Why plan?
For the teacher
Gives your lesson a sense of direction
Gives a framework to the lesson
Helps you to think ahead
Helps you to anticipate possible problems sts might have
& to think of possible solutions to those problems
Gives you an overall sense of progress
Helps you to choose appropriate activities
Helps you to think about a variety and balance of
activities
Helps you to think about what both you & the sts will be
doing during the lesson
For the observer
Helps them to see what your aims are and how you plan
to go about achieving them
Helps them to see the thought process behind your
lesson
Helps them to follow the lesson while it is in progress
For the students
Gives them a sense of direction
Shows them that the teacher has thought about the
lesson
Gives them confidence that you know what you are doing
Helps them to see how all the parts of the lesson(s) fit
together
