From the desk of His Excellency, Prince Walls

Today, our nation has received news from correspondents in the West that the Balkan League,
consisting of Serbia and Greece, have solidified their strength after a dispute weeks ago with former
member nation, Bulgaria over control of Macedonia. Upon being challenged, Serbia and Greece
promptly defeated them, forcing Bulgaria to give up any and all Macedonian claims to territory. This
should be viewed as a threat to the sovereignty of all nations and territories thereof and must not go
unnoticed. As a former territory of France and loyal ally, we, The Principality of Elsa, have shared
interests in ensuring that surrounding land claims of the French are properly observed, with a watchful
eye, to prevent encroachment. Also, it is pertinent that we secure our own claims to land, preparing to
defend them in the event that the Balkan League seeks to target us. Our interests are of the utmost
importance. We did not declare independence nearly thirty years ago only to have our rights stolen in
the night. We must remain vigilant, always, in preparation and in observation, never reacting, but
instead being proactive. Our diplomats are currently in discussion with leadership in France. In the
meantime, members of the Elsenian Defense Force have been deployed among the islands and are now
stationed at strategic points to keep watch for incoming vessels. Soldiers will remain at a heightened
readiness until it is made clear that our nations' safety and independence are secure.
Engineers contracted from mainland America have succeed in constructing a tower for the new
telephone system to be installed at the Capitol of Avalon on the island of Elsa. The new system is the
first of its kind here, within the Principality of Elsa. It is my hope that it will aid us in broadening our
horizons through better communication among the Elsan Islands and even further, with the world. This
enormous expense is seen as justified as we seek to modernize our islands. The project was funded with
designated foreign aid funds that were received from our French allies.
A federal contract was secured at the beginning of this month as an agreement was reached in
trade negotiations with Great Britain. Both sides have signed off on a deal that should bring significant
income and notability to our Elsenian nation. The agreement reads that The sovereign Principality of
Elsa shall be intrusted to supply Great Britain with a total of two million nine hundred and ninety
grams of the pearls harvested from the Elsenian coast each two years for a set period of one thousand
four hundred and sixty day. The pearls will be supplied at a reduced cost that is to be negotiated at the
beginning of each yearly cycle. If successful in meeting our trade obligations with Britain for the first
four years allotted, officials oversees have promised to sign an extended contract, opening the doors to
a prolonged partnership.
The future is bright. We have made great strives as a people, let us continue.
His Excellency,

Prince Walls
