During my e-tensi)e career wit& t&e Department for 0ork and Pensions( &a)e de)eloped a wealt& of e-perience(
skills and knowledge w&ic& make me particularly suitable for t&is post. "irstly( was t&e e-ternal relations and
contracts manager for t&e 0orking Neig&bour&oods pilot( in an area of 'irken&ead wit& e-tensi)e entrenc&ed
worklessness. T&e pilot &ad a 3 million pound a year budget to spend on employment initiati)es( to &elp reduce
.oblessness. 4y duties included conception of a pro.ect( full tendering process( t&roug& to monitoring
performance of t&at contract. &a)e e-perience of inefficient contracts( suc& as 'looming 'irken&ead( a
gardening initiati)e( negotiating impro)ement plans wit& contract &olders and monitoring t&ose impro)ements
against my re/uirement plans. "ollowing t&is inter)ention( was t&en able to &elp t&e initiati)e attain t&e re/uired
standards. concei)ed multiple pro.ects( and training courses( and was responsible for monitoring performance
against t&ose contracts.
also &ad to ensure t&at ad)isors were making use of t&ose contracts( and ensuring t&at t&ey represented
)alue for money. &a)e )ery strong professional relations&ips wit& t&e local aut&ority( working as part of a multi,

ad)ising and commenting on potential e-it strategies in forms of employment and training. was also t&e single
point of conte-t for t&e coastal communities fund( w&ic& was a large National 8ottery "unded. compiled
comments form senior management on .ob creation prospects. recruit on be&alf of employers t&is includes
sifting applications and inter)iewing. also am a trained recruiter for t&e department.
am currently t&e 0irral business de)elopment manager. de)eloped se)eral( employment based
initiati)es( working wit& employers and stake&olders to put forward pro.ects to aid local unemployed people.
also regularly design and deli)er power,point presentations about welfare reform( often to &ostile audiences w&ere
people do not appro)e of t&e message( including ad)ocates of t&e unemployed( and also to large groups of people.
c&aired a focus group( made up of work,coac&es and ad)isory managers( identifying and analysing gaps in
pro)ision in 0irral( based on t&e needs of our client base. 'ased on t&is analysis( t&en &ad to re/uest more
information( including t&e potential numbers of customers in .ob centres in )arious benefits( in )arious benefit
categories. T&is included t&e need to support social .ustice groups( culminating in t&e creation putting toget&er a
business case re/uesting funds.
1ne of our most stretc&ing targets is for customers claiming income support. +ustomer insig&t said( lack
of c&ildcare was pre)enting t&em from mo)ing into unemployment. t&erefore identified( using by already
e-tensi)e contacts( including t&e 2ead of +&ildren9s !er)ices in 0irral( and a 4anaging Director of a Training
+ompany( w&o already possessed t&e rele)ant funds( but no )enue in 0irral. t&en brokered a meeting between
t&ese two figures( stressing issues wit& s&ort,term c&ildcare. :ltimately t&is led to t&e training being deli)ered in
four separate wards of 0irral( t&at included a free on,sig&t cr;c&e. was able again using information gleamed
from ad)isors( to bolt,on additional ways in w&ic& t&e training could be impro)ed( to build on an already &ig&,
/uality course. T&is made for a low,cost( multi,beneficial pro.ect w&ic& fulfilled t&e obligations ( targets and
ob.ecti)es of all t&ree organisations( and encourages parents( particularly lone parents to take up offers of
employment. T&is sits well wit& t&e anti,c&ild po)erty agenda.
