Selection and adaptation

We had chosen the play The pencil by Ali Majod. =======synopsis of the
pencil==
This play introduces the characters that have their own significance in order to
give the impact of reading to the reader such as moral value and development of
cognitive. Zahid is the main character in the play. He is a poor student and he need to
work hard to fulfil his desire to buy a new pencil. He lives with his grandmother in a
small house. However, Zahid is being ignored by the teachers in the school except the
headmaster Mr. Berahim and he hopes the extra long pencil that he bought can attract
teachers attention to him. Next character is Dollah. He is a naughty student because
had stolen Zahids new pencil and acknowledge that is his pencil. Dollah will never
admit his wrongdoing and tricked Mr. Jamal to believe to his false statement. Next, Mr.
Jamal is a teacher who easily being fooled by Dollah and never checks the truth and
never gives his attention to Zahid. Setting in this play is mostly in school such as in
class and headmasters room.
Adaption that we want to add or apply in this play is Zahid actually misplaced his
pencil and coincidently Dollah also have the same pencil which his father bought for
him. So, the rebellious attitude that Zahid act is not worth it because eventually he is
wrong. Then, zahid asks forgiveness from everybody and Zahid and Dollah became a
good friend. Zahid also realized that before we do something further we should check
and investigate and do not jump into conclusion just like his case

JUSTIFICATION
Development of Cognitive
Based on the play that we had chosen, young learner can improve their
development of cognitive because this play exposed the importance maturity of thinking
skill and ways to motivate to achieve success. For example, when Dollah stole Zahids
pencil but acknowledge that is his pencil and Mr. Jamal punished the innocent person.
From the play, young learner can enhance their cognitive level because they can
analyse by themselves the consequences if we do bad thing and at the same time it will
affect innocent people such as Zahid. From this play young learner also can enhance
their maturity in making decision. For example, they can learn before we make a
decision we need to investigate to find the truth. For instance, Mr.Jamal just jump into
conclusion by punish Zahid because he believe to Dollahs statement and make the
wrong decision. This is unfair to zahid he he starts to become a rebellious pupils just to
gain teachers attention and to prove the truth. Luckily, Mr. Berahim try to interfere in
the case and the truth finally reveal. . This is parallel to Jean Piagets Theory which is
cognitive development is also influenced by interacting with people around us . so that,
the play can give them experience how to deals with the situation and this might be
happen in their real life, so, when they have maturity in making decision they will make
a correct decision.

learners life and they can implements the values forever. For example, they can learn
or gain value respect people from this play. For instance, they learn the value of respect
such as Mr. Jamal need to respect Zahid even he is just a student and as result zahid
and others student will respect him back. Plus, young learner can learn that the younger

need to think because every action will leads to different consequences such as Zahid
from a quite student become gangster and rebellious because did not satisfied with the
decision made by Mr. Jamal and trying to shows the protest. So that, young learner can
