SUMMATIVE APPRAISAL

Jordan has been a teacher in the Math department in the Middle School for the 2013-2014 school year. His primary responsibility includes
teaching grade 6 Math, grade 7 Pre-Algebra and is also an advisory teacher in the 6th grade. Jordan has also participated in a number of cocurricular activities including trip chaperone on Week Without Walls to Greece and coaching in the ASD Wrestling program. Jordan also
graduated this year from the ASD supported SUNY Buffalo State University Masters program.
APPRAISAL RELATED TO THE TEACHERS INDIVIDUAL PROFESSIONAL GOAL:
Jordan identified the following individual professional goal for the 2013-2014 school year: to establish a balance when working to manage new
school initiatives
Evidence of working toward the achievement of this goal includes
Over the course of the year this goal changed slightly to developing a deeper understanding and confidence in practice when working in
new systems
Jordan acknowledges the value of being challenged and using the experience to better understand his own capacities and needs for
growth
Next steps in relation to this goal include
Focus on the roles and responsibilities of teacher leadership, seeking professional conversations/dialogue with peers and school leaders
as resources for developing capacity as a leader
APPRAISAL RELATED TO THE FRAMEWORK FOR TEACHING DOMAIN 1: PLANNING AND PREPARATION
During the 2013-2014 school year, in the Framework for Teaching Domain 1: Planning and Preparation, faculty in the Middle School focused
primarily on the implementation of standards-based grading and reporting. This included planning for standards-based assessments and learning
a new system for communicating daily grades to students in the online grade book, and using a new standards-based report card model.
Strengths in relation to this domain include
Jordan is extremely successful at both long term and short term planning, maintaining comprehensive planning documents and using
assessment data to adjust teaching and learning experiences for students
Jordan knows his students well and keeps comprehensive data on their progress and performance
Next steps in relation to this goal include
Continued work in leading the organizing departmental standards that promote effective assessment and feedback processes
APPRAISAL RELATED TO THE FRAMEWORK FOR TEACHING DOMAIN 2: CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT
During the 2013-2014 school year, in the Framework for Teaching Domain 2: Classroom Environment, faculty in the Middle School developed
cultures of learning through the development of high standards of performance. This included helping students to understand new levels of
achievement, and implementing a new grading policy that implements assessment re-takes, holding students to a higher level of performance

and accountability.
Strengths in relation to this domain include
Jordan engages individual students in informal conferences continuously to provide them feedback on their learning making them feel
supported in the classroom
Jordan communicates clear and consistent expectations for behavior in the classroom which leads to high student engagement
Next steps in relation to this goal include
Getting back to developing classroom procedures that promote an environment of respect among students such as reward systems
APPRAISAL RELATED TO THE FRAMEWORK FOR TEACHING DOMAIN 3: INSTRUCTION
During the 2013-2014 school year, in the Framework for Teaching Domain 3: Instruction, faculty in the Middle School developed standardsbased assessments that clearly articulated regular and detailed feedback of students performance. This included the alignment of department
standards to a variety of assessment types and using data to guide instructional outcomes and individualize learning for students.
Strengths in relation to this domain include
Jordan is adept at meeting the needs of individual learners, supporting the range of ability in his classroom through differentiated
assessment techniques
Jordan uses different levels of questioning techniques in the classroom to get at deeper understanding
Next steps in relation to this goal include
Focus on ways of modeling instructional leadership within the department, develop department goals around common practices
