INTERFACES
AC Prime Power Requirements:
Voltage

115VAC, single phase

Current

15A circuit or greater

Other

Do not run on a Ground Fault Interrupt protected circuit.

Note: It is advisable to run unit off a circuit with no ground fault
interrupt (GFI). The unit is high power and has a number of decoupling
capacitors for noise that connect to ground. There may be enough
current on the ground to trip a sensitive GFI circuit.

Mechanical Interfaces:
There are four mechanical mounting points, two each on two sides. Each takes a 1/4-20 screw
which will not protrude further than 0.30 into the unit. The mounting points are depicted here
on the mechanical drawing as the features described with the 2X 1/4-20 UNC
.30 callout.
Full mechanical drawings can be found in the Outline and Mounting Drawings section.
Note: Do not use screws that are too long. When installing mounting hardware, if it feels
like the screw is bottoming out, check the screw length to be sure the screw is not too long.

Operating Instructions
Unpacking
Keep the shipping box and all packing materials for future use including return of the Unit for
repair.
Check the Unit for any visible damage. If the Unit is damaged, call Wavestream for an RMA
number.

Inspect Interfaces
Inspect connectors and connector pins and remove any foreign objects such as packing material.

Perform Continuity Check on the Cables

Doc. 90-005-0017 Rev. X02

Matchbox AC-DC Supply

Even if the cables have been made in advance, it is important to use and ohm meter to perform a
continuity check on each of the individual wires. Incorrect wiring could permanently damage the
Unit.
Pin-out tables are included at the end of this manual.

Installation and Connections

Proceed with installation according to standard practice.
See section on Mounting for mounting point specifications. Make sure that any screws used to
mount the unit are the correct length.
Connect the Output DC Power and Monitor and Control (J1) connector to the MatchBox Input
DC Power and Monitor and Control.
Connect the Monitor and Control (J2) connector. Note: the monitor and control signals are
simply passed through the AC/DC Power Supply Unit from the MatchBox. For details on the
M/C signals, see MatchBox Manual.
Connect the AC Prime Input (J3) connector to Prime AC Power source.
Note: Do not connect power to the Unit until the MatchBox is installed on the feed
and antenna. The MatchBox emits high power RF energy which could be harmful to the
human body.

Transmit Enable Configuration

Note: the monitor and control signals are simply passed through the AC/DC Power Supply Unit
from the MatchBox. For details on the M/C signals, see MatchBox Manual.
Hard-wired Enable:
If it is desired that the unit enables RF operation as soon as power is applied without
having to send a command, the unit should have a hard-wire TX Enable wire installed. To do this,
connect pin A (Secondary GND) to pin B (/TX_EN) on J2.
Once TX Enable is hardwired to be enabled, there is no way to disable the unit using
commands. The unit must be powered down to disable it.
Discrete Enable:
If it is desired that the unit enables RF operation using the discrete enable signal without
having to send a command, the unit should be wired to an open collector on the customer side.
To do this, connect pin A (Secondary GND) and pin B (/TX_EN) on J2 to the customer open
collector circuit.
Once TX Enable is enabled using the discrete signal, there is no way to disable the unit
using commands. The open collector circuit can be switched so that /TX_EN is not grounded, or
the unit may be powered down to disable it.
RS-485 Serial Command Enable:
If it is desired that the unit enables RF operation using a serial command enable signal,
the unit should be have the serial wires connected as follows:
Pin

Unit Signal
Name

Customer Side
Connection

RX-

TX-

RS-485 GND

Ground

TX-

RX-

RX+

TX+

TX+

RX+

If the unit is powered down, the unit will automatically come up disabled and a serial
command must be sent to enable the unit. For more information about the M/C serial operation
of the unit, see the MatchBox Manual.
