Duties and Responsibility:

Assistant Nurse Manger-Operations


Department: INPATIENT SERVICES
Division: NURSING SERVICE
Reports To: NURSING SERVICES
Supervises: ALL NSD STAFF
I. JOB SUMMARY
Assists the Nursing Directress to manage from the perspective of the organization as a whole
and to transform organizational values into daily operations yielding an effective, efficient and
caring organization; provides leadership and direction accordant the organizations mission and
values as well as the nursing core ideology, vision and philosophy; collaborates with other
professional disciplines to achieve the organizational health care goal and to oversee practice and

operations; assists the Nursing Directress in the overall administration of the nursing Service
Division, most especially in the staff development, quality awareness and nursing practice; and
assumes the responsibility of the Nursing Directress in her absence.
II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide guidance, direction, education and counseling to nursing staff on patient personal
care, patient health conditions, interpretation of nursing policies and procedures, and
work performance to ensure that patients needs are met
2. Makes observations within the nursing department to ensure all nursing personnel are
performing according to acceptable standards, regulations and policies; provide
counseling as indicated. Ensure ongoing evaluation and innovation of services
3. Monitors patient activity, care and documentation to ensure the delivery of nursing care
according to physicians orders, care plans, standards of practice and nursing policies
4. Engages in studies or audits related to improving patient care, follow up with appropriate
staff for corrective action and participate in QA subcommittees as appropriate
5. Investigates, develops and implements human resource strategies to support quality and
cost effective improvements in changing environments
6. Creates and maintains nursing schedules and ensure the adequate staffing levels of
professional nursing staff. Coordinate nursing care between defined areas and other
health care disciplines
7. Establishing and implementation of policies and statistics (e.g. Turnover rate,
Productivity) in co-operation with Human Resource Department
8. Assists with the completion of annual evaluations of professional nursing personnel;
assists Nursing Directress in identifying and advising staff members with potential for
development. Work on training program for MDH NSD staff, assists Nursing Directress
in organizing and planning of in-house training and education
9. Assisting Nursing Directress in developing and implementing strategies to retain as well
as to recruit successful applicants for employment in MDH
10. Participates in the formulation and revision of policy and procedure manuals and forms
used by the department
11. Participants in strategic and long-range planning of the nursing and health care
organization
12. Control and stay in line with the budget, inclusive of planning of equipment and capital
investments
13. Initiates changes for the improvement of nursing profession
14. Ensures adherence to infection control policies and procedures to maintain a safe and a
sanitary environments for patients, visitors and employees

15. Assumes responsibility for the Nursing Directress, supervisor or other nursing positions
in the absence or as needed. May provide coverage on all shifts for professional nursing
staff as needed
16. Regular meetings with proper Agenda and Reports with NSD staff
17. Performs other duties as a range by the Nursing Directress or Hospital Director/Assistant
Hospital Director
Assistant Nurse Manger Training:
DEPARTMENT: INPATIENT SERVICES
DIVISION: NURSING SERVICE
REPORTS TO: NURSING DIRECTRESS
SUPERVISES: ALL TRAINEES AND STAFF
I. JOB SUMMARY
Responsible in planning, organizing, and implementing a well-planned training
program for trainees and staff
II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conducts skill inventory and discusses results of Nursing Qualifying Exam with
nursing applicants considered for orientation
2. Formulates schedule of clinical exposure activities and guidelines in giving
assignment for the post graduate training course
3. Prepares a well-planned orientation to endure the anxiety the new employees feel
when beginning a job
4. Promote socialization in the workplace that contributes to effectiveness and
productivity, thereby, reducing untoward incidence caused by dissatisfaction, and
other crisis management
5. Provides information involving matters that are organization wide, departmental
or institutional wide in nature which are relevant to the new employees such as
benefits; work hours, accommodation for transient dorm and resident dorm, etc.
6. Provides the new nursing employees initial orientation, familiarization on the
hospital set up and the general policies and procedure.
7. Implements the planned schedule; following hospital standard operating
procedure to achieve expected competencies in coordination with Unit Head
Nurse.

