Is your home starting to look a little
worn? Would you like to freshen it up but
dont have a lot of time or cash to spare?
No problem. Try these quick, inexpensive
fixes.
Paint.
Paint is one of the easiest, most inex-
pensive ways to spruce up a space. You can
paint almost any surface and achieve a vari-
ety of finishes using faux painting tech-
niques. And, you can paint as much or as lit-
tle as you would like. You can paint an
entire room, from top to bottom, or just one
wall for a pop of color. You can add a few
stencils on the stair steps or paint a win-
dowsill. The choice is yours.
Lighting
Lighting is another quick, easy update
that doesnt have to cost a bundle. You can
save on your utility bills, too, by installing
energy-efficient fixtures. Several stylish
options are available, and depending upon
your talents and skills, you might even be
able to convert something old like a bucket
into a fashionable light. New shades and
energy-efficient bulbs are other quick fixes.
Woodwork
Woodwork can take a real beating over
time, especially around doors and windows.
Take a look at your woodwork. Could it use
a little TLC? Clean and touch it up, or con-
sider replacing it. Trim is relatively inexpen-
sive, and with the right tools and knowl-
edge, very easy to replace. Want to really
spruce up your space? Add some crown
molding, chair rails or decorative appliqus.
Hardware
Hardware can easily be replaced.
Many styles are available, and some are
very inexpensive. For less than $50, you
can give your kitchen or bathroom a fresh
look with new pulls and knobs. New hinges,
handles and doorknobs are also relatively
inexpensive fixes. While youre at it, why
not replace the switch plate covers? Several
styles are available from the basic bright
white to shiny stainless steel. You can even
paint or wallpaper old covers.
Furniture
Furniture can easily be updated with
slipcovers, pillows and throws. But dont
stop there. Take inventory of your furniture.
Are there pieces you no longer need?
Could anything be repurposed? Clear out
what you dont need and give whatever
remains a facelift with paint, stain and fab-
ric. Make those old dining chairs new again
with a fresh coat of paint and reupholstered
seats. Polish up the table, conceal the
scratches with a stain stick, and youre all
set for your next dinner party. As you make
your way through other rooms, pay atten-
tion to the furniture arrangement. Could it
be better? Its amazing how much of a dif-
ference a simple change in the furniture
arrangement can make.
These are just a few strategies for spruc-
ing up your space on a shoestring budget.
There are many other quick fixes. You could:
Reface cabinets.
Install new faucets and toilet seats.
Replace appliance face panels.
Regrout tile.
Hang new blinds and drapes.
Switch out rugs.
Add some artwork and accessories.
Change out photo frames.
Roll out new rugs.
Bring in some plants and flowers.
And, dont forget the importance of a
good cleaning. Clearing away the clutter
and cleaning the space from top to bottom
can make it look like new.

WE WI LL BEAT
ANY ESTI MATED
PRI CE! ! !
Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter
Dear Dr. Winter, I have a slight under-bite,
otherwise, my teeth are actually quite straight.
I had braces on my top teeth at a young age
and as I grew up my under-bite worsened. This
under-bite has resulted in some unnatural wear
and chipping on a couple of my top teeth. Do
you have any non-surgery solutions available?
Dear Ted, there are many options for fixing
underbites that are non-surgical but I cannot
comment on your options until I have
completed an examination and x-ray visit.
Sometimes orthodontics can correct your
problem other times crowns can be used to
change your bite. So surgery is always the last
option considered. It is important to
remember that once significant wear and
chipping has occurred, the teeth that caused
this chipping also need to be corrected to
recover the space that was lost from these teeth
erupting in to the chipped areas.
Dear Dr. Winter, I had a tooth break at the
gumline. I really dont want a bridge as I have
heard they have to shave down the other teeth
and those teeth will be weakened. I am also
concerned that I might need bone grafting to
have an implant. What is your opinion about
placing implants the same day the tooth comes
out? Can this help me avoid a bone graft?
Dear John, the ability to place an implant the
day the tooth is removed is dependent on
several factors. First the remaining bone
should be intact and thicker than 1.5 mm so
that there is good blood supply to fill in the
gap between the implant and the remaining
tooth socket. Next there should be good
stabilization of the implant and if it can not be
placed with good insertion torque, it may be
better to graft the socket and come back in 3
months to place the implant after bone fill has
occurred. The literature supports both means
of placing implants but it is still dependent
upon clinician skill, bone quality and quantity
and cosmetic expectations of the patient.
We would be happy to perform a second
opinion or comprehensive examination and
x-ray visit for our readers! Please call us at
414-464-9021 to schedule your visit. We
invite you to visit our new website at
www.hamptondentalassociates.com For
photos and videos of our dentistry and
information about implants and cosmetics.
We look forward to meeting you!

