Statistical Analysis of Definition Type in the Human Design System,
Basic Solar Design Chart

Abstract: Analysis of Definition Type in the Basic Solar Design Chart shows that Type
can be subdivided into different classifications, i.e., no definition, single definition, split
definition, triple split definition, or quadruple split definition. All groups differentiated
from each other as significant divisions of definition except the quadruple and the nondefined Types.
Introduction: Defined Types Defined
In analyzing a Basic Solar Design Chart (SDC) one of the things looked at is whether the
Channels that have definition connect with each other or not. Depending on how the
defined Channels connect, an individual is considered to have that many splits in their
design. The concept of Definition Type has been used in design as a way of describing a
chart. The construct is useful in describing the SDC of an individual in terms of their
strategy in managing their energetic process in their daily life. It is the purpose of this
paper to present the statistics of frequency of the different definitions and to verify which
of the terms are valid and reliable constructs. (A background of design knowledge is
assumed; for those readers who are unfamiliar with the terminology, References are
provided at the end of this paper).
An individual who has no definition in Type is someone in whom the SDC has no
channels defined; these individuals are Reflectors.
A Single Definition Type applies to a chart where there is definition in a channel or more
than one channel and the channels that have definition forms one stream of connected
energies. A Single definition person is at some level self-contained because their
definition forms a single potential of energy, which reliably flows in them.
A split definition occurs when two areas of separate definition do not connect to each
other. Because of this split in the flow of energy in the split definition chart, that person
always seeks a bridge to link the separate energetic definitions together.
The triple split definition person is someone who has three separate channels of definition
in their SDC that do not connect to each other in the defined channels of energy flow.
These individuals need several bridges to connect these defined channels.

The quadruple split definition is someone who has four separate channels of definition in
their SDC that do not connect to each other in the defined channels of energy flow. Often
these individuals have all centers defined but not all connect to each other.
Research Methodology
Sampling is of critical importance in any scientific study. Preliminarily, a group of 5000
general population birth dates were randomly selected by Neutrinos for Rave Life
Sciences for the years 1917 through 1975 to approximate the clinical subgroup
populations with which we were working (i.e., Fibromyalgia patients from our medical
practice, an addict group, i.e., patients who had been treated in an addiction clinic, an
AIDS group, a heart attack group). In astrological research, as in other research, it is
crucial to use the same time frames so that variables related to global conditions that
might be influential equally affect the study groups. In astrological terms, for example, a
transit of Pluto or Neptune should be equally present in all charts under consideration or
the results might be skewed and misleading. In addition, adjustments for latitude and
longitude must be made and considered. All of these issues were controlled in our
samples. Because our data is astrologically related, we worked with a paradigm that is
astrologically and scientifically rigorous. The astrological methodology meets the
standard for astrological research set forth by Astrodatabank. It also meets social
scientific research design standards.
After delineating our sample parameters and groups, the birth chart data was imported
into the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for analysis. An outside
statistician was consulted for verification of data processing and results. Initial frequency
statistics were run.
We replicated the results with two other groups of 5000 random birth dates also between
1917 and 1975. Two additional randomized groups of general population charts for the
years 1900-2000 were run. These charts were generated by Jigsaw, a different
astrological program than Neutrinos for Unified Life Sciences. By using two different
programs to generate our database we felt secure that we were not skewing the database
in any unknown and/or regular way. This technique helped us feel that our data was
clean and could meet the test of statistical scrutiny. We, thus, analyzed 5 general
population samples of 5000 each and compared them for frequency of occurrence of
Definition Type. In total, with our clinical groups included, we analyzed over 30,000
controlled sample case records.
Results
All general populations showed the same basic patterns of frequency of occurrence of
Definition Type. The Frequency and Percent Occurrence in a representative group of
5000 people in a general population is presented in Table 1 and Graph 1. Only results
from one representative sample are presented for simplicity. The final statistics on
subgroups has not been fully analyzed yet for clinical diagnostic differences in the
subgroups on the variable of Definition Type. Although on the surface, the statistical
frequency of Definition Type is similar in subgroups, some differences do appear which

may or may not be statistically significant. Thus, the data presented here applies to
general populations only and not to clinically distinct subgroups within the population.

