A psycohologist claims that the mean age at which children start walking is 12.5 months. Carol
wanted to check if this claim is true. She took a random sample of 18 children and found that
the mean age at which these children started walking was 12.9 months with a standard deviation
of 0.80 month. Using 1% significance level, can you conclude that the mean age at which all
children start walking is different from 12.5 months?

A peony plant with red petals was crossed with another plant having streaky petals. A geneticist
states that 75% of the offspring resulting from this cross will have red flowers. To test this
claim, 100 seeds from this cross were collected and germinated and 58 had red petals.
a) Construct a 95% confidence interval for the offspring resulting the cross will have red
flowers.
b) What hypothesis should you use to test the geneticist`s claim at 5% significance level?

Predict the percentage of lung damage for a person who has smoked for 30 years.
Test the hypothesis if there is significant correlation between number of years people
smoked and the percentage of lung damage at 0.05.
Find the coefficient of determination and explain it.

Consider the following partially completed two-way ANOVA table. Suppose there are four
levels of Factor A and three levels of Factor B. The number of replications per cell is 5.
Complete the table and test to determine if there is a significant difference in Factor A, Factor
B, or interaction. Use the 0.05 significance level. (Hint: Complete the ANOVA table first)

The duration of Alzheimers disease from the onset of symptoms until death ranges from 3 to
20 years; the average is 8 years with a standard deviation of 4 years. The administrator of a large

In a study of annual family expenditures for general health care, two populations were surveyed with the
following results:
Population 1: n1 = 40,
Population 2: n2 = 35,
x1 = $346
x2 = $300
If the variances of the populations are
1 = 2800 and 2 = 3250, what is the probability that the means of the two populations are

A Taxi company purchased two brands of tires, brand A and brand B. It is known that the mean
distance travelled before the tires wear out is 36300km for brand A with standard deviation
200km while the mean distance travelled before the tires wear out is 36100km for brand B with
standard deviation of 300km. A random sample of 36 tires of brand A and brand B are taken.
What is probability that the difference between the mean distance travelled before the tires of
brand A and brand B wear out is at most 300km?
