1. Practical Training Objective

The objective of this course is to get to know the
possibilities created by solar energy to generate clean
and renewable energy.

The students will not only learn about a design and
construction of a self-sufficient house. They will also
acquire practical knowledge of solar energy

The self-sufficient house will respect the environment.
What is more, thanks to its design, this type of
bioclimatic house will be more efficient and will also
contribute to the reduction of CO2 emission.
2. Skills To Be Acquired

The students will acquire basic skills to design and install
solar systems in order to build a self-sufficient house using
solar energy.
To achieve the objectives, the trainees will acquire the
ability to:
Design, calculate and install photovoltaic systems
Design and calculate solar thermal energy systems
Assemble isolated photovoltaic systems
Assemble solar thermal systems
Assemble electrical panels and systems
Assemble plumbing systems
Assemble a wooden house
Assemble swimming pool systems
Assemble drip irrigation and a solar pump
Assemble a solar pergola in order to charge electric cars
Maintain the solar installations

4. Methodology

The training is geared towards vocational students and uses participatory approaches
as much as possible. The methodologies that will be principally used are practical
sessions (hands-on practice), individual, small and large group work, and simulations.
Students acquisition of practical skills will be monitored and assessed throughout the
course by their tutor. Any doubts or not understood parts of the training programme
will be addressed on a daily basis in order to facilitate the learning process and
achieve the training objectives.
5. Monitoring

Participants will be under constant supervision of their tutor who will be guiding them
through the whole training process.

Tutor: D. Francisco Javier Hoyo de la Torre
Degree in Industrial Engineering with specialization in Industrial Management and
Mechanics.
6. Study Visits

Abengoa Solar Plant - The trainees will visit the biggest solar plant in Europe which
applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and
environment sectors, generating electricity from renewable resources, converting
biomass into biofuels and producing drinking water from sea water.
