1.2 The impact of legal, regulatory and ethical considerations to the recruitment
and selection process
The recruitment and selection process is going beyond some statutory rules and legal
implication. When the human resource manager of city link starts recruitment process,
he/she should be aware of some rule and regulation. Awareness of rules and regulation
help city link to minimize risk, job posting, interview question, checking job offers, etc.
There are different types of law related with recruitment and selection process such as
sex discriminatory act, race relation act, employment equality (age) regulation, etc. All
organizations are bound to follow those laws (Dessler, 2011). The impacts of legal,
regulatory and ethical consideration to the recruitment and selection process are
described below:
Impact of sex discriminatory act
City link is bound to maintain the sex discriminatory act. If any candidate is qualified for
their job whether the person is male or female, city link is bound to recruit him/her. It
cannot discriminate in the ground of sex.
Impact of race relation act
If the job advertisement calls for particular race or nationality, it will break the provision
of race relation act. The person who has legal work permission in UK is qualified for the
job of City link regardless to his/her nationality or race.
Impact of equality (age) regulation
Both young and old citizens get same benefit in recruitment and selection process. If the
human resource managers of City link gives special privileges to any of two group, it will
be unlawful and break the provision of equality (age) regulation.
Impact of law in Advertising stage
When the human resource manager give advertisement of job, he/she should make
sure that it is not discriminatory against any sex, age, race, ethnicity, gender, nationality,
etc. He/she should make sure that advertisement does not break the law. The
advertisement process is going beyond obeying law.

Impact of law in Interview stage

Interview process of city link must obey the law. The interview board should not ask any
question that affect one`s religious view or nationality. They should not use any sexist
comment. They should treat people equally and avoid personal biasness. They should
not treat disable person in interview as a disable (Dessler, 2011).

Impact of right to employment

The interview board should check whether the candidate have legal right to work in UK
or not. They should check the criminal record of the candidate.
Impact of statement of employment
The new employee has to get a statement of employment that includes all terms about
his salary, hours of work, holiday, etc.

1.3 Take part in the selection process

After giving advertisement the next task of human resource department to take part in
selection process. The human resource manager plays a significant role in selection
process. The selection process is consists of several sequential task. How the human
resource department of take part in selection process is given below:

Selecting a recruitment and selection panels

The human resource department selects a recruitment and selection panel for selecting
employee for appointment. The member of recruitment and selecting panels are
selected by the human resource director of city link. City link is going to employ three

types of new staff. So, the human resource department selects three recruitment and
selection panel. In each panel the director of particular department in which new
employee is recruited is present. The recruitment and selection panel take the interview
of new candidate.

Short listing
After receiving application of candidates, the recruitment and selection panels make a
short list of applicants by using different short listing method. Some popular short listing
methods are IQ test, taking examination by using MCQ examination, written exam, etc.
The short list of applicant should be given to the human resource department as soon
as possible. After getting the short list the human resource department arrange
interview for short listed candidates (Stebe, 2013).
Interviews
The recruitment and selection panels of city link take the interview of selected
candidates. In interview they asked question about themselves, their background, their
educational background, their experience, about their knowledge, cultural background,
etc (Hyde, 2012).
Appointment
The recruitment and selection panels recommend for the applicants who satisfy the
selection panels by attaining minimum criteria for those jobs for final appointment. The
human resource department gives final appointment statement to those applicants who
are recommended by recruitment and selection panels (Dessler, 2011).

1.4 Evaluation my own contribution to the selection process

In the assignment I take part in preparing documents necessary for selection of
employees. Then I give advertisement to gather employees. I also take part in selecting
the recruitment panels for selection of new staff for city link. I play my role in short listing
applicants and take part in giving interviews. I play my role from preparing document to
appoint new employees.

2. The styles and impact of leadership

Leadership is very important role of managers. A manager is leader and a leader is also
manager. A leader play more significant role than a manager. There are different types
of leadership. Each types of leadership have some positive and negative impact on
management. City link is going to enlarge its business by creating a new division. This
part of this assignment about leadership styles necessary for this new division, what
types of quality necessary for that leader and different motivational technique (Griffin,
2009).

2.1 Whether the person has the traits of manager or leader

The directors of city link decide to open a new division to expand its business. They also
employ a person who takes the responsibility of the new division. Now the question
comes whether the person has the traits of a manager or leader. In our opinion the
person should have the traits of a leader. The argument for why the person should have
the traits of leader is given below:
The person is responsible for a new division. If the person has the traits of a
manager only, he will not be able to maintain the division effectively.

The leader has the traits of leader as well as manager. Because if a person
cannot managerial ability, he will not be a leader. But the leader has some
special traits which help to maintain the new division more successfully.
The person should have to the traits of leader because he has to lead the
division besides manages the division to profitability (Griffin, 2009).

2.2 What management or leadership approach should be followed by the person

There are different types of leadership or management approach. Those are democratic
leadership, autocratic leadership, paternalistic leadership, laissez faire leadership,
transformational leadership, etc. In our opinion the democratic leadership is best and
the responsible person of the new division should follow the democratic approach of
leadership to lead the new division.
Democratic leadership
Democratic leadership is a form of participating leadership. In this approach the
employee participate in decision making process. Before taking decision manager take
the opinion of superior. In democratic leadership the employee is not out of
responsibility. So, the person should follow the democratic style of leadership.

