PART A: POSTION STATEMENT

INTRODUCTION

My name is Sharvin Rao. Ive lived 19 years of my life and I can definitely say i have so
much more to witness. God showered His grace upon me all my life as I am lucky when it comes
to my family, education and social life. Raised in a moderate family background, my family
hardly ever take things for granted as we see value in everything. I was born to the most caring
parents, in my opinion, as they have been alongside me through thick and thin, instilling me with
religion and character among others. My education has always been a key factor in my life
because my parents emphasize good eduaction as an imperative. After getting my SPM results, I
received an offer to enter Malaysia Matriculation Programme. It was entirely a new experience
for me as I have never been from home for so long. My mom told me that openness to endure
experience is one of the most precious thing in life as there is no better teacher than experience
itself. Experiencing the first step of adulthood right now creates anxiety and excitement in me to
face te world ahead. I am a person who takes life positively regardless of the hurdles being
thrown towards me. Problems arise for a reason and if you fail to realize that they are Gods way
of testing your perseverance, then there is no point in regretting on a life not worth living. Thus,
it is my perspective of life, to take whatever which comes in my way without any complains and
to face those hardships and obstacles without any fear.

Values/ Belief
Patience is virtue and this is only true. I am the one that stays calm when there is a fire, stays
calm when I got into a road accident, stays calm when assignment is due tomorrow. This value
of mine has been a significant factor for making the right decisions when I was faced with
difficulties. Keep Calm and Carry On, the quote that was originally produced by the British
government in 1939 several months before the beginning of the Second World War, intended to
raise the morale of the British public in the aftermath of widely predicted mass air attacks on
major cities, which now is widely used everywhere, with every opportunity, on every social
media platform is somewhat a correct thing to do. Only when you are calm you make the best
decisions which would smoothen the way out of a problem which eventually lets you carry on
with life.

Kindness is my lifes belief. I think kindness in humanity has to be resurrected once again as you
and I know that the world we are living in is in a depressing kindness deficit. The deficit
unfortunately, has a helpless reason to it. A simple example, if you see an old man walking on
the side of the streets, would you pick him up and take him to his destination? No, I suppose
because you think that there is a chance he might rob, sodomize, put a knife at your throat or
hijack your car. It is clear to see who the culprits of this negative phenomena are, criminals. They
not only caused harm on their victims, but also stole away kindness from humanity. Although I
know what the many dangers I am putting myself into by giving kindness, I still choose to. I
would and I have picked up that old man walking by the road, fetched a student home while she
was walking alone on an empty street (which took some time to convince her that I come in
peace) or simply helped a blind cross the road.

Personality
One of my personalities is optimism and I am honestly quite proud of that. Optimism, as defined
by the Oxford dictionary is the hopefulness and confidence about the future or the success of
something. The most obvious testimony is my history of joining contests and competitions. From
contests online, radio call-in contests, slogan contests and photo contests, many would not even
care trying to join any of them but simply get all jealous and envious when they see the winners
with their prizes. Many too from my observation tend to give up quite easily after only a couple
of tries. This is where my optimistic personality comes in to effective play. I always look at the
bright side even though I dont win something and only take the many failures as steps closer to
the pot of shiny gold. This has won me many prizes including an all-expense paid trip to Bali and
a cut of RM500,000 among many other prizes.

I also see myself as an extrovert. I love communicating with others, love being able to relate to
others, I basically cannot live without people not being around me. I think the definition of
extrovert given by Oxford being an outgoing, overtly expressive person absolutely pin points my
personality. For instance, I would take the initiative to take the first step talking to someone,
even to the most random people, individuals that people tend to miss in their daily routines such
as the security guards and the janitor. I find it interesting to look at things from a whole new
alternative view and enjoy listening to what people has to say about what I observe every day.
This has certainly encouraged me to be an anti-introvert.

Employability
Quoted from Conlin, 1999 ` Is Optimism a Competitive Advantage, Bloomberg Businessweek
13 August, optimistic, engaged employees are more productive and hence can help their
employers grow and make more money. It is clear that employers dig individuals who are
optimistic, which I am proud to say that I do possess that personality. With my optimism, I can
encourage and instil positive energy in the workplace and push my colleagues to work harder
and reach for the stars, which would ultimately bring good to the company as a whole.

Increasingly, the demands and changes in modern workplaces require workers who are highly
skilled and independent thinkers. In order to meet these challenges, educators must prepare
students who are technically knowledgeable and have the social skills needed to function in these
types of workplaces (Hamilton, 1990) My extrovert personality surely helps increase my
employability as it developed my interpersonal skills which is crucial in the business world. My
communication skills would help me develop a healthybond with the upper level which would
make my ideas be passed up the hierarchy. My relationship with co-workers would also make the
workplace a whole lot more interesting and would ultimately increase productivity levels.

Conclusion
I can say that education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepared
for it today. By joining University of London International Programmes, I could say that I am
able improve myself for what are the employers out there seeking for and get in shape for it. On
top of that, I have the personalities and values that employers long for.