8. Councils new staff for possible work challenges and anticipate potential problems
to help them cope with the reality shock
9. Gives written/ verbal feedback to the nursing service officers as to the trainees
performance and further learning needs.
10. Accomplishes the PGNT (Post Graduate Nurse Training) Evaluation Form
focusing on his/her strengths and weaknesses.
11. Plans program for research activities
12. Prepares budget for training and research activities
13. Requests supply of book, periodicals and other reading or instructional materials
necessary for the training in nursing books and journals, VHS/Betamax/video CD
tapes on nursing trend s and procedures and transparencies for Audio-Visual
instructional materials
14. Keeps the Bulletin Board as the source of information for any scheduled events
and activities like seminar, conferences, and training programs and research.
15. Supervises and evaluates work performance of trainees.
16. Submits annual plan and performance of the training office to the Nursing
Directress
17. Participants I meeting and other activities of the standing committees of the
Nursing Service
18. Performs any other job assignment as directed.

Administrative Officer:
is to insist on the regular and efficient discharge of all kinds of Business for which
any and every member of the establishment is responsible, to exercise proper personal
control and supervision over them to make himself thoroughly acquainted with each
mans work and check it frequently, to give proper instructions regarding the
maintenance of Registers etc., and the performance of other duties.
Administrative Officer should inspect from time to time the work of each member of
the staff.
Meeting with senior management to discuss new policies and procedures is the duty
of an admin officer. He will raise any issues that may arise with the new policies and
suggest improvements that will make the policies better.
Drafting a job description and carrying out interviews are common responsibilities of
an admin officer.
Helping prepare department budgets is the responsibility of an admin officer.

Chief Nurse:
Plans, organizes and directs hospital Nursing, Nursing Education and other
departments as assigned
Directs the personnel management activities of assigned areas; guides subordinate
directors, managers and supervisors in the selection, hiring, training and development
of staff as well as performance appraisal, documentation of deficiencies, performance
recognition and disciplinary action;
develops, supervises and appraises direct subordinates; plans and implements
disciplinary actions as needed, working with Human Resources and legal staff as
appropriate; makes recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer regarding
the evaluation, promotion, transfer or discipline of nursing personnel.
In coordination with Nursing Services Division Managers ensures appropriate nurse
staffing and clinical care per regulatory and hospital policies.
Establishes and directs the nursing model; reviews and evaluates administrative and
clinical nursing procedures within the hospital; directs and oversees the development
and implementation of clinical and operational policies, procedures and standards,
including quality assurance activities, for assigned areas; initiates changes as needed.
Participates in hospital-wide strategic planning activities to ensure the delivery of
comprehensive and coordinated health services.
Represents assigned areas to other hospital divisions, other health departments, and
external agencies to coordinate activities, identify issues, resolve problems and share
information.
Directs the development and implementation of an in-service training program;
confers with education and training staff to ensure that the education and training
needs for staff in assigned areas are met.
Prepares or reviews special studies, reports and documents; reviews and ensures
proper completion of reports, records and other documentation.
Supervisor:
A nurse supervisor organizes, evaluates and ensures that the staff is providing
adequate care to patients.
She also oversees the daily staffing requirements of the department. She must have
strong leadership skills to be able to solve staff issues and ensure care and comfort of
patients.
A nurse supervisor is also a liaison between the nursing staff and the doctors.
Nurse supervisors are less involved in direct patient care; they do plan nursing
services in surgery, obstetrics or pediatrics and ensure that the requirements of
patients are being met as instructed by the hospital administration and the physician.
Implements and interprets organizational policies and procedures, and nursing
standards and regulations.

Assists with preparing the departmental fiscal budget; performs other duties as
assigned.
Senior Staff:
Assumes responsibilities for the delivery of quality nursing health care to patient in the unit;
provides direct and indirect patient care; adhere to the nursing service policies and procedures
and other protocol in the performance and duties and responsibilities and other patient care
activities.

Staff Nurse:
A nurse acts as a basic care provider, comforter and healer for patients. They comfort
patients and provide them emotional support in dealing with diseases.
They provide emotional, psychological and intellectual support in matters related to
dealing with diseases.
As a part of their duties, nurses help candidates to develop positive attitude towards
disease so that with good emotional health, the patient can be treated easily.
A nurse has to learn to be friends with patients and provide them love and care.
Nurses encourage patients to develop a sense of achievement every time the patients
are able to follow some dietary recommendations or exercise schedule.
A staff nurse becomes responsible for the well-being of the patient when he is under
the nurse's watch.
Providing nursing care also involves the regular checkups or monitoring of the patient's statistics
and condition, and to report the same to the correct people.
