Collecting

Definition:
Collecting is the information process that gathers data from some outside entity. Its purpose is to
provide data from the environment to other information processes within the information system
Navigation System:
For the navigation system on Weebly, collection of documents were needed. The documents needed
were study notes, a resume with school achievements, an explanation of the information processes
and the computer and non-computer used in the design of the system, a Gantt chart, an explanation
of how I developed the information system using the stages of system development and other
components or tools which will reflect my Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills.
The collection process is the main process that is used in the design of the navigation system as most
of the documents needed to be inserted into the make and design of the website or system. The
collection of data is important in the plan of the design of the system as it provides a basic
framework of what to do and what is needed to be done.
Two Collecting Process Examples:
One example of a process of collection used in my navigation system on Weebly is the collection of
my study notes. First the data is entered via a keyboard onto a Word Document and once finished, it
is then added as a document onto Weebly.
Another example of a process of collection used via Weebly is the collection of data and information
through various sources and this is shown through the collection of Technology Projects throughout
high school
Computer and Non-computer Tools:
Hardware used for collection involves a keyboard for collecting of text, a mouse for collecting
various media types and a laptop or a computer for collecting data.
Software is comprised of instructions that control the hardware and direct its operation. There are
two general types of software present in all computer systems; system software and application
software. System software included the operating system and device drivers for each hardware
device.
Software used for collection of data involves software that allow users that allow participants to
enter data (e.g. Microsoft Word). Some software that allows participants to import data includes
USB removable devices and web pages.
Commonly the source of data for collection into an information system is a non-computer source.
Some of these sources include literature searches, surveys and interviews, form design for data
collection, manual recording of events and existing non-computer data.
A non-computer source used in my Navigation system is the collection of school achievements.
Issues:
Social and ethical issues of particular importance during the collecting process are commonly related
to bias within the collection process, inaccuracy of the collected data, failure to acknowledge the
source of data, privacy concerns of individuals and ergonomics for data entry participants.
Bias is an inclination or preference that influences most aspects of the collection process. The result
of bias during collection is inaccurate data leading to inaccurate outputs from the system.
As the collecting process is where personal information first enters an information system or
navigation system in this cause, then it makes sense to consider specific concerns related to the
collection of personal information
