The second episode,

Happy Are We: The Teachings
of Jesus, moved many of the
attending members with its
touching presentation of the
Beatitudes.
The second session of the
teaching series happened last
February 22, 2013. It showed
the 3rd and 4th episodes of
the series namely: That
Which Nothing Greater can be
Thought The Ineffable Mystery of God and Our Tainted
Natures Solitary BoastMary,
the Mother of God.
Bringing the viewers to
different wonderful places,
the third episode beautifully
explained the mystery of God
in His being one God in three

persons - a teaching man will

never understand because if
he does, God ceases to be
God.
The fourth episode on the
other hand, enabled the
viewers to fully understand
Mama Marys role in Gods
plan of salvation. It expounded on the churchs
dogmas on Marys Immaculate Conception and her
assumption and why we
revere her as mother of
God. It also brought the
viewers to two great Marian
shrines of Lourdes, France
and Guadalupe, Mexico.

Never a wasted time

for this wonderful teaching series on our faith.

BCBP Mactan Opens Office

A dream came true on the
evening of February 12, 2013
when the Chapter had its
new and spacious office
blessed by Fr. Marin Ilozue.
Located within the Indiana University belt, Kagudoy,
Basak, Lapulapu City, the
office came to being upon the
collaborative effort of Kuya
Leo Legara and Kuya Willy
Lozano who painstakingly
planned and designed the
office space. It is on a lease
term by the university owner
Mr. Toring.
The place will now
serve the many activities of
the community like workshops for speakers and sharers, unit teachings and fellow-

ships, meetings and seminars. The office has a rest

room, a work area and a
lavatory.
On the same evening,
William Cejas had a simulated praise and worship in
preparation for the February
chapter assembly.
The blessing also coincided with the birthday of
Ate Lourdes Baby Atoc
who came to bring her food
to share for the evening.
The fellowship completed
the evening activity with the
famous Cebu lechon for the
cholesterol lovers.
February 12, 2013 will be
another milestone for BCBP
Mactan.

BCBP Mactan Facilitates BCMR Review in Ormoc

The eleven man team that
conducted the BCMR review
in Ormoc on February 16,
was more than thrilled to
witness BCBP Ormoc chapter members reinvigorate
their marriage relationships.
The activity held at the
Ramona Hall at Pongos Hotel,
Ormoc City, separated the
men from the ladies. Talks on
Serving God through Christian Marriage, Role of Christian Husband/Wife, Communication in Marriage, and Sex
in Marriage were given separately to the men and the
ladies. After each talk, the
participants were given three

minutes to write their wish

list on the topic discussed
after which the speakers
exchanged places to read the
wish list to their spouses.
The very lively and animated participants had a
great time pouring their
hearts out as they wrote and
listened to the wish lists.
The sharing portion before the dinner fellowship
was both fun and revealing as
members spontaneously
stood to share.
Hearts swelled with joy as
tears were wiped away on
that very beautiful weekend.

Guidelines for Business Dealings Between

BCBP Members
Cholo Bernad - BCBP Cebu-South

As a general rule, BCBP members are advised not to enter into business relationships with one another. The community is created for the purpose of fostering the
spiritual growth of its members, not for business purposes. However, in the event
such business transactions are entered into, the guidelines are:
RIGHTEOUSNESS

Business Dealings must be conducted in a righteous, honest and just way.

Full disclosure of all material facts and the attendant risks associated with the
proposition.

Bro. Cholo

Full disclosure of any potential or present conflicts of interest

Submission of Periodic reports
Concomitant responsibility to ask questions, seek clarifications on things unclear.

Document all agreements,

Prudent use of speech.
THE DOs and DONTs

Always fully disclose the business proposition to an elder.

Seek the guidance of the elder BEFORE getting into business (acc. to the level
of competence; if not, seek proper advise).

Leaders must inhibit themselves from business dealings with members under
their care.

Document all agreements. Actions must be guided by what has been documented..

Spouses must disclose to each other all business dealings. A wife must secure
the husbands consent before entering into any business relationship.

Leaders must maintain neutrality and independence.

Parties must perform due diligence before entering into any transaction.
Maintain confidentiality.
SUMMARY

Each member must do his best to safeguard the interests of a fellow member,
esp. in the matter of helping the other grow in maturity and responsibility.

We all have to conduct ourselves in total fairness, faithfulness, honesty and

loyalty in our business dealings.

We have a duty to harness all of our talents and resources to grow our business so that they may be used to help others and bring glory to God.

If you are facing trouble right now dont ask, why me? Instead ask "what do you want me to
learn? Then trust God and keep on doing whats right. Dont give up, grow up.

