COMPARISON BETWEEN HOGWART SCHOOL AND REAL SCHOOL

Hogwarts school:
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, shortened Hogwarts, is a fictional British school
of magic for students aged eleven to seventeen, and is the primary setting for the first six books
in J.K Rowlings Harry Potter series.
Differences:
1. Letters.
Reference:
Next moment, thirty or forty letters came pelting out of the fireplace like bullets
Explanation:
In real life schools will only send you one or two letters. And will not bother that you get it or
not. But in harry potter harry was getting a large number of letters.
2. Single train.
Reference:
A voice echoed through the train: We will be reaching Hogwarts in five minutes time. Please
leave your luggage on the train, it will be taken to the school separately!
Explanation:
All the students of Hogwarts came from the same train where as in real school students come
from different stations and cities.
3. Luggage.
Reference:

Luggage was taken to the school separately. While in real schools students have to get their
bags by themselves.

4. Pets.
Reference:
Students may also bring an owl or a cat or a toad.
Explanation:
In real life schools students are not allowed to bring pets with them then but in harry potter,
harry was asked by Hogwarts to bring a pet with him.
5. The sorting hat.
Reference:
Difficult. Very difficult. Plenty of courage, I see. Not a bad mind, either. Theres talent, oh my
goodness, yes and a nice thirst to prove yourself, now thats interestingSo where shall I put
you?
Explanation:
It was a hat which interprets the thoughts of the students and assign them one of the four
houses. But in real life it is not the case and houses are assigned randomly.
6. School song.
Reference:
And now, before we go to bed, let us sing the school song!
Explanation:
In Hogwarts students used to sing school song before going to bed. But in real school there is
only a national anthem no school song.
7. People in the portraits whispered.
Reference:
He was too sleepy even to be surprised that the people in the portraits along the corridors
whispered and pointed as they passed.
Explanation:
In Hogwarts portraits used to give advice. But in real life no such thing is present.

8. Letters through owl.
Reference:
Harry had got used to this by now, but it had given him a bit of a shock on the first morning,
when about a hundred owls had suddenly streamed into the Great hall during breakfast,
circling the tables until they saw their owners and dropping letters and packages on to their
laps.
Explanation:
Unlike real schools, in Hogwarts owls used to bring letters for students.
9. Forbidden area.

The restricted section was right at the back of the library.
Explanation:
In Hogwarts their was a forest and some area of library where students were not allowed to go.
But in real school students can visit every place by taking permission.

Then there were doors that wouldnt open unless you asked politely, or tickled them in exactly
the right place, and doors that werent really doors at all, but solid wall just pretending.

There were some doors in Hogwarts that wouldnt open unless you asked politely, or tickled
them in exactly the right place. But in real schools there are no such doors are present.
11. Books.
Reference:
A piercing, blood-curdling shriek split the silence the book was screaming!
Explanation:
Some books used to scream in Hogwarts. Whereas normally books dont do this.


12. Punishment.
Reference:
His relief must have showed in his face, because Filch said, I suppose you think youll be
enjoying yourself with that oaf? Well, think again, boy its into the forest youre going and Im
much mistaken if youll come out in one piece.
Explanation:
In Hogwarts students were given life threatening punishments e.g Harry was sent to forbidden
forest. Whereas in normal schools students are not given such risky punishments.
13. Philsophers stone.
Reference:
The stone will transform any metal into pure gold. It also produces the Elixir of life, which will
make the drinker immortal.
Explanation:
It was a very important stone and was hidden inside a school(Hogwarts). But in real schools,
important things like philosophers stone, are not hided in school.
14. Dumbledores interaction with harry.
Reference:
So, said Dumbledore, slipping off the desk to sit on the floor with Harry, you, like hundreds
before you, have discovered the delights of the Mirror of Erised.
Explanation:
In real schools the principal of the school does not have as much interactionwith students as
Dumbledore had with harry. He was there in almost every important event to spirit harry.
15. Change of decoration.
Reference:
In an instant, the green hangings became scarlet and the silver became gold; the huge Slytherin
serpent vanished and a towering Gryffindor lion took its place.
Explanation:
Unlike real schools, in Hogwarts the flags of the wining house are hosted in the great hall.
16. Real wizard chess.
Reference:
They were standing on the edge of a huge chessboard, behind the black chessmen, which were
all taller than they were and carved from what looked like black stone.
Explanation:
In real schools, there is no such ches game in which one have to risk his own life to win it.
Similarities:
1. Keeper of the key.
Reference:
True, I havent introduced myself. Rubeus Hagrid, keeper of keys and Grounds at Hogwarts.
Explanation:
Hagrid was the keeper of the keys at Hogwarts just like real schools where there is also
someone who has the keys of schools.
2. Houses.
Reference:
School houses. Theres four. Everyone says Hufflepuff are a lot o duffer, but-

just like real schools Hogwarts was also divided into four different houses;
Gryffindor
Slytherin
Quidditch
Ravenclaw
3. Games.
Reference:
Quidditch trials will be held in the second week of term. Anyone interested in playing for their
house teams should contact Madam Hooch.
Explanation:
Hogwarts used to arrange games competition for students just like real schools. Quidditch was
one of the games played at Hogwarts.
4. Stadium for games.
Reference:
Hed never been inside the stadium before hundreds of seats were raised in stands around the
pitch
Explanation:
Just like real schools Hogwarts had a stadium where it could organize games.
5. Welcoming a new batch.
Reference:
Welcome! he said. Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts!
Explanation:
In real school, whenever a new batch or class arrives they are welcomed by the head of the
school. Same was the case in Hogwarts.
6. Taking attendance.
Reference:
Snape, like Flitwick, started the class by taking the register, and like Flitwick, he paused at
Harrys name.
Explanation:
In real schools teachers use to take attendance in the beginning of class. And same was the case
in Hogwarts.
7. Introduction of the subject.
Reference:
You are here to learn the subtle science and exact art of portion-making
Explanation:
in real schools during the first lecture teachers use to give introduction of the subjects they are
going to teach. Same was the case in Hogwarts.
8. Punishment.
Reference:
He was going to be expelled, he just knew it.
Explanation:
Just like real schools, if anyone breaks a rule he or she is given punishment or is expelled from
the school.
9. Medical centre.
Reference:
None of you is to move while I take this boy to the hospital wing! You leave those brooms
where they are or youll be out of Hogwarts before you can say Quidditch.
Explanation:
In Hogwarts there was a medical center for the treatment of ill students just like real schools.
10. Library.
Reference:
The library was pitch black and very eerie.
Explanation:
There was a library in Hogwarts comparable to the library of real schools.
11. Library books.
Reference:
Library books are not to be taken outside the school said Snape
Explanation:
In real life school have a library for student but they dont allow student to take library books
outside.


. 12. Holidays.
Reference:
And suddenly, their wardrobes were empty, their trunks were packed, Neviiles toad was found
lurking in a corner of the toilets; notes were handed out to all students, warning them not to
use magic over the holidays.
Explanation:
Just like real schools, Hogwarts also used to give vacations to students so that they can meet
their parents.
