LODHI ABAD KHATAK MAIRA

INTRODUCTION
This revised cost estimate amounting to Rs. 8.783 million has been framed to get its
revised administrative approval from the competent authority. The scheme was
administratively approved for Rs. 6.898 million vide Secretary to Government of NWFP,
Works & Services Department letter No. SO (Tech) W&S/3-21/2008 dated 02.02.2009
(copy enclosed) and reflects in current ADP 2009-10 at Serial No. 236/70633 under the
nomenclature Construction of 100 drinking water & sanitation scheme in NWFP.
LOCATION
Village Khattak Maira is situated at a distance of 12 kilometer from Abbottabad on
Abbottabad Mansehra road. The area is consisted of rural and urban abadis in which
Qalandarabad is famous commercial center and its importance is also due to modern
missionary hospital. The entire area is linked with the Abbottabad Mansehra road through
metalled road. The facilities like electricity, post office, secondary education for boys and
girls are available in the area.
EXISTING WATER ARRANGEMENT
Khattak Maira Village is a part of main village Bandi Dhundan which is being served
through existing net work of village Bandi Dhundan which was constructed during 197475 based on a gravity flow system. With the passage of time the discharge of the gravity
water source was considerably reduced. Due to less discharge and increase in the
population, the existing pipe network can not meet the present day demand of the area.
Hence the people are facing difficulties for getting drinking water.
In order to solve the drinking water problem, it is necessary to provide a proper drinking
water supply scheme.
REASON FOR REVISION
This cost estimate is revised due to the following reasons:
1.
Increase in the length of rising main due to resistivity recommended point
(tube well successfully installed).
2.
Increase in cost of pumping machinery because of high head involved from
the successfully installed tube well.
PROPOSAL
As mentioned above the yield of existing water source is not sufficient to cover the
present demand of the area. No other gravity water source is available in the nearby
vicinity from which a gravity scheme can be based. The only option left is the ground
water.
An estimate amounting to Rs. 6.898 million was prepared and got approved from the
competent authority with the following sub heads:1.
Tube well
2.
Pumping Chamber
3.
Pumping Machinery
4.
Rising Main

5.
Storage Tank 20,000 gallons
6.
Distribution System
As per administratively approved PC-I work on installation of tube well was
started after carrying out resistivity servey. Having successful result, the trial bore was
converted into tube well. The yield of tube well was tested as 6000 gallons per hour with
drawn down of 50 feet. From newly drilled tube well, water will be pumped through 4
dia 7200 meter long rising main upto 20,000 gallons proposed storage tank which will be
constructed at a commanding place. From where water will be further distributed under
gravity through proposed/ existing distribution net work. After completion of the project,
the people will get drinking water @ 15 g.p.c.d through house connections.

CHAMNAKA
INTRODUCTION
This detailed estimate amounting to RS 12.292 million has been prepared to get
technical sanction from the competent authority for completion of allied work of water
supply scheme Chamnaka to make it beneficial for the community.
The project stands at Serial No. /60319 in the ADP 2006-2007 with block
allocation of Rs. 33.817 million. The project completion of incomplete scheme Phase-III
was administratively approved for Rs. 495.689 million including District Abbottabad
share costing Rs. 33.817 million comprising of 3 Nos. scheme out of which the cost of
water supply scheme Chamnaka is Rs. 11.600 million. Adminstrative Approved issued
vide Secretary to Government of NWFP, Works & Services Department No. SO(Tech)
W&S/3-21/2005 dated 10.02.2007 (copy enclosed).
LOCATION
Village Chamnaka is located in South East of Abbottabad at a distance of about 14
kilometers from Havelian and 27 kilometers from proper Abbottabad city. The village is
connected through metal led road of about 2 kilometers from the main Havelian Bodla
road. The village consists of two hamlets namely Hajia and Chamnaka spread on both
sides of the Doona Katha. Basic facilities like health, education, electricity, telephone,
post office and potable water exist in the project area.
EXISTING WATER ARRANGEMENT
A small gravity based water supply scheme was completed by the defunct Public
Health Engineering Department during the year 1981-82 at a completion cost of Rs.
0.565 million with mode of service based on community tanks. The existing project has
completed its design life. However during drought, the locals are not getting water
according to their need as a result of which they usually face acute water shortage in the
area.
Keeping in view the increase in population, rehabilitation in the scheme was approved
under DERA Phase-I Programme with a total cost of Rs. 1.200 million in the year 20032004 with a scope of work as under:1.
Sub Heads: - Tube Well
=
2 Nos.

2.

Sub Heads: - Pumping Chamber

2 Nos.

The above work is successfully completed in year 2003-2004 with a cost of Rs.
1075174/-. In order to complete the project and make functional the following sub heads
of work are includes in this estimate.
1.
2.
3.

Sub Heads: - Pumping Machinery/ External Electrification

Sub Heads: - Rising Main/ Distribution System
Sub Heads: - Surface Tanks 10,000 Gallons (2 Nos.)

PROPOSAL
It is proposed to divide the entire project area into two sectors. Each sector shall its
independent distribution net work and zoing system. Two Nos. tube wells have
successfully been drilled in the project vicinity each having a discharge of 4000 G.P.H are
quit sufficient to cater the water demand of the project area upto 2004.
For Sector-I it is proposed to utilize the already installed tube well giving a discharge of
4000 G.P.H marked as TW-I on site plan and comprises from zone-1 to zone-24. Water
from the tube well-1 shall be pumped to a surface reservoir of 10,000 gallons capacity
marked as T1 on site plan through a 4 dia G.I welded joint pipe line.
For Sector-II, it is suggested to utilize the tube well No. 2 also having a discharge of 4000
G.P.H and marked as TW-2 on site plan with zoing comprises from 25 to 49. Water
from tube well-2 shall be pumped through a welded joint pipe line to a surface tank of
10,000 gallons capacity marked as T2 on site plan.
The locals of Sector-I & II will get their water requirement in the form of house
connections at a consumption rate of 15 G.P.C.D through a hydraulically desined net
work of distribution system.
