From The Commodore

That was quite a cold
spell we encountered
the last two weeks. It
reminds me of my grade
school days before
global warming when
we had to wait for
Thanksgiving before we
could hope for any
snow. I remember waking up every day of
Thanksgiving break and
pulling the blind at first
light to see if it had
snowed. We usually had
to wait until Christmas
break before we had
good enough ice in the
lagoon to commence
another season of ice
hockey with the Lays,
Dracka, Bugby, Hablitzels, Kaufmans, Eshelmans and some I do
not remember. Jeff B
said he distinctly remembers finishing the
games at Bell Mells.
Jim Amato remembers
scheduled PCYC ice
skating events with big
bonfires along the
banks of the lagoon.

John Stefano constructed an ice rink

when he was Commodore. I thought that
was a good idea until
the last cold spell. Do I
really want to shovel the
snow off the ice and
flood the rink every
night?
This year has disappeared. Thank you to
our members for your
hard work on all the
committees throughout
the year. It was truly a
pleasure serving as your
Commodore with everyones great help and
support. I especially
want to thank the Planning Committee for
their dedication and
direction the past few
years.
November was highlighted by the 25Th anniversary of Eickerts stupendous Oktoberfest,
the Annual Meeting,
and a fantastic and
memorable Commodores Ball. Those who

were able to attend were

treated to an amazing
evening at the PCYC
Buckeye Tailgate and
Ball. I cannot thank the
Commodores Ball
committee enough for
your efforts. I will long
remember the great
meal prepared and
served by our members
and the transformation
of the clubhouse with
the phenomenal decorations. The picture of
the speeding quarterback on the ticket really
was me a few years ago.
I was in Dental school
in 1975 when a classmate from Bowling
Green said he was on
their yearbook staff and
found a picture of me
from the game.
The riser crew did
their exceptional job in
record time this year. I
understand that Tiffany
Alexander and Tara
Nilson were responsible
for organizing and giving exceptional guid-

ance and support to their

spouses!
One last big project
for the year is leaf removal. We hope to complete this over the next
six weeks. I am predicting mild weather until
New Years Eve. Contact

Chuck or Eric if you

can help out.
We also concluded
the first eight-week
session of ballroom
dancing. One of our
instructors, Ann
Duez, was preparing to
Cont on pg. 2.

Gift Ideas

From my perspective, my
job as the Rear Commodore is almost complete.
With December comes
our Christmas Open
House event and the
Change of Watch. Then
Christmas will soon follow.
We have completed many
projects throughout the
year. Many more are on
the drawing board and
will be continued on into
next year. I must thank
Commodore Mike Hablitzel and Vice Commodore
Don Rodwancy for all
their guidance and confidence in helping me
throughout 2014. Both
our caretaker Eric, and
Club House Manager PC
Chuck Reichman have
been great to work with
throughout the year. I can
only hope that I helped
make this a better place
for our members. Thanks
to all you guys along with
our board for all your

help and support. Many

new great friendships and
memories have been
made this year. One person that has assisted and
supported me the most is
my wife Candy. Thanks
for your patience and help
throughout the year. I
couldnt have done it
without you.
One project of note that
we will be hearing from
your Flag and Board
about soon is our pool.
We have come to that
crossroad where we must
complete a renovation
project just to keep it
open. Our pool is an important priority for our
members. Stay tuned, we
have been working that
last few months to weigh
our options.
You may have noticed
that our marina is ready
for winter (other than
because it is icing over).
Steve Alexander and his

crew of mighty men and

women completed the
pulling of the risers. I
personally, along with all
our members appreciate
your efforts in completing
this heavy task. It is definitely a young persons
sport.
Soon as 2014 comes to a
close our new Rear Commodore will be taking
over. I am confident that
our club will be in good
hands with our new Rear
Commodore Dave Obergefell. Good luck Dave,
Im sure you will do a
great job. Please give him
the support you have
given me and continue to
volunteer as you may be
requested on occaissions.
As I started the year, I will
finish the year. This is

your club, use it and have

fun.

perform in our local Dancing with the Stars. She took our best wishes Break a Leg literally, changed it a bit,
and broke her hip on last weeks ice. We wish you a speedy recovery. There has been interest expressed in continuing with another session in January. If you are interested please contact Ann or myself.
December starts off with clubhouse Christmas Decorating by Dave and Cindy Obergefell and crew, The Childrens Christmas Party, and the Annual Christmas Open House followed by the impressive Change of Watch
Ceremony. New Years Eve at the club is a good place to watch the Walleye Drop and Fireworks from the comfort of our bar.
Finally a jib sheet article completed before midnight and before deadline. Thanks Tammy for your understanding. Once again, many thanks for a fun filled year at PCYC.
Your almost Past Commodore,
Commodore Michael Hablitzel

Fleet Captain of Sail

The sailboats are put
away. The safety boats
are winterized. The canvas covers are getting
stitched. Sailors young
and old are already
dreaming of summer
sailing.
Congratulations to Jim
Miller for being elected
Fleet Captain of
Sail. Matt Wenzinger
Director of the Jr. Race
Team and the Learn to
sail program.

Cliff Ruckstuhl Auxiliary Sail, Sara Hanselman Sail Fleet Treasurer and Linda
Sprenger Sail Fleet Secretary.
We have a great club
and a terrific sailing
program for all ages of
our members. It was my
privilege to hold the
Sail Fleet Captain position. I would like to
thank all the past Flag

officers and Board

members for all their
support in helping me
keep our sailing program great. Also a special thanks to Dave
Nighswander, during
his fleet captain days he
created a tight and organized framework that
continues to keep the
proverbial boat upright
and strong.

Fleet Captain of Power

As 2015

nears, here is a
look back at the 2014
Power Fleet events. The
Power Fleet had a total
of seven events for the
year, which were spread
through the summer.

February: Wine Cruise

April: PIB Ice Breaker
June: Sandusky Yacht
Club Cruise-Out
July: Dingy Poker Run
July: Grosse Pointe
Yacht Club Cruise-Out
August: Kelly's Island
September: PIB Miller
Dock

event a success. It is
great to see the number
of members who participate in the CruiseOuts. There was never
a lack of volunteers to
lend a helping hand and
for that I am very grateful. Plans for 2015 are
in the works. Please
let me know if you have
any suggestions.
