Topic : Modern Trends in Curriculam
Construction

INTRODUCTION

The Term Curriculum is derived from the Latin word Currere. It
means Path. According to Arthur Cunningham:
Curriculum is a tool, in the hands of an artist [teacher], to
mould his materials (Pupils) according to his ideals (Objectives) in jis
studio (School). Curriculum is the plants for guiding the goal oriented
educative process.

Modern Trends in Curriculum constructions are the following:-
1. Child centeredness :- Process child is Centre, so the art of
teaching lies in stimulating inner capacity of the child and in
keeping it alive free and developing.
2. Activity Oriented : - In new curriculum construction old lecture
is avoided. Thus teaching process includes various activities
which make a curiosity and thinking habit in child.
3. Practical Ability : - Curriculum should be of practical use to the
pupil. Thus due emphasis is given to work experience and
hence should maintain vocational and technical basis.
4. All Round Development of the Child : - Curriculum should aims
at the balanced growth of the child, so it maintain proper
balance between direct and indirect experiences, liberal and
professional education, compulsory and optional subjects,
curricular and co- curricular activities
5. Community Centeredness : - Child is a member of the
community. So the child cant be educated in a vacuum. He is
to be educated in a school established by the society. The goals
formulated by the school, which depend up on the purpose of
the society determine the nature of the curriculum
6. Learning By Doing : - By nature man is creative therefore,
education should be so moulded as to enable one develop
ones creativity and through self experiences.
7. Motivation of Child : - The curriculum should motivate the
pupil to actively participate in the learning process with an
innate desire arising out of intrinsic motivation
8. The preparation for life : - The school curriculum should
include such elements that would prepare children for their
future life.
9. Renewal : - Curriculum should be constructed as to facilitates
renewal of the society by infusing dynamism in all aspects.
10. Maturity : - Curriculum should be suited to the metal and
physical maturity of the pupil.
11. A Balanced program : - It is the aluminium age of science, a
time of breathtaking technological advancement and swift . The
educational program reflects this no less than the very ways
and means of our existence.
CONCLUSION

With the above features of curriculum it should be forward
looking, Integration subject, activity and experience. It should
conserve our culture and tradition, at the same time accept
the best of other culture.