The areas oldest performing sym-
phony orchestra, Milwaukees Festival
City Symphony (FCS), has announced
the schedule for its upcoming 2014-
2015 Symphony SundaysClassical
Music for All Ages series and the
Pajama Jamboree concert series for
children, parents, and grandparents. In
all, the symphony orchestra will per-
form seven concerts during the upcom-
ing season.
The 2014-2015 Symphony Sundays
series will begin with the concert titled
All Beethoven on Sunday, October 19,
2014, with two works of Ludwig van
Beethoven, beginning with the joyful
Symphony No. 2. The second piece,
the Concerto for Piano, Violin, and
Cello better known as the Triple
Concerto, demands three virtuoso
soloists. FCS is pleased to welcome
back acclaimed Milwaukee pianist
Jeannie Yu, to perform with FCS section
leaders Robin Petzold, violin, and
Stefan Kartman, cello.
On Sunday, February 15, 2015, the
orchestra will perform Seascapes, a
concert of three varied works inspired
by the sea. First is the Overture to
Richard Wagners dramatic romantic
opera The Flying Dutchman, followed
by British composer Frank Bridges
The Sea. Claude Debussys popular
La Mer will complete the program.
American Masters is the title of
FCSs March 15, 2015, concert.
Through time, American composers
often felt inferior to European masters,
said FCS Conductor Monte Perkins.
The three works featured in this pro-
gram prove this is false. Aaron
Coplands exuberant An Outdoor
Adventure will begin the concert, fol-
lowed by nineteenth-century composer
George Whitefield Chadwicks roman-
tic Symphony No. 2. A beautiful new
work by contemporary composer John
Rutter, the Suite Lyrique for Harp and
Strings, will feature FCS harpist Ann
Lobotzke.
The Symphony Sundays season will
conclude on May 3, 2015, with
Russian Festival. The concert will begin
with Alexander Borodins Polovtsian
Dances, which includes the melody
now known as Stranger in Paradise
from Kismet. Next is Tchaikovskys
Symphony No. 3, called the Polish
Symphony because of its infectious
polonaise dance rhythms. Completing
the season will be Tchaikovskys popu-
lar Marche Slav.
Symphony Sundays concert per-
formances are held at the Pabst
Theater, 144 East Wells Street, at 3
p.m., and include descriptive program
information from the stage by
Conductor Monte Perkins. FCS wel-
comes children to these concerts, which
are most appropriate for those in sec-
ond grade and older. Prior to each
concert at 2:45 p.m., Jayne Perkins
presents Children's Program Notes,
offered to help children become famil-
iar with the music they are about to
hear.
Admission to each concert is $14
for adults and $8 for children, students,
and seniors. Early-bird season ticket
packs are available through October
13, 2014, in several categoriesa sea-
son Family Pack admits an entire family
to all four concerts for just $75;
Couples Packs admit two people to all

Dawn caregiver with Jen
Jenny was diagnosed with a
debilitating "Conversion Disorder"
affecting her speech and nervous
system, mimicking MS &
Parkinson. Jenny thought she
needed cleaning help, but
realized she needed a company
that offered much more to remain
independent.
Dawn keeps Jenny positive
which keeps her symptoms
dormant. They cut coupons,
clean and cook meals, sort mail,
decorate for holidays and mostly
laugh a lot over life's challenges.
Jenny says: "she is more
comfortable when her home is
clean and organized. It gives her a
sense of comfort and happiness".
On a shelf sits a Precious
Moment Christian soldier, a gift
from Caregiver Dawn that says
"Life hands you challenges yet
together you push on." Dawns
reminder to Jenny is that no
matter what age we are, we could
always use a helping hand.

Jamboree classical pops concerts, held on select
Wednesday evenings from 7-8 p.m. in the Bradley
Pavilion of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts,
entered through the 123 E. State Street entrance.
Hosted by FCS education director Jayne Perkins,
these popular concerts welcome children, especially
in grades kindergarten through fifth, and their parents
or grandparents to attend in casual dress or pajamas
for open space floor seating up close to meet the
orchestra. Conventional seating is also available.
Featuring music and narration, Halloween with
Peter & the Wolf will begin the Pajama Jamboree con-
cert series on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. FCS
orchestra members will be in costume and invite atten-
dees to do the same. The Pajama Jamboree season
will continue on Wednesday, December 10, 2014,
with Holiday Storytime, featuring the reading of Yes,
Virginia, There is a Santa Claus and Twas the Night
Before Christmas with seasonal background music
from the orchestra. Attendees are encouraged to
bring a nonperishable food donation for Milwaukees
Hunger Task Force. This series concludes on
Wednesday, May 6, 2015, with Spring Into Song, a
Pajama Jamboree to welcome the season with lively
tunes. The popular FCS tradition of young audience
members getting a chance to conduct the orchestras
finale, Stars and Stripes by John Philip Sousa, will
conclude this concert.
Milwaukees Festival City Symphony, the oldest
performing symphony orchestra in the area, showcas-
es area professional musicians. Its mission is to extend
