RE: MA-06 Poll Results: Moulton Leads Tisei by 8 Points DATE: September 13, 2014
Democrat and veteran U.S. Marine Captain Seth Moulton enters the general election with an early lead over Republican Richard Tisei, according to a recent DCCC survey of likely general election voters in Massachusetts 6 th Congressional District. In the congressional matchup, Moulton leads Tisei by 8 points (49% to 41%), with just 10% of voters still undecided. Moulton enjoys especially strong margins among must-win groups within the likely electorate, namely women (+11 point lead over Tisei) and older voters (+5 point lead over Tisei).
For a first-time candidate, Moulton has been incredibly successful sharing his personal story and connecting with voters across the district. Of the 60% of voters already familiar with him, the rate of those who hold a favorable opinion of him is impressively four times as high as the rate of those who hold an unfavorable view. By comparison, Tisei, a third time nominee in the district (once for U.S. Congress, once for Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor) is a known quantity; however voters opinions of him are mixed.
Massachusetts 6 th Congressional District is a true swing district. President Obama carried the district in 2012 with 55.5% of the major party vote.
The data in this memo is from a survey of 432 likely 2014 general election voters conducted September 13, 2014 in Massachusetts 6 th Congressional District. The margin of error is 4.7 percent.
