Offshore and onshore operations
where there is a need to detect and
quantify any gas produced as the
well is being drilled.

P R O B L E M S
Until now, gas meters designed
for drilling operations did not have
the accuracy or reliability to detect
the small quantities of gas that
are produced when drilling tight
gas formations.

is accurate at
flowvelocities ranging from 0.1
to 275 ft/sec (.03 to 83.8 m/sec). It
installs in the flare line between the
MUD/GAS SEPARATOR
*
and the flare
stack, measuring gas-flow velocity,
temperature and pressure to deter-
mine actual and standard volumetric
flow as well as mass flow rates.

The CARBONTRACKER

gas meter can be
used effectively to quantify the true
production potential of formations
while drilling underbalanced. This
real-time reservoir data improves the
decision-making process and poten-
tially reduces overall exploration
and development costs.

The CARBONTRACKER meter allows
operators to precisely measure the
amount of gas being flared or vented
while drilling. This, coupled with the
potential to increase the efficiency of
well delivery, allows operators to bet-
ter quantify and reduce the overall
environmental impact of a project.
Underbalanced Drilling (UBD) offers
a unique opportunity to determine
reser voir characteristics while dril -
ling. Rather than relying solely on
log data to pre dict production, the
CARBONTRACKER meter provides
real-time and conclusive information
on the location of productive gas
zones and the production rates while
drilling underbalanced. As the indus-
try seeks cost-reduction technologies,
UBD with the CARBONTRACKER gas
meter provides operators with
improved information to assist in
making better-informed decisions.
Always watching
for tight gas
When gas passes through the
CARBONTRACKER meter, its presence
is detected, even at trace levels. The
information is captured by the
units computer and transmitted
to the data-acquisition system.
The ultrasonic CARBONTRACKER
meter is so sensitive, it can detect
hydrocarbon gas at velocities as
lowas 0.1 ft/sec (.03 m/sec), but can
measure flows as high as 275 ft/sec
(83.8 m/sec). With the built-in pres-
sure and temperature sensors, the flow
computer can accurately determine
molecular weight and mass flow.
Made for any rig, anywhere
The CARBONTRACKER meter is com-
prised of the flow cell installed in the
flare line, an explosion-proof flow
computer and an office interface unit.
Once M-I SWACO has installed and
tested the CARBONTRACKER meter,
the unit requires no onsite operator.
It requires little or no maintenance,
because it has no moving parts.
Your M-I SWACO representative can
provide the information you need to
make the CARBONTRACKER gas-flow
meter part of your tight-gas strategy.
The CARBONTRACKER meters
ultrasonic sensor can detect
hydrocarbon gas at velocities
as low as 0.1 ft/sec (.03 m/sec),
but can measure flows as high
as 275 ft/sec (83.8 m/sec).
