FARMINGDALE The body of a baby girl was found at
the ReCommunity Recycling facility on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
About 1:30 p.m., State Police troopers from the Hamilton station responded to the facility on Railroad Avenue, where they confirmed the discovery, Trooper Alina Gutierrez-Spies said in a news release.
Police are asking the public for help in locating the
mother of the baby girl, whose remains were found by
an employee moving trash, Gutierrez-Spies said.
Blood-stained clothing was located in close proximity to the body and detectives hope that someone may
recognize these items in order to help identify the
mother, Gutierrez-Spies said.
The baby was pronounced dead at 3:31 p.m. Tuesday
and the body was taken to the Middlesex County Medical Examiners Office in North Brunswick, where an
autopsy was performed.

Governor proposes an emergency

BOB JORDAN @BOBJORDANAPP
ATLANTIC CITY In a year when four Atlantic City casinos have closed,

Gov. Chris Christie declared Wednesday that its time to stop the bleeding at the seaside resort city.
The city had a record $5.2 billion in gaming revenue eight years ago,
but betting has dropped by about half since then as gambling has prolifer-

ated at sites outside New Jersey. Nearly 8,000 casino workers have lost
their jobs this year and another 3,100 positions are on the line if Taj Mahal
shuts down before the end of the year, as expected, which would leave the
city with seven casinos.
Christie said after a summit for elected officials and gaming industry leaders
that potential solutions include establishing a public-private partnership to
lead redevelopment, following a model
that exists in New Brunswick, and putting in place an emergency manager to
oversee the municipal government.
Christie didnt give other details but
warned the city and the gaming industry
wont be able to gamble its way out of a
dire financial hole, and he criticized un-

named former policy makers for getting weak-kneed for failing to reverse
an over-reliance on casino revenue.
There has been a history of weakkneed decision-making that led to this
point, said Christie, who added that the
goal should be to make Atlantic City a
great place to be that just happens to also
have casino gaming available.

TOMS RIVER There was little solace in a courtroom
Wednesday when a judge sentenced a repeat drunken
driver to eight years in prison two years less than the
maximum term for killing Ocean Gate police Officer
Jason Marles in a fiery crash on the Garden State Parkway on Thanksgiving morning in 2010.
But if there was any solace at all, it was that the officer, even in death, did what he dedicated his life to
protecting the public, his mother said.
He got the drunk driver off the road, Marles mother, Patricia Engrassia, said of her son after Erick Uzcategui was sentenced for vehicular homicide. He did
what he was supposed to do.
Engrassia said her son, in his death, may have saved
another life and spared another family a tragedy.
There could have been a car in front of him with two
little children in it, Engrassia said. Like I said, he did
his job that night.
Before the fatal crash, Marles, 32, a nine-year veteran of the Ocean Gate police force, worked an overtime
