About GATE 2015:
G
ATE 2015 is the all India examination that is conducted to screen the admissions to the
various PG courses in engineering across the country. The Graduate Aptitude Test in
Engineering (GATE) primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of the various
subjects in Engineering and Technology of the applicants. Candidates can apply to the M.Tech/
M.E/ M.Des (at some IITs) courses on the basis of their GATE 2015 scores. For the first time, GATE
2015 Scores will be valid for three years.
Known to be a tough exam, GATE 2015 will also serve as a screening test for recruitment by
leading PSUs in the country as seen in the past few years. GATE 2015 will be conducted online for
all 22 papers with multiple choice questions (MCQs) and numerical ones to be done using the vir-

GATE 2014 Exam- Facts and figures:
A total of 10,33,625 candidates registered
for GATE 2014 in September 2013 when the
applications were announced. Female candidates
comprised of 30.17 % of the applicants.
8, 89,156 candidates (86.02%) appeared for the
exam with 86% of the Male and 85% of the

Supporting Documents to be uploaded during the Online Application
Process:
Certificate from Principal: only for candidates, who will complete their qualifying exam
in 2015 or later.
Candidates must obtain a certificate from their institution duly attested by their principal/ Head
of the Institution.
They are required to upload the same during the online submission of the GATE 2015
Application Form.
Candidates with backlogs: only for candidates, who have arrears or have failed in one or
more subjects.
Such Candidates must submit a copy of any one of the marks sheets of the final year,
OR
They have to obtain a declaration from their Principal for the same with the signature and seal
prior to filling the Application Form for GATE 2015.

Changes incorporated in GATE 2014 and 2013 that will remain in force for
GATE 2015:
Computer Based Test: All the 22 exam
papers will be Computer Based Tests
(CBT).
GATE 2015 will be held on alternate
weekends (Saturday and Sunday) dur-
ing the forenoon and the afternoon
sessions starting from January 31 to

Choice of Third City as exam centre as per the list of GATE 2015 Exam Centres
The GATE 2015 Application will be Online.
The GATE 2015 Admit Card will have to be downloaded by candidates. Candidates also need to
carry one of the specified valid Photo ID along with the GATE Admit Card.
The GATE 2015 Question Paper will contain Numerical Type of Questions.
PSU Recruitment through GATE 2015:
As has been the trend in the past years, an increasing number of PSUs have started using the GATE
scores for their recruitment purposes. Candidates, who qualify in GATE 2015, can apply to the

The first step in the GATE 2015 Preparation would be to gather and know all the details of the
GATE exam like the eligibility criteria, subject papers, syllabus, exam pattern, etc. All this infor-
mation is given in the above pages.
GATE Preparation requires a serious and a dedicated approach with no other distractions. Make
sure you are ready for this.
Generally, it is seen that the GATE papers delve more into the subjects covered during the second
and third year of graduation. So it is imperative that the syllabus pertaining to this period is
brushed up more and taken care of.
If you are a final year student, you couldnt ask for a more hectic schedule but turn it to your
advantage. The study environment is there. All you need to do is to incorporate the schedule for
GATE preparation into it.
Before you start your preparation, sit and analyze your strengths and weaknesses topic wise. This
will help you know where to focus and how to make the weak points your strong ones.
It is advisable to check the Previous Year Papers for GATE preparation. Chances are that you will
realize the topics that are more dealt with than the others. Make your preparation better by deal-
ing with the topics in hand in a more phased manner and strengthening your knowledge.

habit in the initial stages. The reason is once you study a topic; you test yourself in it and know
what your strong and weak points are.
It is mandatory for you to solve test papers and more important to solve as many previous GATE
papers as you can. Like it was stated earlier, the preparation will be fruitful only if this is done.
Plan your timetable and stick to it strictly. Keep the GATE syllabus handy to refer and know
where you stand in terms of preparation.
It is advisable that you try and cover the maximum syllabus in spite of the weightage given to the
topics by experts and all. The reason can be gauged by an example- GATE 2014 saw questions
being asked from topics that were not really covered in many of the earlier GATE Papers.
If there is a topic or subject that you are weak in, work hard to make yourself strong in it rather
than ignore it. Coping up with a mountain of syllabus at the end is a strict no go and a sure way
to lag.
Prepare a realistic timetable that you will be able to adhere and achieve.
A strong recommendation is for the ready reckoner notes. Make these notes while you are study-
ing the topics in detail. They will be useful to you in the last stages of your preparation when you
will not have ample time to look deep into the topics.
Do not be disheartened if your performance is not excellent during the initial days. You can still
catch up with a few more attempts. The age old adage- Practice makes a man perfect holds true
here too.
If you have enrolled for some Test Series, it will help you to have a regular check mechanism of
where you stand. These tests will help you gauge your position and what you need to improve in.
Start the mock tests, sample papers and previous year paper revisions from October onwards. The
more you do these, the more you are comfortable with the exam pattern thereby improving your
speed.
Those who have not enrolled for any test series can also perform well. All they need to do is to
buy a book of sample papers, previous year papers and solve them all by the time the actual
GATE exam is held.
During the last days of preparation, schedule your tests daily in the time the actual GATE exam
is held afternoon or morning. This will help you acclimatize yourself to the day, time of the
actual exam.
Ensure that your revision is completed by November. The last month is for practice, practice and
more practice. Keep the ready reckoner notes handy and look to solve the doubts you may have
in the papers. Once the solution is known to you, practice it again so that you are sure rather than
glancing at it.
An important part is getting familiar with the online test environment. So it is advisable to spend
the last days practicing and solving the sample, mock papers along with the previous year papers
online.
Last but not least, make sure that the GATE admit Card, valid Photo ID as mentioned in your
GATE application, and other materials are kept ready a week before the actual GATE exam. This

allows you not to miss any important document or writing materials that are needed to appear for
the exam.
Time Management:
One of the most important aspects for the GATE exam preparation as well as the actual GATE
exam, time management has to be almost perfect for any student wishing to crack the GATE
exam and qualify with flying colours.
An extremely complex task is the making of the timetable or schedule. Before that, the desire and
belief of performing well in GATE has to be really strong.
Make a month wise target plan and include the topics that need to be covered during that period.
If you have enrolled for some coaching, you can adhere to the timetable they give you.
For those students who have not enrolled in any coaching classes, a self made plan will also work
wonders if strictly followed. In this, seniors and faculty can be a great help as they have experi-
ence with GATE Preparation. Friends, who have enrolled in coaching classes, can also help here.
In addition to the monthly target, a daily schedule is needed to make it come true. Paste it in a
place that ensures you can look at it and get going.
Do away with frivolous activities like TV, internet surfing, chatting on social media and ensure
the time is spent on your GATE preparation. Parties, movies are a strict no go for the duration
that you need to get your GATE preparation on board.
During the last stages, ensure that you practice more on the online mock tests. This will aid you
in getting familiar with the GATE exam environment. It will help you increase your speed while
answering and help you understand how best to write the GATE papers.
With the practice tests, you will also know on which areas you can spend more time and which
ones you need to give less time.
GATE is an open competition where anyone can succeed. It is proven that only those with a
strong desire to succeed and willing to do the required hard work will qualify with flying colours.
The background of any student doesnt really matter with GATE. Only the deserving ones get