The Vatican and Papacy

Fr. Martin Okafor-Ilozue CSSp - BCBP Mactan BCLP19

As the news now is about the pope, so that people will have a little background about the Vatican and papacy
The History of the Papacy, (WIKIPEDIA)
The office held by the pope as head of the Catholic Church, spans from the time of Saint Peter to
present day.
During the Early Church, the bishops of Rome enjoyed no temporal power until the time of Constantine. After the fall of Rome (the "Middle Ages"), the papacy was influenced by the temporal rulers of and
surrounding the Italian Peninsula; these periods are known as the Ostrogothic Papacy, Byzantine Papacy,
and Frankish Papacy. Over time, the papacy consolidated its territorial claims to a portion of the peninsula known as the Papal States. Thereafter, the role of neighboring sovereigns was replaced by powerful
Roman families during the saeculum obscurum, the Crescentii era, and the Tusculan Papacy.
From 1048 to 1257, the papacy experienced increasing conflict with the leaders and churches of the
Holy Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire. The latter culminated in the East-West Schism, dividing
the Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church. From 12571377, the pope, though the bishop of
Rome, resided in Viterbo, Orvieto, and Perugia, and then Avignon. The return of the popes to Rome after
the Avignon Papacy was followed by the Western Schism: the division of the western church between
two and, for a time, three competing papal claimants.
The Renaissance Papacy is known for its artistic and architectural patronage, forays into European
power politics, and theological challenges to papal authority. After the start of the Protestant Reformation, the Reformation Papacy and Baroque Papacy led the Catholic Church through the Counter Reformation. The popes during the Age of Revolution witnessed the largest expropriation of wealth in the
church's history, during the French Revolution and those that followed throughout Europe. The Roman
Question, arising from Italian unification, resulted in the loss of the Papal States and the creation of Vatican City.
The long pontificate of John Paul is credited with re-creating a sense of stability and even identity to
the Catholic Church after years of questioning and searching. His teaching was firm and unwavering on
issues which seemed to be in doubt under his predecessor including the ordination of women, liberation
theology and priestly celibacy. He virtually stopped the liberal laicization of problem priests policy of Pope
Paul VI, which inadvertently may have contributed to problems in the USA. His authoritative style was
reminiscent of Pope Pius XII, whose teaching he repeated in his own words, such as the identity of the
Catholic Church with the Body of Christ and his condemnations of capitalism "viruses": secularism, indifferentism, hedonistic consumerism, practical materialism, and also formal atheism.
As always after a long pontificate, a new page was opened in the history of the Church with the election of a new pope. Pope Benedict XVI was elected in 2005. In his inaugural homily, the new Pontiff explained his view of a relation with Christ:
Are we not perhaps all afraid in some way? If we let Christ enter fully into our lives, if we open ourselves totally
to Him, are we not afraid that He might take something away from us?... No! If we let Christ into our lives, we
lose nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing of what makes life free, beautiful and great. No! Only in this friendship
do we experience beauty and liberation....When we give ourselves to Him, we receive a hundredfold in return.
Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ and you will find true life.[54]
On February 11, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI announced that he would tender his resignation on February 28, 2013, less than three weeks later.
Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving better or happier. Be
the expression of Gods kindness and love.

Cebu Region Hosts National PSD Workshop

One of the sessions

The fellowship night

On the evening of
February 1, 2013, National President Manny
Jimenez welcomed the
Programs and Services
Directors from all over
the country as they gathered for the National
PSD Workshop held at
the Ecotech Center,
Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu
City .
Joining them were the
Chapter Heads, Regional
Council Directors and
some Area Managing
Directors.
Speakers
for
the
weekend
workshop
were:
Fr. Herb

Schneider, Manny Jimenez,

Manolet Siojo, Roy Calleja
and Luoie Morales.
A very interesting part
of the workshop was
when Fr. Herb asked the
participants to write the
Job Description of an
Action Group Leader.
The wholesome fellowship on Saturday evening
showcased
the singing
talents of the different
chapters.
The workshop ended
with a Holy Mass on Sunday before the delegates
went home to their respective destinations.

I Do Not Need Sacrifice but Mercy.

Nery Gula

Sitting one morning

at the receiving area
of the Lapulapu City
Hall of Justice gave me
a glimpse of the life
that revolve around
the place.
I was moved with
pity at the sight of an
elderly man, bent by
age, handcuffed, and
wearing a T-shirt with
big bold letters
Detainee on its
back. He was there
for a hearing of his
case. Deep in my
heart I asked, why?

Minutes later, three

women were brought in
by police escorts. This
time I voiced out my
question to one of
those sitting with me.
He told me: Most of
them Maam, are drug
related cases.
As if it were not
enough, a detainee on a
wheel chair was among
eight men escorted for
their hearing.
The scene that unfolded before my eyes
that morning made me
very sad. More so, when

the man I talked to

lamented on the justice system of our
country.
And then I remembered the scripture
verse which says: I do
not need sacrifice but
mercy.
Brothers and sisters, let us pray for
justice and peace in
our country. Better
still, let us offer our
sacrifices during this
season of Lent for this
intention.

A life well lived is simply a compilation of days well spent. Make each day a journey of love and
kindness to everyone.
