Time: 3 Hours

Maximum marks: 100

1) (a) Measure the wind tunnel given using the instruments provided and draft the side view,
front view and rear view of the wind tunnel provided with the dimensions measured?
(b) Explain briefly about a typical Propeller Aircraft?

100

2) (a) Draft a front and top views of single riveted lap joints of two plates of length 160 mm with
a margin of 20 mm. There are three rivets along the joint with rivet head of diameter 15
mm. Pitch distance is 50 mm. The breadth of both the plates is 160 mm.
(b) Write about Aircraft Fuselage and its different types?

100

3) (a) Draft a portion of a tapered circular fuselage for a small airplane. Diameter at the start of
the fuselage is 750 mm and at the end is 500 mm. The length of the fuselage is 3750 mm.
There are 16 stringers equally spaced along the circular cross section.
(b) Explain about the various control system used in the aircraft?

100

4) (a) Measure the propeller aircraft given using the instruments provided and draft the front
view and top view of the aircraft provided with the dimensions measured?
(b) Explain briefly about a low speed subsonic wind tunnel?

100

5) (a) Draft an aircraft tyre for two configurations:

(i) Nose wheel (one): 470 (outer diameter) x 160 (width) 225 (Rim),
(ii) Four wheel configuration: 500 x 112.5 300? (All dimensions are in mm)?
(b) Explain about various types of welded joints used with neat sketches?

100

6) (a) Draft a portion of 3 stringers single cell wing. The chord length at root is 2250 mm and at
tip is 750 mm. Assume the airfoil shape. The length of wing is 3750 mm. Draw the y axis at
33% of chord length for both root airfoil and the tip airfoil and one stringer is placed there.
The other two stringers are at 3.33% and 10% of the chord length. There is no sweep back
angle.
(b) Write about Aircraft tyres?

100

7) (a) Draft a isometric view of Boeing Passenger Aircraft and mark its controls and stabilizers?
(b) Write about different classification of Aircraft wing used?

100

8) (a) Draft a front and top view of double fillet lap welded joints of two plates of length and
breadth 160 mm. Fillets are of size 15 mm?
(b) Explain about the various landing gears used in the aircraft?

100

9) (a) Design a triple riveted lap joint for joining two plates of 9 mm thick. The allowable
stresses are 80 N/mm2 in tension 60 N/mm2 in shearing and 100 N/mm2 in crushing.
Determine the efficiency of the joint. Also draw the top view and sectional front view of the
given triple riveted lap joint with chain riveting. Indicate all the dimensions. Use snap head
for rivets.
(b) Draw the layout of typical aircraft stressed wing structure using AutoCAD.

10) (a) Design a double riveted lap joint for joining two plates of 15 mm thick. The allowable
stresses are 100 N/mm2 in tension 80 N/mm2 in shearing and 140 N/mm2 in crushing.
Determine the efficiency of the joint. Also draw the top view and sectional front view of the
given triple riveted lap joint with Zig - Zag riveting. Indicate all the dimensions. Use snap
head for rivets.
(b) Draw the layout of typical light aircraft wing structure using AutoCAD.
