So the churches were strengthened in the faith,

and they increased in numbers daily. Acts 16:5

News and Prayer Letter September 2014

This past Saturday, we were able to join with several neighbors in a mini-block party. Our street is too
busy to have a real block party, but several neighbors (including us) opened up their front lawns for
eating, conversing, games, etc. It continued to open doors in building relationships with our neighbors.
Dennis was able to briefly share the Gospel with a friend of one of the neighbors. We were also
encouraged to hear one neighbor say, the reason we dont move is because of you guys. We dont
share this to point to ourselves, but to our great God. We really have a desire to serve and love our
neighbors. Please continue to pray for their salvation.
Community outreach
For the month of August, we were able to supply popcorn to those attending the movies-in-the-park.
This was a great opportunity to meet people and let the community know about what we are doing. The
first couple of weeks was basically just handing out popcorn, but there were a few people that we had
met in different places that we now were able to connect with again. The third week brought a lot of
opportunities. Several people asked about the church and we began seeing familiar faces and tried to
remember names with those faces. Dennis had a great opportunity to share the Gospel with the park
director. Week 4 continued much the same way that week 3 ended. It began with 2 girls giving us a thank
you letter and ended with being able to share the Gospel with 2 different people.
We were sad to see the movie nights end, but the Lord used it to introduce ourselves to others and share
the Gospel. It was also a reminder that it takes a while to change peoples perception of the church, and
it will take continued efforts of love and compassion for the walls of resistance to come down. We were
encouraged to hear things like, my husband just cant believe youre giving out popcorn for free and not
even accepting donations! Pray that God would allow this to open other doors of evangelism.
School begins
Several of you have asked about how Avalons first day of school went. Really, it should have been how
were mom and dads first day of school? Avalon was excited and prepared to get school started, and
has had really no problems making the adjustment. Continue to pray for her school year.
Struggles of church planting
though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 1 Peter 1:6
Everything doesnt always work out as planned when planting a church. In fact, most things dont! After
10 months of working closely with a family that had been very faithful and eager to learn and grow, they
felt it best to move on due to doctrinal differences. To be honest, this was hard. We had invested much
time in them and care for them greatly. Pray for them. Our greatest desire is to see them join with a local
church and continue to grow in Christ. Our fear is that they will not do that. Pray for our group and those
that come on Sundays as there was a lot of critical things said that can easily lead to anger or bitterness.
In all this, we pray that God would be glorified and a united local church be established. Now to Him
who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that
works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Grace and peace,
The Rews
