CHRISTMAS GIVING! Our Christmas tree is looking quite festive! Donations have
been coming in for Chalice – a Canadian-based Catholic programme providing aid to 15 countries
worldwide. We would suggest that if you have not brought your chalice donation in to the parish,
you mail your cheque directly to Chalice or donate online. If you do this, please consider
dropping a note in the collection basket mentioning the item or items you have purchased. Don’t
forget to choose an ornament for each donation and hang it on the Christmas tree which has been
set up in the front entrance. We hope that the tree will be loaded with ornaments by Christmas
time, as a shining example of your generosity.
For those of you who like to shop, we are also collecting Shoeboxes for the Shepherds of Good Hope, for
distribution to the homeless. Both male and female boxes are needed. Suggested contents include: deodorant,
disposable razors, shaving cream, small bottles of shampoo, hand cream, or cologne, tooth paste and tooth
brushes, combs and hair brushes, barrettes or elastics, gloves, mitts, toques, socks or underwear. Boxes
should be unwrapped and secured with elastic, and can be dropped off at the church until December 13th or
at the very latest December 16th as the boxes will be delivered to Ottawa next Friday. We will also happily
accept donations of money to purchase items in bulk for this project.
If you need more information on either of these endeavours, please feel free to call Jane Donnelly
(613-432-2241), Nancy Saumure (613-433-7309) or Yvonne Sklepowicz (613-432-6725).
HALL FEES: The Finance and Property Committee has been reviewing the challenge of
maintenance of our Parish Hall. Our costs for a “stand alone” building increase our heating,
lighting and taxes. There has not been a rental increase in many years and in reviewing our use
and provision of services connected with rentals it was decided that an increase in rates is
appropriate at this time. As well, providing the hall free of charge for funeral luncheons
can no longer continue. Consequently, beginning January 1st, 2010, the daily rental for the
large hall will be $125 per usage for a half day and $250 for a full day.
The small hall will continue to be half of the cost of the large hall.
Long term rentals of the hall are negotiable in an effort to attract more rental income. Fees can
be waived if deemed to be a financial burden in a particular circumstance.
2010 SUNDAY CONTRIBUTION ENVELOPES: are ready for
pick-up on the tables in the main foyer. Please contact the office THIS WEEK AT S.F.X.:
if you do not currently have envelopes and would like some. *Wed. Bereavement Gp 7:30 p.m.
You may also wish to consider opting for the Automatic Debit (Rectory Mtg. Rm. #1)
service. Forms are available at the office.
CHRISTMAS SCHEDULES : with times for Christmas and New Year liturgies for our
local parishes may be found at the church entrances and on the parish website.
A CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR A FRIEND OF CHINCHA ALTA, PERU!: we received a letter from Sr.
Pauline Coulterman of the Sisters of St. Joseph who spent many years working with the people of
Chincha Alta, Peru. In the letter Sister invites you “to share your Christmas with a needy family of
Chincha Alta, Peru. Many Peruvians are still struggling to put a roof over their head and keep their
family together following the 2007 Earthquake.”
Sister will be travelling to Chinch Alta in February and hopes to be able to bring some “Christmas
Gifts from Canadian Friends.” She notes that $25 is a very appropriate “Christmas Gift” and lists
what this and other amounts will purchase. Sister’s letter with attached donation form may be
found on the tables at the church entrances.
