PLEASE KEEP AND EYE ON THE NEWSLETTER

Everywhere we turn we see Nativity scenes at this time of

the year. When God decided to send his Son to us, he clearly
wanted him to be born into a family - he wanted Jesus to have a
mother and a father like all of us. In many ways this was a very
ordinary family environment and yet they seemed to suffer hardship at the beginning of their time as a family unit. They struggled to find anywhere for Mary to safely give birth in Bethlehem
and they had to flee to Egypt to escape from Herod's threat. This
would make them refugees in our eyes - and the world still has
many, many displaced people today - especially in the same region of the middle east. Those of us who are lucky enough to
have had a good family upbringing should pray for those who are
displaced or exiled in the world; those whose only dream is to be
able to provide stability and a safe environment for their children
in order to give them a better future.
In Pope Francis' words, "God is present where man is in
danger, where man is suffering, where he is fleeing, where he
experiences rejection and abandonment; but God is also present
where man dreams, where he hopes to return in freedom to his
homeland and plans and chooses life for his family and dignity
for himself and his loved ones."

Synod on the Family 2015
There are some materials at the back of Church from the
Bishops Conference of England and Wales, to enable people
to take part in the time of reflection and consultation for the
Ordinary Synod of Bishops on Family Life in October 2015.
Bishop John has asked that this reflection paper be made
available in our parishes on todays feast of the Holy Family,
, and that families reflect on the points within their own
families. If you wish to send him your reflections, they will
then be a part of the Salford diocese response which will go
to the Bishops representing England and Wales at the Synod
in October. He did say that he cannot promise to reply to
every response sent into him! Please take a copy home with
you.