led on t&e &ig&ly successful %uropean <ob9s "air( &eld in <anuary 3=>? in t&e floral pa)ilion. managed
to negotiate a considerably discount on t&e &iring cost of t&e )enue( including full t&eatre auditions for )acancies
wit& &oliday companies.6= employers and partners attended on t&e day( along wit& @6== .ob,seekers. concei)ed
an idea to book customers into &alf,&ourly bands t&roug&out t&e day( including gaps at bot& ends of t&e day( and
reduced numbers during t&e lunc&,time period. T&us( any potentially negati)e publicity because of /ueues was
a)oided. selected staffing based on ability( persuading partner organisations to support me. T&is was due to t&e
need to a)oid an o)er,reliance on <ob +entre staff. created t&e rota for reception staff( taking into account lunc&
&ours and peak times of t&e day. set t&e )enue out into areas and Aones( arranging floor managers for eac&. <ob
+entre Plus in 0re-&am are keen to parallel t&is idea( &a)ing &eard of its considerable success. Part of t&e success
of t&e e)ent was down to positi)e publicity( t&roug& t&e utilisation of a works,e-perience member of staff( w&o
was T proficient( to design a digital ad)ertisement. 0e also &ad a li)e Twitter feed from employers present on t&e
day( a <ob +entre Plus first.
'ased on idea gleamed from a contemporary T5 programme( !ecret 4illions( de)eloped an initiati)e called
Popup Talent. T&e concept of t&is was t&at it was run by young people( for young people( gi)ing t&em t&e c&ance
to B &a)e,a,goC at )arious occupations. T&e programme was fronted by t&e "oyer "ederation. knew a parter
organisation "orum 2ousing were members of t&e "oyer "ederation( and successfully persuaded t&em to broker
me a meeting wit& "oyer. A representati)e came from 8ondon( praising my proacti)e t&inking( and stated t&at
e)en t&oug& &e owned t&e intellectual property for t&at idea( &e would allow me to use it. Granted t&is permission(
organised a two,day e)ent( bringing in employers and partners. T&e stands on offer included c&emistry
e-periments( plastering of walls( sowing tec&ni/ues( and football coac&ing from %)erton "+. T&e main aim was
t&at young people w&o were unsure about future careers( could &a)e a go at )arious occupations( and use t&at
e-perience to &elp decide w&at steps to take ne-t for t&eir respecti)e careers. Publicity for t&e e)ent included a
flas&,mob dancing display in 'irken&ead Precinct( working wit& young people w&o &a)e recently left local
aut&ority care. T&ese people became ambassadors for t&e e)ent( setting up "acebook accounts and organised t&e
aforementioned flas&mob. T&is was all ac&ie)ed wit&out a budget( and recei)ed e-cellent feedback from young
people w&o declared t&at it ac&ie)ed e-actly w&at its target ob.ecti)e &ad beenD inspiring young people and
allowing t&em to e-perience a taste of w&at t&ey wanted in a career.
&a)e e-tensi)e staff,management e-perience( including leading a team of @= ad)isory staff at 0allasey
<ob +entre( e-ceeding performance related targets. T&is included a group of New Deal ad)isor( and we were an
original( pat&finder New Deal office. ssues included staff discipline( sickness procedures and appraisal. 1ne of
my key responsibilities is t&e promotion of !ocial <ustice t&roug&out 4erseyside. de)eloped a forum to w&ic&
ad)isors from e)ery <ob +entre would attend( as well as !enior 4anagers from across t&e region. de)ised and
implemented social .ustice forums( upskilling( teac&ing( e-citing staff from .ob centres across 4erseyside w&o
t&en act as ambassadors( going back to t&eir respecti)e .ob centres and gi)ing a consistent message to t&eir teams.
T&ere were different t&emes in eac& forum. Topics included drugs and alco&ol( and troubled families. Due to my
e-tensi)e local links wit& )arious stake&olders( was able to successfully pro)ide training at no,cast( including
Narcotics Anonymous( w&o performed a li)e s&are,session. &a)e updated a social .ustice das&board w&ic&
monitors performance impro)ements following eac& of t&e social .ustice forums. de)eloped t&e concept of
putting an ad)isor in 1utreac& in a registered social landlord9s premises. T&e idea was concei)ed and concluded
rapidly( being implemented .ust days later. T&is was later e-panded into drugs and alco&ol ser)ices in 0irral( as
well as local aut&ority one stop s&ops. know 6E people found employment as a result of t&is initiati)e.
