Soon we will have something new to offer our patients and families at MMSC. The above pictures show a glimpse of what will be a part of our new chapel on the campus of MMSC-Highway 30. You may be askingwhat on our earth is it? Well no pun intended, it is the earth sculpted by glass artist Joy Day of Cali- fornia. The bowl serves as a vessel for water used in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism and for those who wish to receive a remembrance of their baptism. Baptism is an important entrance rite in many Christian denominations and its only fitting to have this special piece be a central piece in our new chapel space. In speaking with the artist Joy wanted the piece for Marshalltown to be repre- sentative of our multicultural realitythat as Christ has sent us to all nations we represent all nations from across the globe. Consider the new persons and families who have made our community their home. We are blessed by people from across Central America, from Burma and Lower Asia, and even newer immigrants from other places yet discovered. Each of us are part of this world and this bowl in many respects. Etched into this bowl are the words from St. John 8:12I am the light of the world. This statements from Jesus in the Gospel of John are declarative, mean- ing that we can believe on them in life and death. Once our light kit is placed in the stand it will shine light up and illume the world! The new chapel space will be dedicated in the near future and the baptismal bowl will have a temporary home. Be looking for a special dedicatory celebra- tion and presentation. Thanks to those working on the temporary chapel space committee and for the hospital for their continued support of spiritual care. Once in place the prayer chapel will be available for prayer, emergency baptism services, and for occasional prayer services. Chaplain Kris L. Snyder Friday, 24 October 2014 A Pledge of Trust Father, during this coming week there may be times when I shall not be able to sense your presence or to be aware of your nearness. When I am lonely and by myself I trust you to be my companion. When I am tempted to sin I trust you to keep me from it. When I am depressed and anx- ious I trust you to lift my spirits. When I am crushed by responsibility and overwhelmed by the demands of people on my time, I trust you to give me poise and a sense of pur- pose. When I am rushed and running I trust you to make me still inside. When I forget you I trust that you will never forget me. When I forget others I trust you to prompt me to think of them. When you take something or someone from me that I want to keep, when you remove the props I lean on for comfort in place of you; when you refuse to re- spond to my questions and to answer my too-selfish prayer, I will trust you even then.