2.3 comparisons among different types of leadership

Among all types of leadership the democratic leadership is best. Because in democratic
leadership all employees participate in decision making process. So, they are
motivated. If the person follows the autocratic leadership, it will increase dissatisfaction
among employee. Because in autocratic leadership the manager only takes all decision.
If the person follows the paternalistic approach of leadership, it will also have the
chance of raising dissatisfaction among employee. Because in paternalistic approach of
leadership no employee is given independence, all decision is taken by the manager.
But in real case employee demand freedom and they want to take part in decision
making process. So, paternalistic approach of leadership is not suitable for city link`s

new division. In laissez faire approach of leadership all employees are decision maker.
So, it creates conflict among the employee because the manager does not play any role
in decision making. Laissez faire approach of leadership is not suitable for new branch.
So, we can concluded that the democratic approach of leadership is best for city link`s
new division (Griffin, 2009).

2.4 The ways to motivate staff to achieve objectives

There are different motivational approaches for motivating employees to achieve
objectives of organization. Those are Maslows need hierarchy theory, two factor theory,
X & Y theory.

City link should use Maslow`s need hierarchy theory to motivate

employee to achieve its objective. City link follow Maslow`s hierarchy of need theory by
following ways.
Reasonable payment
City link should ensure a reasonable salary for all employees. If all employees get a
handsome salary, they will be motivated. Because it fulfill their physical needs and help
to fulfill their psychological needs.
Treat all employees with respect
The culture of treating all employees with respect is a bridging factor to motivate the
employee. Because it fulfill the need of social prestige and social respect.
Besides Maslows need hierarchy theory city link should follow different motivational
technique to motivate employees.

3.1 How can group culture/team working contribute to the success of City Link?

Team work is very much beneficial for the success of the organization itself. The most
popular belief is that team is the best way to share the skills of the team members.
When the team members are not individually responsible for their success or failure, but
they can depend on one another. This unity of knowledge and skill make the way to

success. Here we can discuss some points about the Way how team work can

workers that can reduce the work overloads. The employees can share their ideas in
many sectors. They can also share their responsibilities. It also reduces the pressure of
work for the related employers, they can assign to the other members to avoid the

may have their work specialization of their own and by these they can make an
integrated performance.

oriented in their team work. As a leader or as a member they are very much successful
in their team work. We can consider their team roles applying the Belbins team roles

The team of City Link is much more effective in the competitive world. While working in
the other environment, they need diversity of knowledge and experience. The team of
the City link has the diversity of knowledge in their team that helps them to overcome

the challenges they usually faces. Team work needs proper ethical code of behavior in
working with different people in the team. They should have proper respect to their other
members. These helps them to work effectively and efficiently in the team. The team
also follow the Belbins Team Role model which have different aspects to make the
team so much effective and helpful. For the team of the City Link they have the
appropriate roles to accomplish the goals of the organization.
Task 4
How will this new divisions staff performance be measured and monitored
to ensure that organizational objectives are achieved?
The new employees should be measured their performance. We can consider some
ways by which City Link can measure and monitor their performance.
4.1

Setting up random methods:

The city Link can use random methods of quality control in the organization.
The workers should not conform the checking time to make them conscious
every time. They will be very much attentive in their work to pass their check
criteria.
Surveying clients and customers:
City Link should make survey their clients and customers about their service as
the method of measuring the employees performance.
Performance appraisal:
The organization should made proper performance appraisal for the staffs. It
should follow the performance quality of the staffs who are providing the

City Link is very much famous for its services within the England and Ireland. They
are also trying establish their growing business in the outside world. In this process,
it needs to provide their new employees with highly qualified training and learnings.
Firstly we can identify effective learning styles.
Training need analysis:

The company has to analysis the training need first. We may think about some need
assessments.
An analysis of the organizations strategies, goals, and objectives.
Person analysis; analyzing the potential participants and instructors who are
involved in the process.
Analyzing the work or task: City Link has to analyze the main task of their
employees who need the training.
Analyzing the performance: the training must be provided with based on the
performance they are showing.
Analyzing the content: City link must be clear what type of knowledge,
information, and experience they needed in order to run their business task.
Training suitability analysis: City Link must be ensured about the suitability of
the training. They must provide with appropriate training which really helpful
(Dessler, 2011) are.
The training process:
The training process includes some steps. Those can be pointed here.

Organizational Objectives
Needs Assessment
Is There a Gap?
Training Objectives
Select the Trainees
Select the Training Methods and Mode
Choose a Means of Evaluating
Administer Training
Evaluate the Training

4.3 How could you evaluate the success of the whole assessment process in
relation to activities suggested?
The employees must provide the training to work effectively and efficiently in the
changing environment. The new employees need the orientation training for their
employees. After providing the training, they also need to evaluate the assessment of
the training process. The assessment process includes the survey to assess the
consequences of the training. They have to evaluate the result of training measuring of
the job performance or productivity.
Conclusion:
In fine, the leadership is the important factor to perform in the new task in a new
environment. There are some leaders who can make radical change to the organization
and make the organization competent to work in the changing background. The leaders

can face the challenges which are invented in the new organizational environment. If
the employees follow and practice proper leadership the organization can be successful
in the competitive world.
