ATTENDANCE: Teamwork is the basis of theatre and film. A vital part of the learning in this
class will take place in sharing with the other class members your experience, observations and
process. Attendance is important. 1
st
timers MUST attend at least 7 classes for a total of 7 hours in
order to pass this course. 2
nd
timers (primarily Seniors) MUST attend at least 4 classes for a total of 4
hours in order to pass this class. In addition, you are required to attend Major Event on Saturday,
November 1
st
as both a participant AND an observer.
Written assignments: The nature of this class is individualized to optimize your ability to custom
tailor the Major Event projects to your own specific needs. To that end there are four written
components required for this class:
YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION paper DUE electronically email it to me at
ellison@bgsu.edu by TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2
nd
at 5 pm.
Your Lifes Plan: GOALS & TIMELINES: (The first version is DUE through email by
Sunday, September 7 at noon. The revised version is DUE by Friday, September 19 at 12 noon)
This is a brief statement of goals for your future (long term/short term) and your goals for Major Event
2014, including a TIMELINE of what you will do to prepare for Major Event. The TIMELINE is
especially important in the revised version that includes work with your mentor/mentee.
MAJOR EVENT: There is some kind of written work required for every track of Major Event.
At the very least, a resume is required from everyone. The Playwriting and Research/Scholars tracks
require more. These are due by Friday, October 3
rd
at 4:20 pm, so there is time to send them to outside
adjudicators. See Major Event Requirements sheet for specific details.
REFLECTION/ASSESSMENT: One of the primary ways we learn is by reflecting on events
after they have happened. DURING MAJOR EVENT get a friend (ideally, your mentor or mentee) to
make notes of the feedback you are given, so you can look at them after the event. This paper should
name the friend who took notes for you.
This paper is a brief analysis of 1) the process of preparing for Major Event, 2) the event itself and your
performance in it, and 3) what you learned from this process. In your analysis be sure to include what you
did and what the department did that you found most useful and what you could have done and what the
department could do to make the event even more useful and effective.
