tional Expo and 8th Dhaka International Yarn and Fabric Show 2014 by the same organizers.
Speaking at the Inaugural function Bangladesh Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu stressed the
need to adapt latest technology in the production process of the countrys textile and apparel industry
to uphold the sectors competitiveness in the global apparel and textile markets. Out of the countrys
US$ 30.17 billion export earnings in the last fiscal (2013-14), the apparel exporters bagged $ 24.49
billion earnings, while they earned $ 21.51 billion as against of total $ 27.01 billion export earnings in
the fiscal 2012-13, he said. So, Bangladesh is gradually emerging as a very important destination for
quality textile and apparel products for global buyers, he said adding with these phenomenal growth,
introduction of latest technology in the production process is the key to further enhance the competi-
tiveness of the countrys apparel and textile industry.
Korean companies have shown keen interest in Bangladesh by investing around $600 million so far.
Korean Ambassador Lee Yun-young asked Bangladeshi garment exporters to manufacture value-
added products to grab more orders from international buyers. Bangladesh should move from just
cutting, making and dyeing to more value-added products, he said, adding that Korean companies
are ready to support such upgrades.
Growth should be a natural
consequence of our perfor-
mance. We want to achieve a
place in the hearts of our cus-
tomers by continuing with what
we have been doing all these
years - providing assurance on
key concerns like quality, cost-
effectiveness, range and ser-
vice.