Table 1 and Graph 1 show that 0.9 percent of the general population have No Definition
in Type. This percentage corresponds with our statistics in Type in General as reported in
earlier papers (cf. Bibliography). 39.9 percent of the general population is a Single
Definition Type. 46.0 percent of the general population is a Split Definition Type. 12.5

percent of the general population is a Triple Split Definition Type. 0.7 percent of the
general population is a Quadruple Definition Type.
Frequency percentages were analyzed using a Z-Test to determine that the differences
between each Definition Type compared to each other Definition Type in the WRD for
the general population of 5000 cases. The Z-Test is a non-parametric measurement that
tests for significant differences between two groups. Table 2 shows the results of the ZTests.

From Table 2 it is apparent that all Definition Types shows distinct differentiated
significance from one another except for the No Definition Type and the Quadruple
Definition Type.
Interpretation
The findings on Definition Type confirm that Definition Type is a valid and reliable
construct to use. All Definition Types are distinct from one another except in the case of
the No Definition Type and the Quadruple Definition Type, which do not differentiate
from each other. In all other cases the distinction is a useful and valid one which yields
information reliable beyond chance alone at the 99% level of confidence. The frequency
distribution conforms to what one would expect from observation of charts. The Single
Definition Type and the Split Definition Type occur most frequently and almost equally,
although there are more Split Definition Types than Single Definition Types. Triple
Definition Types although significantly more frequent than the No Definition Type or the
Quadruple Definition Type, is considerably less frequent in occurrence than the Single or
Split Definition Type.
When an individual knows their Type and then adds to that knowledge the Definition
Type, they are equipped with a surface map of the mechanics of their energy flow within
their Waking Awareness. It is useful to take the construct of Type to a more specific level
of how that energy flows in the organism itself. It allows an individual to assess how
critical another person (or animal) as a bridge to their energy center flow in order for
them to feel a sense of unity and completeness within their own being. An individual with
a Single Definition Type has a flow of energy which is self contained within them.

However, a person with a Split Definition has a break in the flow of energy within them
so they need a bridge, i.e., the energy of another being, or a transit to allow the energy to
bridge the gap. It is as though the link on the hard drive mechanism of the brain or
cellular associations in this person seeks its mate in order to fire smoothly and reliably.
The same is true in the Triple Split and Quad Split.
It comes as no surprise with the rarity of the Quadruple Definition Type and of the No
Definition Type (Reflector) that these two Types do not differentiate from one another.
The low frequency of occurrence makes them statistically less differentiated. In fact, the
data suggest that from a practical standpoint the Quadruple and No Definition Types may
have many similarities of functioning because all or none may become one, i.e., operate
in a similar way experientially. This would need to be clinically determined, however,
and validated from this level of exploration.
It is interesting from a practical functional standpoint, however, that the Single Definition
Type and the Split Definition Type have similar frequency of occurrence. These numbers
confirm the underlying foundation of the human energetic, i.e., seeking after the one and
also existing in a binary/ duality.
With the significance of Definition Type being confirmed, we have a further refinement
within the categorization of Type, which can facilitate an individuals understanding of
the mechanics of their energy flow within their organism. The comprehension of whether
an individual has No Definition, a Single, Split, Triple, or Quadruple Definition can
enhance the understanding that an individual has of himself.
Conclusion
Definition Type as used in the HDS differentiates a significant construct in the general
population. It serves to describe an energetic phenomenon in the Body Graph, which
breaks down the construct of Type into a further refinement to enhance the understanding
of the flow of energy in an individual based on their Type. Confirmation of the scientific
validity of this construct gives further foundation to the HDS as a body of useful
information for an individual.
