4.6 Colocalized 9740 WAC-CN Rack WR03 Changed in Pure
9740 WAC Rack WR02
This section gives information about engineering rules when a colocalized
9740 WAC-CN configuration is dismantled to become a pure 9740 WAC rack
configuration for commercial operation.
Initial WR03 rack configuration CN elements are dismantled, HW
configuration of WR02 rack described in Section WR02 Rack HW Configuration
of Pure 9740 WAC (Section 3.2) is applied and configuration is changed in
WR02 9740 WAC rack configuration.
