Christmas

This week we are learning:

Circle Time Review
In circle time we have been opening an
advent calendar each day to help the
students with their dates and to prepare
Christmas vocabulary. In the run up to
Christmas it will get more and more exciting!
We will also be practicing the Christmas
songs that we have been learning as it is
fun for the students and helps them practice
the new words that they will be learning
about Christmas.

P1 Preparation
(T. Mike)
Phonics
In phonics this week we are going to
review the new blends we covered
last week (sk, lt). We are then going
to introduce the following end sounds:
nd, (band, hand, sand, bend, pond)
nt (ant, tent) and lk (silk, milk, elk).
We will use the reader booklets to
learn and explain the vocabulary then
we will play splat using words written
on the board and air write to practice.
We will then play a round of bingo
using the vocab from these 3 blends
and then go onto complete exercises
in the Pelangi 3 Phonics book, where
the students have to fill in missing
words, find patterns and write
sentences.

Activity Time
Sing Christmas songs: Jingle bells, We wish you a merry Christmas etc.
Making Christmas snowflakes to decorate the classroom.
Watch The Snowman short film and explain what we see.
Making Christmas cards, decorating, and writing them.
Making Christmas trees to hang in the classroom.
Play Christmas games inc. pass the parcel, charades etc.
Making Santa faces with balloons and cotton wool.
This week is going to be a short week because of the Christmas celebrations,
so we will use all the time available to continue to prepare our Christmas crafts
and decorate the classroom, as well as playing traditional Christmas games.
This should be a fun topic for the Children, but can also help them practice
speaking in full sentences, retaining vocabulary, and using their Five Senses to
describe what is going on around them!

New (letters/sounds/vocabulary)
Santa Claus, Christmas, present, stocking, bell, star, tree, card, ornament,
Christmas lights, reindeer (Rudolph et al), Merry Christmas, Happy New Year,
candy canes, angels, snow, snowflakes, snowman, days in a month (w. advent
calendar)

Maths
In Maths this week we are going to
review comparatives. The vocabulary
words we will focus on are:
longer/longest, shorter/shortest,
taller/tallest, heavier/heaviest,
lighter/lightest, larger/largest,
smaller/smallest, bigger/smaller. We will
use these words to make many
sentences to compare various objects,
people and numbers. We are going to
focus on reading, spelling and
pronouncing these words also, as they
will feature in the Prathom 1 entrance test
questions. We will do many
demonstrations using available objects,
students and numbers and play games
until the students understand each word.
