Course Summary and Aims
This subject contributes to the achievement of the 4of the PGDM programs 12 outcomes. It
will provides students understanding of Human Resource Management as an integrated and
strategic business process as well as the Indian and global scenario of Industrial Relation and
trends. The objective of the subject is to make students undertake critical reflective thinking
and practice that will open new ways and promote ideas for companys competitive
advantage. The overall aim of the subject is helping students develop the necessary skills
required for a manager in the contemporary business world.
Subject Learning Outcomes
a. Demonstrate high degree of People skills to manage relations in business context.
Developing insights in people management concern and learn how to align and
integrate HR subsystems for enhancing organizational effectiveness.
b. Critically analyse situations for forward thinking through innovation.
c. Demonstrate high level of cross-cultural understanding .Developing cross cultural
competency to understand, design & execute HR subsystems in MNCs.
d. To help them understand the different HR subsystems and tools/techniques required
for effective management of people.
e. Demonstrate understanding of social responsibilities in business context.
f. Clarifying problems and mapping alternatives and setting decision criteria (Outcome
3.1).
g. Understanding Industrial Relation scenario and trends in India and the world.
Teaching Pedagogy
The course will be primarily based on interactive lectures, discussions, presentations, and
class exercises. Case studies, case-lets, group presentations, role play and group exercises
will be used in the class to illustrate concepts and practices.

Introduction to Industrial Relations (IR) and its relevance


Definition, approaches and relevant models, and trends, The actors &
the impact of social, economic, political and technological features of
the context on the shaping of these relationships in IR challenges of IR
in India and its comparison of IR practices in selected countries. Future
of IR in India.

Introduction to International HRM


Introduction to the specialized HR processes & issues in management
of people in global organizations (MNCs);International HR processes,
such as international recruitment and selection; expatriate training &
appraisal; international compensation; and expatriation and repatriation
issues.
